Chapter 13 Victor, Messenger (Two in One, Subscribe Please!!!)

Bang!

The gunshot echoed through the forest, shaking off the rustling snow. As the gun smoke had yet to dissipate, Fischer Prester collapsed heavily onto the snowy ground, eyes wide open in a mix of sudden realization and self-mockery.

This was a deadlock.

He could only gamble.

The moment he arrived behind the hillside, he had fallen into Marvin's trap.

What seemed like bait was actually Marvin himself; what looked like Marvin himself turned out to be bait. Real and fake, substance and bluff—if you don't get close, you can never know the truth, but once you do, you undoubtedly put yourself in danger.

The Dreyse Bolt Repeating Rifle could only fire one bullet at a time before having to be reloaded. Accustomed to his double-barreled shotgun, Fischer had forgotten this and made two fatal mistakes.

One was that upon realizing Marvin had shot to lure him over, he subconsciously took the Marvin behind the hillside for bait and didn't think it through.
