Listening to the mad songs of the Golden Gods tinged with laughter, Marvin sank into silence.
Since arriving in Atlantis, he had sensed that the mental state of the Golden Gods was worrisome. Now, it seemed they had fallen into madness during the tens of thousands of years of silence.
Such an ostensibly normal but truly abnormal state was the most terrifying.
In Atlantis, he found not the answers he was seeking.
Klara, the Golden Chief God, was the only deity who did not join in the revelry, always sitting on the throne, watching Marvin. Suddenly, a wisp of golden flame rose in the hollow of Klara's eye sockets.
"If you wish to take us as your example, then I advise you to give up."
The voice of Klara silenced the other Golden Gods, and they all turned to look at Marvin in unison.
"We are failures."
"We couldn't comprehend the mysteries of Alchemy, to reach the realm of the creator."
