Chapter 167 - History of Magic Class.

[Chapter Size: 1900 Words.]

Third Person POV

Hogwarts.

...

...

"Well, we will be starting the class soon... Snape! I mean, Mr.Snape!" the teacher began in a strict voice, holding a handkerchief to her nose to avoid smelling the humans there, as she scanned the Slytherin and Gryffindor students.

However, as soon as Snape entered, her eyes widened upon seeing that he had actually come to her class. This made her stop behaving like a stern teacher and start acting like a teenager. She raised the handkerchief with her hand, changing her expression into a smile, while her voice took on the tone of a lovesick girl.

Everyone in the room immediately stared in shock, wondering what had happened to the strict teacher they knew.

Regardless, Snape entered and walked to the back desk, sitting beside Clarisse, his usual partner and seatmate in class. She pouted, looking at him and then at the teacher, seeming annoyed by that little scene.

Rosaria also glanced at the student sitting next to Snape, shifting her eyes away from him, clearly expressing with her gaze that she didn't like the girl. The same could be said of Clarisse as they exchanged a mutual look.

Snape ignored all of this, but he couldn't help noticing Lily Evans, who, from the corner of the room, looked both irritated and hurt.

"Hey, does Snape know the teacher? Why is she acting so weird with him?" one of the students murmured.

"You didn't hear? They spent hours together after last week's Potions class. I heard Professor McGonagall caught them red-handed, and he lost points for inappropriate behavior with the teacher," another student said, turning it into juicy gossip.

"He's dating the daughter of that vampire? That should be impossible!"

"You know she doesn't even use a handkerchief when she's with him..."

"Damn, how did Snape get so popular? Curse him!" a final student commented.

There were some laughs and whispers among the Slytherin students, while others glared at him with anger and envy—especially James Potter, who looked furious. Snape, however, ignored it all, as always. He just didn't know if James was angry because of Lily's looks or because of the teacher's attention.

At that moment, the teacher cleared her throat, drawing everyone's attention back to her, and continued.

"Well, let's begin! We were discussing the period of King Arthur and Merlin. I may not have lived back then, but my father told me some interesting things you won't find in books."

She started talking, emphasizing her glances at Snape, while he kept his focus on the book he had brought from Salazar's study room. He was examining some formulas and even a way to find the recipe for a potion that could both create and remove the effects of a love potion, as his next project was to learn how to craft magical artifacts.

"Hey, aren't you going to talk to Lucinda anymore?" Clarisse suddenly murmured beside him. Since they had returned to the past, the two hadn't spoken again. It was strange, considering the girl had always been quite attached to him, which was why she brought up the subject.

"Do you want me to talk to her?" Snape asked, not lifting his eyes from the book.

"No, that's not it... It's just that I find it really strange," she insisted.

Snape shrugged. It was better this way. Whatever the reason Lucinda wasn't in front of him, asking questions or making odd statements, it made his life easier. Still, he noticed that the girl seemed restless in the rows ahead, occasionally glancing at him but not exchanging any words—only responding to her friends when they spoke to her.

"Well, I believe we have covered King Arthur's reign during his first year as ruler alongside Merlin, the great wizard. I would like to ask a few questions. What was the greatest difficulty this king faced?" she asked, as some students quickly raised their hands.

One of them was none other than Lily Evans, but the teacher ignored everyone and turned toward Snape, who was sitting further back, reading a book.

"Mr. Snape, can you answer that?" she asked, while Snape lifted his eyes, looking at the teacher, who kept the handkerchief to her nose and displayed a smile.

Snape returned her gaze with a look that made it clear she didn't need to direct that question specifically to him. There were other students who could answer. However, he sighed, already expecting this. After all, he had read a bit of history while searching for time-related spells during the first months he spent using the restricted section of the library.

"Arthur did not have a noble origin. I believe his greatest difficulty was unifying the kingdom under his rule. But Merlin was by his side, and together they consolidated the beginning of his reign," Snape answered.

"Correct! 20 points to Slytherin," she said.

"20 points? Professor, he just answered a basic question! How can you give 20 points for that?" James Potter exclaimed, stunned.

"I liked the answer, Mr. Potter. It wasn't very complex, but it was objective," she replied calmly.

Even so, everyone noticed it, realizing the clear favoritism. Not even with the rest of the Slytherin students was she this kind—usually limiting her rewards to a single point or two, with a bored look when giving them out.

"And minus 10 points from Gryffindor for interrupting me, Mr. Potter," the teacher said in a strict tone.

This left James slightly shocked, while no one really defended him. Even though there were students willing to, no one wanted to lose more points, as it was clear the teacher was on Snape's side and was annoyed by anyone who disrupted her.

"Hey, man... What did you do to her? Did you enchant the professor or something? Like giving her a love potion?" a classmate murmured to Snape.

"Not that I know of," Snape said, turning the page of his book. He had already gone back to reading, no longer caring about anything else.

The class continued, and the teacher asked more questions. Unsurprisingly, she turned to Snape again, who answered and earned more points. Meanwhile, both the Slytherin and Gryffindor students were shocked by the situation.

"Well, I can't say I'm not getting back the points I lost," Snape murmured as the class was coming to an end, closing his book. He wasn't even paying much attention. He was just giving simple answers off the top of his head but was always praised by Rosaria.

"Well, we are done for today. Ah, and you, Snape... I would like to speak with you, if you are not too busy now," she said.

Everyone in the room groaned at that, clearly seeing the favoritism and the teacher's blatant interest in Snape.

"Bloody Snape..." James muttered, while Snape glanced at him from the corner of his eye, making him feel slightly threatened. Clearly, James could no longer mess with him like he used to, but he still harbored a certain rivalry—and now, perhaps even a bit of jealousy toward the current Snape. Much more than he had felt before, as he could see even Lily showing more interest in Snape while he treated her like rubbish.

"That's not how masters and professors usually act..." a student whispered, while others chuckled quietly.

The students began to leave, and Snape remained. Rosaria approached.

"I wanted to let you know that my father has already managed to capture the female Graphorn. I'll be sending it here in a few days. I just wanted you to know that," she said.

"Are you sure about that?" Snape asked, clearly suspicious. He knew it was illegal. Not that he couldn't put another Graphorn with Atlas—perhaps a female would make him stop being so lazy—but knowing that the animal was rare and expensive, and that she was simply willing to give it to him, left him surprised.

"Of course. It's a gift. But I would like us to have tea together every now and then," she requested with a smile.

Snape nodded, but he noticed she wasn't finished yet.

"I also heard that you trained some students last year and that you did very well in Charms classes. I would like to practice a little... After all, you beat me last time, and I would like to see you fight like you did in that strange place again. I want a rematch... Nothing personal," she murmured.

Snape stared at her for a moment, but in the end, he saw no problem with it. She had already seen many of his powers, so he felt almost like an open book to her. Even so, Rosaria had never reported him or done anything suspicious. For now, he trusted her—until proven otherwise.

Upon leaving the room, Snape noticed someone spying on him.

"Come out. I know you're there, Lily," he said, as he saw Evans step out from the side of the corridor, looking cautious.

"I... I'm sorry for that," she replied, unsure of what to say. "But I wanted to ask... You and the professor... Do you have a relationship?" she couldn't help but inquire.

"Does it matter?" Snape raised an eyebrow.

"No," she admitted, lowering her head in shame, though it was clear it did matter to her.

Snape sighed.

"No, I don't have a relationship with her," he finally said, more to ease any worry she might have had about the Love Potion. But that was all he wanted to say. "Now, I'm leaving," he added, turning to go.

"Wait! I... You know... I wanted to know if we could train... You know..." she murmured, stumbling over her words and stuttering.

Snape simply shook his head.

"Remember our agreement. You are breaking it. You know that," he said in a serious tone, making her eyes widen in surprise before she nodded.

Despite the whirlwind of emotions she felt, Lily understood the message.

Snape then walked through the corridors, heading to his next class.

Meanwhile, in the Forbidden Forest, a group of students from two houses—Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw—were near the edge of the forest, accompanied by the Care of Magical Creatures professor. She was teaching the fifth-year students.

"Well, what we have here is a unicorn," she said, pointing to the gentle animal beside her, while the children admired it.

She continued explaining about the creatures, while one of the students listened attentively, until he heard a strange sound coming from the bushes. He thought it might be another unicorn, as there had been a group when the professor brought this one to them, and, wishing to touch it like the professor was doing, he decided to step away from the group and surprise everyone by bringing the animal to them.

He moved through the trees, hearing the sound of branches snapping. He believed he was about to see another unicorn, but when he pushed through the vegetation, he found something completely different.

Instead of the majestic animal, he saw a tangled mess of branches. There was no sign of the unicorn he had hoped for. Then, he looked up.

That was when he saw it. Above him, hanging from a tree, was a black creature with several legs and multiple eyes staring at him. It was a giant Acromantula.

The boy froze for a second. That was all it took for the spider to leap from the tree, landing on him.

A scream of terror echoed through the forest, as the poor Hufflepuff student didn't even have time to draw his wand before he was devoured.
