giwal part 2

It takes hours before Eugene stops shaking enough for Glenn to be able to move out from under the truck. The Alpha makes a short trip to check on the herd before returning to see how the others were fairing. Tara was making herself busy by dividing up the last of the water in the truck's tanks for them to drink, sliding Eugene's portion in a bowl under the truck. The group sighs in relief when they hear him lapping at it. Rosita was keeping watch over Abraham while Maggie was at the tree line, bent down.

"

Hey, you ok?" Glenn kneels next to his Mate and hands her a bottle of water.

"Thank you." Maggie smiles and takes a sip, "And I'm fine. The smell and the heat must have gotten to me, I guess."

"Don't push yourself, ok?" Glenn kisses her on the head and helps her up before moving to speak with Tara. "How's he doing?"

"He's still in wolf form." Tara sighs from where she was laying down to watch Eugene. "But he's eating, drinking, and he's got shade under the truck so..."

"Should we pull him out and take him the Church?" Rosita asks.

"No, doing that will only frighten him more." Maggie shakes her head, "That could cause more damage; he could go Feral. We need to wait for him to come to us."

"Feral?" Rosita looks confused.

"Alphas and Omegas can go Feral, resort back to their basic wolf instincts and forget they were ever human. They'd just try to survive anyway they could." Tara says, "I saw it happen before, right out of training. One of the female Alphas was found out while undercover on a drug cartel and they held her for six weeks before we could find her. They'd beaten her, raped her.... She was missing fingers when they pulled her from a warehouse. She was in a coma for another three or four months and when she woke up she shifted and attacked the nurse. They spent months trying to rehabilitate her, but they ended up sending her to a wildlife reserve in Texas that specialized in Ferals."

"I thought you were still in police training when everything went to hell?"

"I did a tour with the Army before that. My dad got sick and I asked to be discharged to take care of him." Tara shrugs. Rosita nods and looks to Abraham, taking his water bottle and walking over to where he was still kneeling in the road.

"You haven't had anything to drink all day. Take. The. Bottle." The Beta growls when Abraham ignores her. She grabs his hand and shoves the water in his fist. "Seriously? My six year old nephew didn't even pull this shit."

Abraham throws the bottle away from him, growling at the Beta. He stands up baring his teeth at her, but turns his head to the others when he hears a gun cock. Glenn and Maggie had their guns pointed at the Alpha's head while Tara was pulling Rosita away from him.

"Sit down or I'll put you down." Maggie glares. Abraham sits back down, head bowed.

"What do we do now?" Tara asks Glenn.

"We need more water."

"There's a creek up the road, a few miles southwest of here." Rosita grabs her gun and slings it over her shoulder.

"I'll stay and keep watch, you guys go." Tara waves them off.

"You sure?"

"I got this bitch." Abraham growls and Tara growls back. Glenn chuckles and heads for the trees, Maggie and Rosita following him. They reach the tree line and hear a whine, turning back to see Eugene's wolf crawling out from under the truck. Abraham sucks in air through his teeth at the wolf with dried blood in its fur.

"Eugene?" The Omega's ears drop at the sound of his Prime voice and he crawls as fast as his shaking form can over to Glenn, hiding behind his feet. Abraham whines, tears in his eyes, while he watches his Pack hide from him. Just like Ellen did. Like AJ and Becca.

"We got him!" Glenn calls to Tara, one hand petting Eugene's ear. The walk to the river was quiet, Eugene staying close under their feet. After a mile or so Maggie and Glenn hand Rosita their guns and shift forms, the Beta climbing onto the female Alpha's back. Eugene perks up at seeing Glenn's wolf and moves a little faster. Glenn shifts back and forth multiple times while having Rosita talk about their trip from Texas. Once they get to the river, Glenn uses his water bottle to scoop up some water, a muddy tan color.

"Perfect." He sighs, "We can't drink this, we'll get sick and that's the last thing we need."

"Here." Rosita takes a rag from her pocket and holds out her hand for the water bottle. She puts small rocks and pebbles from the creek bed at the bottom of the bottle and then the rag on top of that. While she was poking a hole in the lid with her knife, Eugene had come back with a pale and had set it beside Glenn before stepping into the river with Maggie so she could clean his fur. Halfway through his bath he had jumped into the deeper part of the river and came back with a backpack full of water that was wriggling. Rosita laughs when he puts it in her lap and shakes, but she takes the fish from the bag and puts them in a dry bag to let them die.

"When will he change back?" She asks, petting the brown fur on his back.

"When he feels safe." Glenn sighs. "He'll change back when he feels like he's in a safe place with people he trust."

"How do you know?"

"Before all this..." Glenn bites his lip. Maggie takes his hand, rubbing her thumb over his knuckles in comfort. The male clears his throat, "Before all this I was a part of a Traditional Pack that was mostly Betas. The Few Alphas that were there were controlling and abusive, and the Omegas... they were typical Traditional Omegas. I was a late bloomer, so I didn't present until I was maybe sixteen? Normally we present by the time we're twelve just so we have time to adjust before we go through puberty. My family thought I was going to be a Beta so I'd already learned to act like one by the time I became an Alpha. I didn't know what to do, and when I didn't act like the other Alphas they started to treat me like a Gamma. So I spent a lot of time in my wolf form, hiding. Soiling myself and submitting for everyone because I didn't fit in anywhere. I stayed like that until my siblings started to present, some of them were Omegas. I was their big brother and an Alpha. I tried to protect them, so whenever I thought I'd been a wolf for to long, I'd go to them. We play games, take a nap, go running, anything to make me feel like I was protecting them, cause that's where I was happiest. Eugene will be fine. He'll come around, don't worry."

They pack up their stuff and head back to the fire truck. Tara was kneeling next to Abraham, finally getting him to drink something when they past the tree line. They breathe a sigh of relief when Eugene doesn't immediately tuck tail and hide, though he does stop at a certain distance and refuse to move closer. Glenn bends down and pulls the wolf into his arms, causing the Omega to yelp. He releases a calming scent as he walks over to Abe, growling when the Alpha gets to his feet to quickly. Glenn stops in front of the other Alpha and looks at Tara.

"I told him a little about what Eugene would have gone through in the Before so he's a little more understanding about why he did what he did. Even if he is still hurt and pissed." The female Alpha backs up some.

Abraham reaches forward with one hand and pets Eugene's ear gently, causing the Omega to look up. The Alpha clears his throat. "I'm sorry. I let my anger get the best of me and that wasn't fair to you."

"What are we going to do now?" Rosita sits on the truck, "DC is a bust and we don't have anywhere else to go."

"We go back to the Church." Glenn sets Eugene down with Abraham still petting him to keep him calm. "We have the room to stay there for now"

Tara shrugs, "It'll only be a three day drive."

The others agree and they all pile into the truck, turning around. Glenn checks the map and marks where the herd is, then has Abraham stop at each store so they know which places to come back to on runs if they ever need to come out this far. The drive back was quiet; Eugene finally falls asleep a day out from exhaustion, his head resting on Rosita's lap. They didn't see many Walkers on the way back and breathe a sigh of relief. Glenn takes over for Abraham once it starts getting late and they pull up to a house that was surrounded by farmland. They clear the house, making sure there were no Walkers inside. Glenn and Maggie make camp in the living room while Rosita and Tara make food, and Abraham watches the door. Eugene stays in his wolf form, staying quiet and out of the way so he does not anger anyone, unsure of his place in the Packs after what happened. They stay in the house for two days while they heal and rest from the heat, searching the farmland and surrounding houses for anything they could take with them.

They leave on the third morning with the farmer's truck and horse trailer loaded down with plants, food, and things to make the church feel more at home, including baby stuff for judith and Ajax....

mean while

Before Beth prison-shanks Dawn with her scissors, she whispers ominously, "I get it now." What did she "get"? Seems it's simply that Dawn isn't interested in doing something "important" at Grady. She just wants to stay in charge. By demanding Noah's return, she proves she's still the alpha, and that, as she told Beth, "They always come back" one way or another. So Beth does what the wussbag security crew couldn't.

Dawn shots beth, it look like the cop had killed her so the favor is immediately returned by an Alpha , even as Dawn says, in slow motion, "I didn't mean it." The Grady cops call a truce, saying the whole showdown was Dawn's deal, not theirs. as they walk out they see mickey and the others just in time for mickey to see Daryl emerge with his sister's limp body in his arms. Maggie unleashes eight months' worth of pent-up anguish at the sight.

Maggie hug her sister taking in the damage once she seen the wound she said the omega would be fine..
