Chapter one

The weather of the Jinlong empire had been becoming worse with each passing day as the amount of rain increased which made the people worry about their crops and homes being destroyed by the imminent flood.

There haven't been people outside for a few weeks except for the servants and the beggars wandering under the gloomy weather.

Even the northern region of Jinlong was also facing the problems of weather where temperatures were decreasing drastically and there were snow storms every day for a few hours.

There weren't many people residing in the northern part of the Jinlong empire as it was always under threat of incoming wars from the two neighbouring empires and also the conditions in the north made it hard for people to cultivate crops.

So most of the people residing here were either the soldiers and generals families and few businessmen. It was dull and lifeless with fewer events and gatherings due to the cold weather and limited resources up here.

"Eldest Miss, you should probably come inside as it will be snowing soon." Yilin stood behind her miss who was currently standing and looking up at the cloudy sky. She slowly rubbed her cold hands together and it started to feel numb.

Yilin had been following her miss for her daily morning walks and today the temperature was very cold compared to other days.

She slowly brought her numb hands towards her mouth and blew warm air. Her hands had started to turn purple and shivered. There was a small drop of snow on her hands and then she looked at her miss.

"Let's go inside now. Or grandfather might get worried if he didn't see me in my room." Yilin breathed in relief inside her heart and smiled at her miss who looked at her emotionless.

Her miss used to hate getting up early and liked to play pranks on the lowly servants and make fun.

Yilin remembered how scared she was upon the realization that her Miss wasn't able to recognize any after getting her head hit on the stone from slipping. It was serious even that the maid who was responsible for looking after that day was punished and kicked out of the manor.

After she woke up and for a few days, her miss wasn't willing to let anyone come inside her room and locked everyone out. It grew alarming when she would even send out the untouched food for the past two days that even the great General had to brag into her room and try to make her come out.

The physician said that she hit her head hard on the stone and lost her memories whereby she wouldn't be able to recognize anyone but thankfully, she would eventually recover as time passed by. Truth to his words, her miss came to regain her memories but she changed completely and Yilin couldn't pinpoint exactly.

Is it her behaviour or the way she styles her appearance?

She didn't behave like their old miss but she turned mature and showed fewer emotions overnight.

Yilin looked at the back of her miss and strangely, she felt sad as her miss looked lonely.

She guessed as no one from the Han family loved her except the great general who pampered and raised her since childhood. She doesn't even have any friends as the great general never lets her go out to hang out with other young misses of the generals.

"Miss, I will go and fetch warm water for the tea." As soon as they reached Miss' room, Yilin went out as her miss nodded at her.

As soon as the door was closed, Xinyi stood in the middle of her room for a while in a daze and then walked towards the chair and sat down looking bored.

After she woke up from her car accident, she found out she had transmigrated to the ancient period. At first, she thought she was in hell and almost went crazy due to an absurd event but as time passed by, it became more believing and came to the fact that she had transmigrated into the body of a fourteen-year-old girl.

Xinyi after getting the memories of the previous owner who slipped her feet and hit her head while trying to catch the snowflakes. The previous owner sadly died right after the trauma and she was replaced by the modern Xinyi.

Xinyi looked around her new room which looked dull with some brightly lit candles and tried to find something to relieve her boredom.

After coming to the fact that she couldn't go back, she started to open up with everyone here from the memories and make friends which was nonexistent as her grandfather was strict with her.

She could have requested her grandfather or even taken dozens of guards with her as per his order but the weather wasn't willing to be on her side.

Even though she woke up during this period for a month, there was a sharp decrease in temperature and snow storms every few hours. Without any acquaintances here, being invited to the rare and small gatherings was also impossible.

Xinyi opened the book on the erhu and other classical music which Yilin had borrowed from the old and only library shop in the province where she lives.

In her previous life, she used to play piano, violin and cello. Her adoptive parents were obsessed with her and raised her as their trophy daughter. After learning that she was able to play the violin after one year of learning and astonishingly at the mere age of seven. They put her in the piano and cello lessons.

To make them happy, she would do anything they said but when she reached the age of 24, she was tired of everything. The music room her adoptive mom built specifically to her taste became suffocating and mentally drained her.

Xinyi felt this was a blessing in disguise as she felt a bit relaxed getting away from the perfect lifestyle her parents wanted for the world whereby everything here was a breath of fresh air for her.

The music she loved at the beginning slowly made her hate it. Most of the people and things she came to love made her feel like they were choking her which made her unable to breathe properly and there wasn't even a point that she didn't think of running away every time she walked into the room for practice or when she touched the string of the violin.

But when she came here, Xinyi wanted to get away from anything that was related to music but she knew that music was something that also comforted her and was deeply embedded in her soul and heart.

After requesting Yilin to bring her the books about music which garnered a confused look from her maid. Nevertheless, Yilin was good with her duties as she bought two dozen books about music. Since that day, she has read about everything and one day she started to fall in love with one instrument.

Erhu, a two-string bow instrument could play beautiful melodies like that of the violin. It was a complimentary violin for ancient China.

Xinyi hadn't learned how to use classical Chinese music instruments in her previous life so this sort of gave her some excitement. A feeling when she was able to learn how to play the violin from a girl who came to volunteer at the orphanage.

She was so deeply engrossed in reading that she didn't notice an old man coming in with her maid Yilin in tow.
