The room Alex was shown to was all white, with a hint of beige. It was beautiful, but Alex wished there was a bit of blue.
She was worried about Jin. She tried to distract herself, but could not focus on anything. Instead, her mind kept going back to Jin.
"It is not as big as your room back in your haunted mansion. However, it is good enough, I guess," Rezef said.
"Our mansion is not haunted," Alex said. "It looks haunted."
"Every time I went near it, I got demonic signs. Demons haunt sometimes," he said.
Alex sat down on the soft bed. It was a little too soft for her taste. Nes would like it.
That said, what would happen to Nes? Would she be alright?
"I didn't know your sister had things going on with her," Rezef said. Alex had no idea why he was not leaving. "None of us could follow her well either. We tried, but something kept blocking us off. Then, we tried to enter her dreams to give her signs. But we couldn't do that either.
"I didn't either."
"She killed two people. I didn't know angels could do that."
"What do you mean she killed two people?" Alex asked, flabbergasted.
Sure, Nes was a little cold. Sure, she had less empathy. But killing someone? That was beyond her. It had to be a lie.
"It is private information though. I heard it from Mistress. She was talking to someone. I eavesdropped."
"I don't… And you eavesdropped? Aren't angels supposed to be… better than that?"
"I lived like a human until last year. What do you expect?" he shrugged. "Anyway, looks like your sister is pretty much a murderer. I hope it's a lie though. Angels rarely make mistakes, but it can happen."
Rezef's words did not make Alex feel better. She wanted to throw up. Nes could not kill someone, could she? Was it because their parents died right in front of her?
"I will let you rest. Then, you can come and meet everyone."
After Rezef left, Alex took a bath. She wanted to go to Theo and Nes. Maybe going to Theo was possible, but it did not seem she could just go ahead and meet Nes. Something happened with Nes and she had no idea what would happen to her. Would Nes be punished? Alex was still certain that Nes did not kill anyone. There had to be a misunderstanding.
The warm water of the bath calmed her down. The bathroom was huge, even bigger than the main bathroom in their mansion. It was all white. What surprised Alex was that she could see no light bulbs, yet it was very bright.
Everything that happened came back to her as she relaxed in the water. The fact that they were angels surprised her the most. They were humans. Yet, she could not deny the fact that Rezef brought them here straight from their home. She had no idea where this place was. However, she doubted, even if she knew, she could ever go back home on her own.
When she was only five, she realized she was not the first thought of her parents. Neither was Theo. It was Nes. But Nes hated it. Alex could not blame her for that; their father beat Nes and called it discipline. Both their parents emotionally abused her, called her useless for not doing chores, and more than once, slapped her in front of their classmates for not getting full marks on tests. Alex did not envy Nes for being their parents' sole attention. She was relieved. Then, their parents were killed when they were ten. Alex and Theo were not home. They were at their friend Aria's place for a sleepover. Only Nes was home with their parents. She had only one friend since childhood- Jin. So, she did not go with them.
Around six in the morning, someone called Aria's landline. Aria's mother picked the phone up. Then, she knocked on Aria's room and gently woke Alex and Theo. She hugged them as she broke down in tears.
Alex still could remember vividly how Aria's father told them the news as gently as he could. He was much more composed than Aria's mother who could not stop crying. Then, they met Nes with a social worker. While Alex and Theo cried, Nes stayed silent and watched everything with a bored expression. That was how Nes dealt with their parents' death. She was frozen, a social worker said to another and Alex heard it.
It might sound awful, but their lives were better after the death of their parents. Casta, their aunt on their mother's side, took their responsibility and came from LA to live with them. She sometimes left for several days, then came back again without bothering to give them any explanation. Alex did not exclusively like their aunt. However, Nes blatantly hated her.
"Acts like she cares about even mosquitos. The other day, she did not let Theo kill the spider. It was this big and she did not let him kill it. Let it live, she said, like a fucking saint."- It was Nes's reason for hating her.
After those two years, Casta rarely came to their place. Then, around fourteen, their grandfather died and left Nes the mansion. It was a shocking thing since their grandfather only saw the three of them once. Nes was not surprised. She said she knew he would do it.
After they came to the mansion, Nesta came to see them even less to one day finally disappear. They had a lot of money. Mainly Nes had money and she gave them a good allowance. She acted like their elder sister even though she was basically the youngest. Nes was more responsible than them, so Alex and Theo were okay to follow her lead.
Now Nes was with Casta, Jin was missing and everything was a mess. She had no idea what to think or do. She wanted to wake up and find out it was all a dream.
