Losing Control

Dylan felt something was amiss. How could an ability upgrade take so long? Could she be losing control?

Moreover, there was drool at the corner of her mouth.

"Jodie!" Dylan called out, seeing that she still hadn't responded.

Alberta, worried, pushed her gently. "Jodie, wake up!"

After being shaken by Alberta, Jodie finally opened her eyes a crack. She blinked a few times and then wiped the drool from her mouth, looking confused. "What's wrong?"

Dylan wasn't pleased. "What's wrong? We've all been waiting for you to see what changes your ability upgrade brought. Why haven't you reacted?"

"Oh? Hehe! Sorry, I just fell asleep!" Jodie said sheepishly.

"Damn it!" Dylan cursed upon hearing that Jodie had fallen asleep. So, they had all waited for her in vain!

Alberta chuckled, "You're quite something, falling asleep even while sitting."

Jodie blushed and muttered, "I was just too tired!"

"Did your ability change at all?" Alberta continued to ask.

"Oh, let me check." With that, Jodie closed her eyes again.

This time, it was quick. In no time, she opened her eyes again. However, there was no excitement on her face.

She simply said, "There isn't much change.

I just feel like I can play the flute more easily now.

Before, I would get tired after a while, but now I feel like I could play for two hours straight without any problem."

It seemed that Jodie's ability hadn't undergone any significant changes; it had just been strengthened.

Dylan noticed that their ability levels had all been raised to level 2.

At this point, he picked up two 3-star crystals and thought carefully.

Whom should he give them to?

After considering for a while, he decided to give one each to Dorothy and Georgia.

Dorothy had formidable lightning ability, and enhancing it further was necessary. As for Georgia, her long-range attacks were unparalleled. Dylan had heard of her prowess even in his past life.

No one objected to Dylan's decision. They would support him unconditionally, knowing that he must have his reasons.

Dorothy and Georgia didn't refuse either, directly putting the egg-sized 3-star crystals into their mouths.

Their mouths bulged even more this time.

After a while, they managed to swallow the crystals. Then, like before, they closed their eyes.

It didn't take long before Dorothy was the first to open her eyes. This time, she was very excited. It seemed like there was quite a significant change.

"Zap!"

A thick and long electric current shot out from her right hand, as thick as an arm and about fifteen meters long.

Third-level lightning, indeed powerful. If someone got hit by it, they would likely turn to ashes. Moreover, it wasn't just single-target anymore; anyone in the line of the current would likely perish.

"Amazing, Dorothy! We'll have to call you the Thunder Goddess from now on!" Dylan said with a smile.

"What Thunder Goddess? It should be Lightning Goddess!" Jodie retorted.

"Yeah! Lightning Goddess sounds good. That name suits you," Alberta said, smiling at Dorothy.

Dorothy felt a bit embarrassed by the praise. She modestly said, "I'm already quite old, calling me a Lightning Goddess is a bit too much!"

"Don't be modest, Dorothy. With your perfect figure and good looks, countless men must be lusting after you. You absolutely deserve the title of Lightning Goddess!" Alberta said, glancing at Dylan.

Dylan coughed twice but didn't say anything.

At this point, Georgia also opened her eyes.

"How did it go, ?" Jodie asked eagerly.

Georgia smiled faintly. "Well, within a kilometer, I can hit my target every time."

It seemed that, like Dorothy, Georgia's ability had undergone a quantitative rather than a qualitative change after reaching level 3.

Dylan's own spatial ability was the same. Before reaching level 6, each upgrade just made the space a bit larger without any other significant changes.

It appeared that all abilities worked in a similar manner. Only after reaching level 5 would there be a qualitative change.

However, Georgia's ability to precisely kill enemies within a kilometer was already impressive.

The limitation was that bows and guns couldn't shoot such long distances. This restricted Georgia's ability.

The next step would be to figure out a way to equip her with a sniper rifle. But considering Georgia's background, Dylan felt that this was something she should handle herself. She probably knew where to find one.

Seeing that both women's abilities had been upgraded to level 3, Dylan picked up the only 4-star crystal on the table.

After some thought, he decided to give it to Dorothy.

"Dorothy, you're currently the most suitable candidate to upgrade your ability to level 4. Hurry up and eat it," Dylan said.

Dorothy took the crystal, feeling somewhat excited. She hadn't expected Dylan to give her the only crystal. This sudden happiness was overwhelming.

"Thank you, Bro!" Dorothy didn't know what else to say. She glanced deeply at Dylan and expressed her gratitude.

However, when she saw the peach-sized crystal in her hand, she became worried. The crystal was too big for her mouth, and she couldn't fit it in with just one bite. Cutting it was also impossible. What to do?

She looked to Dylan for help, and Dylan noticed her dilemma.

"Well, Dorothy, if you can't fit it in your mouth, you can eat it like you would eat ice cream!" Dylan said, smiling.

"Oh? This... this..." Dorothy felt a bit embarrassed. Eating the crystal like ice cream with so many people watching would damage her image.

However, when she saw Dylan's encouraging gaze, she decided to give it a try. Dylan had given her the only 4-star crystal, showing his high regard for her. If she continued to hesitate, how could she repay his kindness?

With that in mind, she slightly parted her lips and began to eat the crystal like ice cream. At first, Dorothy felt a bit uncomfortable, but gradually, she relaxed. Before long, the peach-sized crystal had shrunk to just a little larger than an egg.

Dylan watched Dorothy intently, his gaze never leaving her. Watching her eat the crystal was quite enjoyable.

The other girls also watched Dorothy in awe. They couldn't help but swallow their saliva, and Jodie even drooled a little.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed by everyone's attention, Dorothy decided to finish quickly. She opened her mouth wide and forced the crystal inside, puffing up her cheeks like a blowfish, which made Dylan want to laugh.

Finally, after a full five minutes, Dorothy managed to swallow the 4-star crystal. She quickly closed her eyes.

A moment later, she opened them again. She raised her right hand, as if she wanted to test her power. But after a moment's thought, she lowered it.

"Um, I think I won't try it now. This room isn't big enough, and I might accidentally knock down the walls. I'll show you when we go out to kill zombies!" Dorothy said.

Hearing this, everyone knew that Dorothy's lightning ability had become even longer. This was expected by Dylan. It seemed that until reaching level 6, there wouldn't be any surprises.

However, from now on, the strength of their team had truly increased significantly. Dylan was at level 6, Dorothy at level 4, Georgia at level 3, and Alberta, Jodie, and Kelly at level 2. At this stage, they could definitely be considered the strongest human team.

"Alright, everyone get ready. We'll go and distribute supplies with Louise later!" Dylan ordered.

"Nurses, change your clothes and go relieve the three of them in the guard tower. Bring them here to help!"

After giving the orders, Dylan looked at the remaining five 2-star crystals and two 1-star crystals. He suddenly thought of Coal Ball and Second Dog.

Dylan had originally thought of giving a 1-star crystal to Coal Ball to see if it could mutate. Now that he had the crystals, he wanted to give it a try.

So, he got up and went to Coal Ball.

"Dad! Dad!" Coal Ball exclaimed excitedly when he saw Dylan approaching.

Seeing this, Second Dog also came over eagerly and sat at Dylan's feet.
