“Eike. Is this normal?” Rain asked. She’s been anxious ever since the pack went out to help the humans. That Mother had to knock her down for a while as she kept on pacing and uttering incoherent things. No. Mother did not knock her down by force like me. It was all-natural.
Theta. That’s what my Mother is. The healer of the pack. The knowledge of all when it comes to natural medication. It might come as a surprise to everyone but I was a miracle pup. Alpha's knots are expected to only work on the supposed Female Alpha of the pack. But things between Papa and Mama were different.
A curse.
Based on my grandfather and his great pack—not really. But now that they’re gone, kind of. Their words of pain won’t drag us down the vain anymore. Besides, everyone in the pack loves the fact that our pack is different from the other packs.
We’re special.
“No,” I uttered inscrutable. It was the truth. Today is one of those days where the things we’re used to, will get wrecked by sudden havoc, causing everything to be distorted. “Usually, things are done even before the ten or twenty minutes mark. Depending on the number of wild animals they need to sue for everyone’s peace,” I continued. Explaining how things are in a different situation. A situation that requires nothing but loudness and threat.
Unlike today. It requires everything.
Strength.
Loyalty.
Life and Blood.
“I see. This might be thrilling for you then,” she expressed. I simply hummed as a response. Not wanting any further information to be spilled out in the open air. In addition, her existence even before we arrived here is somehow burdensome for me.
If she craves my attention. Then I crave for her ass. Not in a sexual way. I just want to badly kick it because she’s annoying as fuck at some point.
“Meadow,” Mama called from the kitchen. She’s been preparing tonics and some other stuff that she’ll need before the pack arrives. For her to easily treat them without causing delay and danger to the others. It’s not that we wanted them to get hurt. It was just an automatic response after seeing how things are in the past.
Standing up to meet her call. I replied, “Yes, Mama?”
“Help me brew,” she uttered as if she was in a hurry. Is the pack on their way? With her command being given. I bid my excuses to Rain before entering the kitchen. It was surprisingly messy. Something is up and it may or may not be a good thing.
“What should I do?” I pop in. With no proper explanation, she responded by pointing at the boiling herbs that she’d prepared. Despite not knowing what to do. I followed my instincts and slowly mixed it up.
It was all silence. Not until Rain decided to barge in the kitchen like an annoying cat asking, “Can I help with something? ”
The mother turned to her and said, “Yes, Hija. Stay guard on the door and wait for the signal,” Rain then nodded. Like a puppy following commands. She went back to the dining room and kept her eyes on the front door as told silently.
And when I was about to get back to brewing, my surroundings changed. It was as if I’d teleported in an iron factory.
“Marfori, look out!” Alejandro—the lead warrior of our pack shouted. Upon hearing Alejandro’s call my Father jumped. Luckily avoiding Cassius raging Eta’s who was ordered to go after him. Whimpers were heard as Cassius Eta fell on the ground colliding against one another.
Due to the sudden movement he had made, Father grunts as he wavers on regaining his posture back. Knowing that things would’ve ended if he’s in his form, he turned to Alejandro. Asking Alejandro about the humans’ whereabouts through his mind, receiving the Alpha’s message, Alejandro shortly turned to where the humans are before giving his attention back to the still trembling Eta’s of Cassius.
Now, knowing the humans’ whereabouts. Father turned. And unlike before, where everything was shown as if I was a bystander. It changed. It was as if my soul had been transported inside Father’s, as I began to see what he was seeing as if I was him.
Unstable.
The humans were breathing heavily and shaky, as the Gamma’s attended to their unconscious bodies. Protecting them from being attacked and ripped into pieces by Cassius’ pack.
Seeing the state of the humans, Father decided that it was an opportunity to end things for once.
And when I thought that it was just his view that I had taken. The moment he’d changed his form, slowly, the pain he was feeling also creeped in inside me. It was painful that I couldn’t help but gasp and wince as if I was indeed changing in an Alpha form.
“Are you alright?” I heard my Mother’s voice from behind, she might’ve noticed my struggles. I opened my eyes, thinking that things might’ve turned back to normal, but I was wrong. I did hear Mother but my eyes—it was still Father’s, as everything I’m seeing is now much clearer and sharper. I’m still at the battlefield surging and tackling each member of Cassius until they are weak—it was Father. The one who’s doing all the actions.
You can only see his world, he’s not you, Meadow. Come to your senses!
Ambush.
Whimpers.
And Howls.
Tackling another member of Cassius’ pack, Father snarled, finally sensing Cassius nearby. And he was indeed right, the moment he looked up after torturing the scout, Cassius stood there in his mighty form. Snarling and Howling like crazy, waiting for Father to make his way through him.
Without any doubt in his mind, Father run. Denying everyone that tries to stop him from getting into Cassius. Whimpers. Howls. And for one last step, he jumped.
Swirling into the air, ready to tackle Cassius the moment he lands on him. He was near his smug-looking face when suddenly, “Meadow!” Mother screamed. Turning my surroundings and view back to how it was before—kitchen, books, and herbs.
“Mother…” I weakly uttered. Whatever that is that had happened to me might’ve taken lots of my energy. I can’t feel my legs, they’re wobbly.
Sensing the weakness in my voice, Mother looked at me. Her eyes showed nothing but worries, “Meadow, what had happened—” and even before she could finish her sentence, my world turned black.
