Chapter 10: Shooting Oneself in the Foot

Sheng Jiao hid the triumph in her eyes, her crying sounded genuine, but as she turned her head, her expression froze, somewhat dumbfounded.

Why is it Aya?

Where is Mu Jingyan?

As Sheng Jiao stared at Aya in confusion, Aya also froze.

She clearly hadn't expected to walk into such a scene.

"What happened?" Aya hurried over.

Even though Aya's arrival was unexpected, since Aya was Mu Jingyan's secretary, her seeing this and reporting back to Mu Jingyan was just the same.

Thinking this, Sheng Jiao was about to continue her act but suddenly felt a pain below her and looked down to find herself sitting amidst a pile of shattered pieces.

Originally she needed to act, but now she truly started crying instantly.

The pain was real; if only she had looked back, she would never have sat down like this had she known Aya was coming!

Standing at a distance, Tong Tong was spotlessly clean, clearly unaffected by the shards, and seeing her astonished face, Sheng Jiao felt even angrier inside.

Aya helped Sheng Jiao up, and there were traces of cuts from the shards on her legs and arms, looking rather frightening.

Aya: "Miss Sheng Jiao, what did you just say? Who is trying to murder you?"

This time, Sheng Jiao was truly angry, glaring fiercely at Tong Tong.

"It was her!"

"She deliberately broke this vase and then pushed me over, wanting to kill me. Sister Aya, you must tell Brother Jingyan about this; such a malicious-minded person can't stay in our house!"

Aya looked at Tong Tong, who was standing far away, and then at the continually shouting Sheng Jiao, falling silent for a moment.

To be honest, considering the distance between the two women, the claim that Tong Tong intentionally harmed someone was quite unbelievable.

Tong Tong stood there speechless - what was this, highly sophisticated schemes using the simplest methods?

Such petty tricks, even Tong Xiaoxiao wouldn't use them after junior high.

Tong Tong couldn't help but speak out: "Look at the distance between us, even if I had arms two meters long I couldn't push you over."

Sheng Jiao: "Stop your nonsense, it was you who pushed me!"

Aya had already seen through everything, and while supporting her and intending to leave, said, "Miss Sheng Jiao, let's go back to your room and get a doctor to look at you."

Tong Tong: "I... "

Sheng Jiao was not pleased, "I'm not going anywhere, she's the kind of person who cannot be left here!"

Aya had a headache, "If Mr. Mu finds out about this..."

You won't have anything good coming your way.

The rest of the sentence definitely couldn't be said out loud; Aya knew dealing with Sheng Jiao's situation wasn't easy because of her special identity.

Tong Tong: "Actually..."

Sheng Jiao: "What do you mean by that? I want Brother Jingyan to know, it was she who bullied me in the first place!"

Tong Tong, interrupted several times, opened her mouth on the side, unable to find an opportunity to speak.

If possible, she and Aya had the same thought of not escalating the situation to avoid affecting her thirty million in three years.

However, in the end, the matter still got brought before Mu Jingyan.

In the study, Mu Jingyan sat behind the desk, the light casting shadows that made his features appear even colder and more rigid.

He gazed at the three standing before him, his stern face showing no hint of emotion.

"What happened."

Tong Tong could hear the coldness in the man's voice; Uncle was very indifferent about their matter.

Sheng Jiao's lips pursed as she began to sob her story to Mu Jingyan while pointing at her injuries.

Mu Jingyan's brows slowly knit together, impatience growing in his eyes.

He waved his hand to interrupt Sheng Jiao, his icy gaze falling on Tong Tong.

"You talk."

Seeing Mu Jingyan's impatience, Tong Tong didn't want to upset his mood and spoke up succinctly and clear.

"There's surveillance in the living room."

The room fell silent for a moment, and Sheng Jiao's crying halted abruptly.

Is there surveillance in the living room?

How did she not know?

Sheng Jiao turned her head to look at Aya, only to see Aya nodding, admitting what Tong Tong had said.

In an instant, the room seemed to spin around Sheng Jiao. She could bribe the servants, but she had no way to alter the footage from the surveillance cameras.

Thinking that she had insisted on making a fuss all the way to Mu Jingyan's presence was like shooting herself in the foot, and when she looked at Mu Jingyan again, she was overcome with such regret that it felt like her guts were turning green.

With just one sentence, the situation had completely turned around, and Sheng Jiao, stammering, couldn't say a word, feeling incredibly guilty.

There was no need for further explanation; her expressions and actions said it all.

However, Mu Jingyan didn't say anything. He simply gave Tong Tong a few more glances before asking them all to leave.

Tong Tong pursed her lips. Was it an illusion? Why did it feel like Uncle had looked at her with a bit more appreciation just now?

Feeling extremely guilty, Sheng Jiao hurriedly left first. When Tong Tong came out and closed the door, Sheng Jiao immediately snapped viciously.

"You knew about the surveillance from the start, and you waited until we were in front of Brother Jingyan to say it, didn't you?"

Tong Tong felt wronged. "It was you who kept interrupting, not letting me speak."

Sheng Jiao didn't believe her. "People like you are always so good at making excuses."

She was burning with anger, but thinking that Mu Jingyan hadn't bothered about the incident made her somewhat proud.

"So what if Brother Jingyan knows it was me? He didn't say anything to me, did he? I'm telling you, I'm different from you. In Brother Jingyan's heart, I'm the most important one!"

Tong Tong nodded. "I know."

She never had any hope that Mu Jingyan would take her side.

Now, she finally understood why no one at school dared to mess with Sheng Jiao. She was someone who lived in the Mu Family and was close to Mu Jingyan.

With Mu Jingyan there to back her up, of course, Sheng Jiao had nothing to fear.

"However, the wound on your face seems quite serious. You should hurry and have a doctor look at it."

Sheng Jiao's smile froze. A wound on her face?

She immediately pulled out the small mirror she carried with her and only then noticed several slender cuts on her face, from which blood beads were seeping out.

They must have been caused by shards from the vase when she broke it.

Sheng Jiao usually cared a lot about her face. Seeing it injured, she screamed sharply, almost fainting.

Aya, who was prepared, covered her ears. Once Sheng Jiao was done screaming, she hurriedly took her to find a doctor.

Tong Tong stood in place, feeling a buzzing in her head.

Xiaoxun, listening behind the door, rubbed his ears with a look of astonishment.

"First, she mentioned the surveillance, then the injury on her face. I didn't expect the madam, who seemed so easy to bully, to be quite scheming."

Sheng Jiao, spoiled since childhood, made a big fuss over the smallest injury, let alone now that she had wounded her most prized face.

Mu Jingyan put down the document he was holding. Tong Tong scheming?

Recalling the girl's flustered appearance in front of him, he dismissed the thought.

That child probably just spoke without understanding the situation, yet she just happened to hit Sheng Jiao's sore spots every time.

Moreover, a dark glint flickered in the man's profound eyes.

There indeed was surveillance in the Mu Family's living room, but it was very well hidden; not even many of the servants knew about the cameras, let alone Sheng Jiao.

Tong Tong had only been in the Mu Family for two days, yet she had discovered the surveillance, showing her strong observational skills.

It was just a pity that it was paired with such a timid character...

Mu Jingyan thought of the burns on Tong Tong's hands and reined in his thoughts.

She was just a tool to appease his grandmother, and her affairs had nothing to do with him unless necessary.

Tong Tong returned to her room alone. Her classes had been suspended by the counselor, and she couldn't go to school now. Staying in the Mu Family's house made her restless.

Just as she was unsure what to do, Fang Yue's call came again.

"Tong Tong, come out quickly. I've found the old man who was photoshopped into the picture with you!"
