War on the Devil of the Walls

A loud slam on his desk awoke Curtis from his slumber. Looking up, he saw Naos looking down at him with expectant eyes.

Opening the bag, Curtis's eyes shone brighter than the gold inside, ecstatic at the contents. He rapidly whipped his head back upwards to see Naos nodding.

"I took care of the gang you wanted me to." Naos leaned against the desk as he spoke. "They were quite the interesting bunch."

"How did you come back unscathed?" Curtis knew that Naos had contacted the Badgers because of Wilson's account. "I know how strong they are, one of the top in the area!"

Naos brushed him off, "Now that I'm done on my end, help me get to the Goblin Gang."

Curtis looked deeply into Naos's eyes. He didn't want to give his benefactor a tip that might lead him to death. But he could do nothing because he had to follow through with the deal.

"Are you sure about this?" Curtis asked one final time. He sighed heavily when he saw Naos nod. Curtis brought Naos to a separate room that seemed to be his own.

Inside, there was a large map with drooping red lines stretching from place to place, pinned down by thumbtacks. They were all focused on one area of the map, where they were now.

Curtis has been focusing on this for a while now. Naos thought before focusing on the task at hand. Although the majority of the red was focused on one area of the map, there was some towards the center of the city.

Curtis pointed at the outlier, "There. That is where you need to go."

According to Curtis, the Goblin Gang had gained so much influence that everyone knew how dangerous they were and how illegal their activities were, but no one, not even the government, dealt with them.

There were rumors about the gang that they were giving hefty bribes to the government like they were buying the city itself. They had ties to the police, wardens in the prison, and so many more.

The Goblin Gang had an iron grip on Walled Angeles. And Naos was planning to take them on alone.

Curtis looked back to Naos in worry and was hopeful that he would understand the dangers, but his hopes were crushed by Naos's smile.

...

The idea was to storm the subsidiaries one by one and force the forces into one place. Then Naos would leverage his peculiarity and eliminate all of his enemies in one fell swoop.

This would mean that he would accomplish his goal while simultaneously cutting loose ends in a way where he would minimize the aftermath. Naos told Curtis about his thoughts.

Curtis was slightly dismayed at the idea of such slaughter. After all, this was at least 200 people! But he was eventually convinced by the fact that these people were those who had ruined the livelihoods of others out of greed.

Naos's smile grew wider when the plan became more and more fleshed out.

3 days later, it started.

...

It was 7 P.M. at Glowing Oasis. A lesser-known company "supported" by the Goblin Gang. Although on the backburner, it still had some reasonable manpower that a company of such size could not think of hiring.

Naos stood outside with his face covered. In his hand was Nova, shining under the moonlight. An employee had come up to the window to flip the "open" sign.

When he saw a silhouette somewhat nearby, he squinted to get a better view. For a moment, he thought he saw a man holding a gun. He rubbed his eyes frantically and looked again.

He hadn't seen wrong, it was a man with a gun! The worker saw a man of good height, sharp features, and dark hair. His mouth was covered and his eyes blended into the darkness.

The worker ran as fast as he could, but before he could reach the back door, everything went black.

Naos lowered his smoking gun and walked to the building. Nova was a loud pistol, so many had heard the shot. And that was exactly what he wanted. In less than a minute, people would start appearing with their own weapons.

As if on cue, people started pushing each other out of the door to the back, gushing out of the small door. Many of them had pipes and other rudimentary weapons, but some held guns of their own.

Those with the guns saw Naos and opened fire. As he was in an open space, there was no cover. The smarter ones aimed where they thought the attacker would dive, but Naos stood still.

The bullets hit his shoulder and abdomen. He was jolted slightly but continued walking. Pulling up the glowing pistol, Naos fired at the 4 that had guns. Instantly, they were eliminated and the grunts were stunned.

Naos put Nova back in its holster and charged forward as fast as he could. He crossed the wide gap quickly and arrived in front of the reeling goons. He punched one in the jaw so hard it flew off of the man's face.

He who had just lost his jaw in an instant clutched where it had been and tried to scream. But before he could even choke on his blood, Naos struck again.

This hit had killed him, and Naos moved on to the next victim. The 40 people total were discombobulated at the brutality and 4 more were killed before they were able to do anything.

When the fifth person was killed, someone in the back shouted and got everyone's attention. After speaking something inspirational to them, or more likely saying something about Naos, the morale rose.

Now they were the ones on the offensive. For a large mob, very few attacks hit Naos, but those that did dealt quite a bit of damage.

But to their horror, the invader brushed it off like it was nothing and continued. The numbers were thinning quickly and before long, the bloodbath had ended with a crimson man standing alone.

Looking back at the store, Naos nodded before leaving a mark on the scene. It was a crescent moon with a phoenix peeking out the gap. This was the symbol that Naos had picked up a few times in the past.

After having accomplished his goal, Naos left the area just as silently as he had arrived.
