The Start of the Apocalypse (4)

Acceber and Russel ate in silence.

The kitchen had windows that showed the falling black rain. This caught Russel's attention, and he couldn't help but ask. "Sister, why does it look so dangerous outside, and why has the rain turned black?"

Acceber finished her meal and stared at the rain falling on the window like ink, which gave them an eerie feeling. "The world has changed, and the war between evil and good has started. Let's call it the beginning days of the apocalypse. Have you watched zombie movies?"

"I do! It's my favorite kind of movie. I watch it with my older brothers. Are we going to see them, too?" Russel leisurely ate as if zombies were not bloody creatures who kill to eat flesh and blood.

"Correct! Starting tomorrow night, after the meteors fall, we will be seeing more and more of them. We will also witness deaths and suffering. Are you scared? There's only the two of us here." Acceber smiled at the child as if she was not afraid of anything coming their way.

Russel reflected the same smile and said, "I am not afraid if I am with my sister. My sister has great luck and a golden aura! We will be safe no matter how many monsters decide to kill us! My sister can also count on me. I will do my best to protect the two of us."

This made Acceber laugh. She was not expecting a hairless child to act brave in front of her, but she knew he wasn't human at all. Having someone you could trust on your back is a comfortable feeling, and Acceber felt lucky to have met such a person. "Thank you! But your sister can protect the two of us even with my eyes closed. You don't have to fear zombies or monsters in the apocalypse."

Russel laughed with Acceber. "Sister, do you have a boyfriend?"

The sudden question took Acceber aback. "None, but why did you ask? Is it possible that I look so pretty, and you want to recommend a match to me?"

Russel felt confused. "Sister, the bracelet on your wrist is truly beautiful! I thought your boyfriend gave it to you! I was just curious, not that I want to match someone with you. Marrying a partner is my sister's decision, and that person should be a standard of your choice! I respect that, sister."

When Russel noticed the bracelet on his sister's wrist, he instantly recognized it as one of the Bloodstone family's rare treasures. In their family, each of the children will receive a token from their parents. This token can be in any form and will be gifted to the chosen mate of the person who possessed it.

The token on Russel's hand was a pair of earrings, while some of his brothers kept necklaces, seals, weapons, and bracelets. 'Eldest brother kept a magical bracelet for his future mate, and I saw it all the time in his office. The elders teased him that the token was somehow going to turn into home decor if he still couldn't find the one for him.'

"Sister, have you visited City M before?" Russel remembered that his brother's last trip was to City M. It was also the last time Russel saw his brothers before he was imprisoned in a laboratory.

"I did! I went there for a trip on my birthday!" Acceber did not find anything wrong with Russel's question. But Russel's eyes sparkled in delight as if he had confirmed something. "Sister, do you have a criteria for a boyfriend?"

This time, Acceber answered lightly. "I want to have a boyfriend with the idea that I want to get married to him after. The man I'll choose must be someone stronger, smarter, and richer than me. He must also be capable of protecting me."

"Sister, do you have no requirements for how he looks?"

"Looks are not everything. I don't need a mate who only possesses looks. I need someone I can rely on!"

Russel nodded in agreement. "Sister, by any chance. Did you meet a handsome gentleman when you were on City M?"

Acceber slowly got a hint. "I met a lot of people when I was on City M. Among those, I met a particular person, a big pervert who trapped me with his hands against the wall. He forcibly kissed me and had the audacity to run away! If I ever meet that scumbag once more, I would beat him to the floor."

There was no anger on Acceber's face, but she was very annoyed. The bracelet on her wrist could not be worn off. She did not even see the face of the pervert who dragged her to hide and kissed her with much confidence of his strength.

Russel was startled when he heard his brother's deeds. 'How can my gentle and cold brother do something that breaks the laws of morality? Why would he force himself on my sister? If my sister hadn't described him as someone stronger than her, I would never admit that it was my brother who turned into a shameless person!'

Later that night, the two of them locked all doors and windows. Russel even activated some traps that he knew existed within the villa. Acceber was very satisfied that they could sleep in peace tonight.

When the lights were out, it did not take long before Acceber fell asleep.

A man, entirely covered with protective clothing, landed on the room's balcony. Blood from the unknown was splattered on the garments, but the rotting smell did not even disgust him the slightest. To get rid of the dirty clothes, he stripped himself naked and only left his underwear before he entered his bedroom. 

The smell of lavender and lemons greeted him. His inner wolf suddenly became active. His heart's beat felt like it could explode in his chest. Then, his stare landed on the sleeping figure on his bed.

His purple-colored eyes brightened at the sight of the woman.

The bracelet on her hand was glowing with an odd light. Her long silver hair was scattered on the bed. And his blanket hugged the woman's curves tightly as if she was calling him for a hug.

'MATE!'
