Rain, falling into London.

London was greeted by a rare downpour, the rain pummeled down like it was free of charge, forming silk-like strands that rattled against the windows with a pit-a-pat.

The streets were pitch-black, so dark you couldn't see your own hand in front of you; though it was daylight, not a single glimmer of light could be seen, not even the roadside gas lamps could be ignited.

Even with such dreadful weather, some workers insisted on heading out, taking kerosene lamps and donning raincoats, they stepped into the howling wind with difficulty, but they hadn't gone far before their lamps flickered out, forcing them to grope their way forward in the dark.
