Chapter 24. Nexus...[6]

Third Person's POV...

As the kidnapper's trembling fingers grasped the phone, the anticipation was palpable. The air was heavy with tension, like a thick fog that clung to his skin, making his heart race with every tick of the clock.

Before he could utter a single word, a voice like ice water dripped with malevolence, sending shivers down his spine. The words dripped with an unholy authority, each syllable a razor-sharp blade that sliced through the silence: "Did you capture the Experimental Subject...?"

The kidnapper's voice quivered like a leaf in an autumn gust, his words tumbling out in a frantic, fearful rush. "L-Lord, we had captured them, but... but one of our own was killed, and I... I was gravely injured by the guard. The Experimental Subject was with the Asura Prince, and to ensure my safety, I took the prince hostage. I had to, Lord, to guarantee my own safety and to bring the Experimental Subject back to you..."

The pause that followed was like a held breath, the silence so thick it seemed to have a physical presence. Then, the voice on the other end spoke again, its tone a masterclass in calculated menace. "Good. Bring me the Experimental Subject. But release the Asura Prince before you return. I want no... complications."

The kidnapper's eyes darted wildly, his mind racing with the implications of his failure. His voice cracked like a brittle twig as he confessed, "L-Lord, there's a problem. The children... they escaped from me. They fled deep into the forest, but don't worry, Lord, I will recapture the Experimental Subject. I won't fail you again, I swear it."

The response was like a gentle breeze on a summer's day, a stark contrast to the kidnapper's own turmoil. The voice was encouraging, almost... caring. "I believe in you, my loyal servant. I have faith that you will capture the Experimental Subject and bring it back to me. Do not disappoint me."

The kidnapper's eyes locked onto the phone, his gaze burning with an unholy intensity. He knew that he had to succeed, no matter the cost. The alternative was too terrible to contemplate.

With a newfound determination, he set out to track down the escaped Experimental Subject, driven by a desperate need to prove himself to the sinister voice on the other end of the line.

...

In the grand, opulent Office, a towering figure of a man, with chiseled features and an aura of refined sophistication, sat poised, exuding an unsettling, unholy presence.

His piercing, jet-black eyes seemed to bore into the very soul, while his snowy white hair, styled with precision, added an air of distinguished elegance.

The office itself was a shrine to darkness, with walls as black as coal, adorned with cryptic, glowing white inscriptions that seemed to pulse with an otherworldly energy.

The air was heavy with an unspoken malevolence, as if the very fabric of reality was warped and twisted within these confines.

As he concluded a call, his voice dripped with saccharine sweetness, "I believe in you, my loyal servant. I have faith that you will capture the Experimental Subject and bring it back to me. Do not disappoint me." The words were laced with a paternal warmth, but his countenance told a different tale. His face was a mask of sinister intent, his eyes flashing with displeasure, his lips curled into a sneer that seemed to dare the listener to defy him.

With a flick of his wrist, he terminated the call, and his gaze shifted, his eyes locking onto some unseen presence. "Zero...Come," he commanded, his voice low and menacing.

As if summoned from the very shadows themselves, a figure materialized, its entire face a grotesque, twisted mass of scar tissue and misshapen features.

The creature's eyes, sunken and empty, seemed to hold a vacant devotion, as it dropped to its knees, its voice trembling with reverence, "I Greet My Lord, What's Your Majesty's Command...?"

The middle-aged man's response was laced with an air of detachment, his tone dripping with malevolent intent, "The Members Of Our Organization had failed in Bringing the Experimental Subject. Although they captured the Subject, one of them died, and the other captured the Asura Prince as a hostage to ensure the safety and success of the kidnapping, but the Subject and Prince have escaped from him." His words were a slow, deliberate burn, each syllable dripping with venom.

The disfigured man's response was laced with a mix of trepidation and devotion, "Lord, Should I send enforcement... to help recapture the Experimental Subject...?"

The middle-aged man's expression twisted into a grotesque, devil-like grimace, "No, this plan is already doomed when that idiot captured the Asura Prince... Our Organisation can barely survive the Rage Of Reyas's Principal, let alone the Descartes and Maris Families. So, the Organisation will go completely underground for quite some years...and that idiot can be left to his own devices and You go kill all relatives, Family members, friends of those two idiots."

The disfigured man's eyes widened in shock, his voice trembling, "But they were members Of Our Organization,Lord" The middle-aged man's response was a cold, calculated fury, as he rose from his seat, his movements fluid and menacing.

He approached the kneeling figure, his eyes blazing with an unholy intensity, and lifted the disfigured face, his hand closing around the man's chin like a vice.

With a sudden, brutal motion, he slapped the man with a force that sent him crashing into the wall of the office, the sound echoing through the chamber like a crack of thunder.

The middle-aged man's face was a twisted, demonic visage, his eyes blazing with an infernal fury, as he loomed over the crumpled form, he roared, his roar dripping with contempt, "DON'T QUESTION ME, BECAUSE I AM YOUR LORD, YOUR GOD...YOU LOWLY CREATURE..."

The words hung in the air, a challenge, a threat, and a promise of unspeakable horrors to come.

I got Contract very early when the novel had only published its 6th chapter. I was unsure if I should sign the Contract so soon. After thinking for a while, I decided to go ahead and sign it. Please support me in this decision.
