PROLOGUE

°° He let out a shaky breath, brushing his hair back a bit as he stared warily at the door...
The room was awfully quiet except the constant tapping that was coming from the door...
It was eerie...
Rhythmic in a way...
Coming seconds after seconds....
Like the tail of a rattle snake sending a warning to any innocent soul on standby...
It was familiar, yet scary and unexpected...
Because it was a first for him, for them...
They had only ever heard of it, never seen one or even killed one...it had to be one of the two...THE ALPHA...
or THE DELTA...
They couldn't move, couldn't talk, heck even to breath was now seeming like the most riskiest thing to do...
A quick scan of the room was enough to land his eyes at a safe option for him and the others, the closet...it could fit them all no doubts, but it was gonna be all cramped up with little to know breathing space..
A snap of his finger and a pointer finger to the said closet was enough to send the message to the other five in the room..and within the blink of an eye, they were all mushed up in the closet...
As if on cue, the door suddenly got busted open, sending chills down their spine as the creature trudged pass the closet.
It was a DELTA....
The second strongest after the ALPHA, this was a first for them considering the fact that they had never encountered such, it had just always been few JUVENILES and more CRUSHERS and PHIS. They didn't need a soothsayer telling them what they needed to do at the point because immediately, they held their breaths.
Finally all those months of endless breathing training and tests could pay off...
It was working....
One of them had caught a glimpse of the creatures empty sockets and noseless face as it trashed, stumbled and mindlessly broke and stepped on any thing in it's way. The putrid smell of the saliva dripping from it's mouth wafting through the air, finding it's way into their nostrils even though they had restricted their air flow....
Nerve wrecking right?....
It was either hold your breath for as long as you can and die in the process or breath freely and die in the most gruesome way possible...in the hands of the UNDEAD.
The DELTAs had no eyes to see or nose to smell...and since they had their ears intact, it had always been their biggest, most valuable and treasured asset...it was so sensitive, it could pick up a sound as tiny as a pin dropped on the floor...so breathing was like a piece of cake for them.
Everything was going fine for them, as long as the creature didn't discover it actually had company with it...
But good things they say...never last for long.
All it just took was for the creature to turn 180° on an axis and come face to face with the closet, it's empty sockets burning a hole into it as it let out a loud hiss...
It crouched down on all fours, arching it's back up for a while before bringing it back down and regurgitated a large amount of a gooey substance, it's reddish brown colour not going unnoticed by the ones cramped in the closet, if anyone were to walk in on it, it'll remind one of mashed potatoes with blood that had been left uncovered for days...
They were totally doomed... because it could only mean one thing...
The creature was ready for another meal...
It wasn't mashed potato and blood it just regurgitated, but undigested raw flesh...
Their favourite meal..all it just takes them was to pierce their fangs into the skin, enough to be able to peel off the flesh and within a blink of an eye, it pulls it head back taking a generous amount of raw scrumptious human flesh with it.. chewing like it's life depended on the whole thing... sometimes it could use it's scrawny fingers to peel off the flesh, dragging and pulling and scratching and tearing, with blood dripping and the screams echoing.
Sometimes it felt like the things had a mind of their own whenever they won't hurt a human, no scratch...all they do is just drag the innocent being away to be faced with a more worse fate....
The ALPHA'S meal....
The creature had forced the closet open, lucky enough to grab one of the boys by the throat while the others had found their way out immediately, they didn't know it already had their friend until they turned back...
Oh how they regretted doing that as they watched the creature eat his face off, pieces of flesh and meat dangling from the boy's skull, there wasn't even any sight of blood...just a body and a fleshless head..
The creature dropped the lifeless body to the ground and immediately dived in for more...
They didn't have the time to mourn or dwell in dread or pity, they had to move, get out of the school that was like a sanctuary for them but was now a danger zone...what was stopping more DELTAS from making an appearance..or even worse an ALPHA...
So without further ado...they all jumped out of the window one by one while the creature was preoccupied with it's meal...
" Nicho!!... "
The oldest whispered, he was still perched on the window when he noticed one of them had stayed behind...it was a risky thing to whisper, but seeing as the creature was pretty distracted, it wasn't paying attention to any other thing than it's meal, that was now almost an entity of bones and organs.
" Just go!!... "
Nicho whispered back, eyes never leaving the disturbing scene...he had reason to keep on going, afterall his only source of happiness, his life, his oxygen, his everything was now reduced to nothing but bones.
The other was still perched on the window, pleading the boy with his eyes, but after he had yelled another go, he knew there was no point in waiting again, so with one last solemn look at the boy, he jumped down retracing the steps of the others.
He could never forget how the creature had raised it head up, empty sockets meeting the boy's broken ones as it swallowed a huge chunk of flesh.....
And just like that, the last six survivors since the school's attack had been reduced to only four...
