If anyone else had brought up Napoleon's name, Count Stephens probably wouldn't have reacted much, but now it was Marvin speaking.
As an Earl, Stephens was privy to some of Anatole's plans. He didn't want to get involved, but was very curious about what exactly Napoleon had said to Marvin.
Since the other party was able to find him, it showed that they had some understanding of the Paris situation. After contemplating for a few seconds, Stephens chose to sit down.
Pulling a tin box from his chest, he took out a cigarette, lit it, and after taking a drag, Stephens asked, "Did His Majesty send you?"
"No."
"You've just arrived in Paris and managed to meet with His Majesty. Let's not play dumb given the circumstances...."
Stephens's gaze swept over the Second Prince and Archbishop Brandon and sneered, "It seems His Majesty's offer did not satisfy you."
