Levin pricked up his ears but heard nothing.
He simply closed his eyes and concentrated all his energy, and only then did he detect a faint, deep howl.
It was indeed a wolf's howl.
The sound was robust and sharp, definitely from a mature giant wolf.
"What's the big deal about having wolves around? Or, are you scared of wolves?"
Daniel rolled his eyes, "I'm not scared, but don't you find it strange?"
"Strange what? We're in the wilderness; it's not odd to have wolves!"
"What I mean is, how can there be wolves near the outskirts of a human city?" Daniel recalled his hunting experiences with his father, "Wild wolves rarely appear near human cities. They're social animals, quite smart. The alpha leads the pack to the most suitable hunting grounds. Humans, armed with guns, aren't afraid of them. Once wolves are spotted near a city, hunting parties are organized to drive them away and kill them. Over time, the wolves stop approaching cities."
