The One

Chapter 1

It was already raining heavily when l got to my apartment,l had gone out to get some food stuffs but unfortunately got caught up in the rain when l was returning home.

l quickly took off my wet clothes so that l won't catch a cold,l put on a blue cardigan and sat on the chair close to my window. The rain was quiet heavy and that drove me into a sad and cold mood. l sat there staring at the buzzing and rumbling of the heavy rain accompanied with thick thunderclaps and lightening,l reminiscenced on the past events that took place in my life over the past six months.

I was now a shadow of my formal self,l barely interacted with people....

I fell with someone who didn't love me back and l didn't know how to handle it,l was angry l loved in the first place which got me into my present isolation state and l couldn't tell my mom though it was eating him up.

I remembered how l caught Silver my Ex girlfriend cheating on me with another guy,it broke me apart and l vowed never to love again.

At first l didn't take it to heart but as days passed and l realized the one l loved betrayed me,l withdrew myself from everyone because l thought nobody was to be trusted expect for my mom.

The breakup with silver changed me because l loved her dearly and the incident was still fresh in my head like it happened yesterday.

I moved on but didn't get back my old self,l was now an isolated alien among everyone.

Tears rolled down my cheeks as everything flashed through my head. It took a while but l eventually stopped crying and moved over to my bed,l took a book from the small bookshelf l made close to my bed and read till l slept off.

I woke up an hour later when my phone ranged,it was my mom ,l had not spoken to her for a week and l knew that got her worried to call and ask if l was okay .The conversion between my mom and l lasted for a while until the call eventually ended,l dropped my phone and went into the kitchen to prepare what l would eat for dinner .After cooking l hurriedly ate my food and went straight to bed because l was already feeling headache as a result of the my earlier sober state.

I woke up as early as 5:27 the next morning and immediately started preparing for school as it was my first class and l couldn't afford to be late.

At 7 o'clock l was already done with everything and l set out for my lectures,l took a cab to the school gate.It was the famous and prestigious University of Port-Harcourt .

I boarded a shuttle immediately l got there and in few minutes l was at the venue for my first uni lectures.

I went into the lecture hall with so much anxiousness that at first glance someone would tell l was shy and scared.

Partially from the view of others l sat in a chair close to the window and immediately sank my face into my desk and started reading a novel like l had exams the next day.

Not too long after about 23 minutes later the subject lecturer came in and he briefly introduced himself.

He taught us like he was Isaac Newton as we listened attentively to him. Did l mention l was medical student,oh well l was a medical student.l have always wanted to be a doctor so that l could help sick people,now back to where I stopped.

A phone rang and it immensely disrupted everyone's attention as the whole class already fix the gaze in the direction the sound came from.

The sound came from my direction, it came from a slim girl sitting in a desk in front of me. It sent chills across my whole body but l acted like l was okay.

The girl tried to switch off her cell phone but it was too late as the lecturer already told her to stand up.

The lecturer asked her to explain what he said last but she couldn't answer and that made the class become tense,the class became more tense when the lecturer ask the class to explain what he said last since their fellow coursemate could not.

The whole class was cold and quiet like a graveyard as nobody could say what he said last.This got the lecturer angry and he decided to pick people himself and at the total of 25 students he threatened to stop and that would end the lectures for that day if any of the students he pointed couldn't answer the question.

He had pointed 9 students when the unexpected happened,the lecturer pointed at me and l hesitately stood up .

The lecturer was about pointing another student when l started talking, l was explaining what l thought l possibly heard the lecturer say before the phone interruption.

After saying all l could remember ,l stood there waiting to be ridiculed by the lecturer when the lecturer smiled and asked the class to applaud me. That was a narrow escape tho

That was a sign of relieve for everyone as a savour had come to save them.

The lecturer continued with his teaching and it went on smoothly till the end of the class....
