chapter 19

Eliana reluctantly gathered her belongings, her heart heavy with apprehension. She and Damon were leaving behind the familiarity of their lives, embarking on a journey to a new destination seventy-two hours away. The carriage was eerily silent, the only sound the creaking of wheels and horses' hooves.

The first day passed in uncomfortable silence. Eliana's anxiety grew with each passing mile. On the second day, she began to feel a sense of security, but her relief was short-lived. As she gazed out the window, her vision blurred, and she fainted.

The carriage master's urgent voice pierced the air. "Eliana! Eliana!" Damon's concern was palpable as they quickly pulled over to find shelter for the night. A physician was summoned, and Eliana received treatment. Twenty-four hours later, she finally awoke, her body weak but her spirit determined

When Eliana finally awoke, a kind-faced woman offered her water. "How long have I been sleeping?" Eliana asked, her voice weak.

"You've been out for twenty-four hours," the woman replied.

Eliana looked down, embarrassed. "I don't leave the palace often. I'm not used to walking around or traveling long distances."

As they settled into the estate, a sumptuous feast was laid before them. The table groaned under the weight of delectable dishes, and the aroma of roasted meats and fresh herbs filled the air. Eliana's eyes widened as she took in the spread, her stomach growling with hunger.

They ate in silence, the only sound the clinking of utensils against plates. Eliana savored each bite, her taste buds dancing with delight. Despite the tension between them, the food seemed to bring a temporary truce, and they devoured the meal with relish.

As they finished, Damon pushed his plate away, his eyes fixed on Eliana. "You need to build up your strength," he said gruffly. "We have a long way to go."

Eliana nodded, her mouth still full. She swallowed, her eyes locked on his. "I'm sorry again for the delay," she said softly.
