Bethany's POV
I stared at the ceiling from my position on the bed, counting the tiny cracks in the plaster as if they held the answers to my miserable existence. One, two, three… one thousand. My mind had wandered off halfway through, but it didn't matter. There was no point to it anyway, just like there seemed to be no point to anything anymore.
I turned on my side, curling into myself like a child seeking shelter under a blanket during a storm. Except my storm wasn't external; it was a full-blown hurricane in my mind, wrecking me from the inside out.
How did I get here?
How did I, Bethany, the girl who once dreamed of a life filled with love, laughter, and maybe a golden retriever named Milo—end up locked in a gilded cage, married to a cheating bastard who thought control was a love language?
