In the evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Molly was cooking a pot of sticky brown food in the cramped apartment. At the side of the dining table sat two silhouettes, one tall and one short.

"Are you working the night shift again tonight?" Molly asked without turning her head as she stirred the pot.

"Hm."

Swan, who was sitting quietly at the dining table waiting for the meal, nodded, "The night shift pays more."

"Didn't your wage go up? And there's a meal subsidy, so there's no need for you to go down the mine at midnight."

"Day and night are the same," said Swan. "Anyway, you can't see the sun in the mine."

"It's most dangerous at night when people are most likely to feel sleepy..."
