Chapter 98

With a heavy sigh, I give in to the commander's request. "Fine," I say pointedly. I allow myself to be taken over one of the multiple cars that are lined up. The rest of the group, who have all been silent with grief throughout this entire time, follow me and a group of soldiers file us into the car. Evan sits next to me and allows me to have the window seat. I'm grateful he does. He wraps an arm around my shoulders and pulls me to him, laying my head on his chest. No words come out past his lips. To me it's more comforting than all the words someone could say.

Once everyone is in the car, the engine starts. And as the soldier slams the door, I'm forced to say goodbye to the pack I've made my home in the brief time since I was found. The pack that I was finally happy in after all that time. I don't think I'll ever see it again. Just as I thought my life was done changing, it happened again, and the Destroyers will pay for it. One way or another.
