Chapter 2

Master Jinora on top of her bison, she is deep in her meditation, trying to astral project towards the location of the avatar. She was currently on top of the now abandoned air temple in Republic city, her childhood home.

The air nomad had created a new temple near the spirit portals, acting as both the guardians of humanity and spirit, as well as keeping the harmony between the two factions.

But Jinora always returns here, back to her childhood home to meditate, or if she ever feels stress. Right now, she's feeling both.

She was the one who told the white lotus that Peng and his family is alive, that the avatar is alive.

Her connection to the spirits is strong, strong enough that it allowed her to commune to them and to locate the spirit of Raava that was dwelling inside the avatar. He was fully expecting the new avatar to be a fire nation born one, since she too believed in the news of Peng's death.

But to her surprise, he discovered that Kai is very in fact, alive. She quickly shared the news to Mako who is the current grand lotus of the order. And as the news spread, the order had decided to talk to Peng, to convince him that it was his son's destiny to answer the call, the burden of becoming the avatar.

Although there was some opposition to this, like Yong and his faction within the order, who wants to take the avatar by force, and to put away Peng for his "traitorous act", the majority of the elders voted to have a peaceful talk with the master earth bender and his family. Saying that by doing so, they will have a good impression with the avatar.

So with that said, Mako had taken it to himself to talk to Peng and his family, Yong who had a seemingly change of heart, volunteered to escort Mako inside the earth kingdom where the family had been found.

But right now, Jinora feels something deep within her, something dark, she feels like the balance that Korra had created is at the verge of breaking. It made her feel uneasy, frightful even.

This made her start to meditate, trying to astral project towards the location of Mako to see how things are going. Because if what she's feeling is right, then they needed the avatar more than ever.

But she couldn't concentrate, try as she may, the feeling of dread has been stoping her from fully letting go. "Mako..." She mutters softly, her voice close to a whisper. Her face was full of sweat as she looked worse for ware. The stress was getting to her.

Her sky bison gave a low growl, as if to ask her if she was doing ok. Jinora smiled softly as she patted the head of her bison. "Don't worry Pepper, I'm fine, just a little tired."

"MASTER JINORA!!!" She opened her eyes when she heard her name being called, she turned around to see Kaliya, an air nomad and one of her students. "MASTER JINORA!!! COME QUICKLY!!!" Kaliya is Jinora star pupil, often accompanying her in her meditation sessions.

"Slow down child." Jinora sighed as she shook the uneasy feeling in hear heart. "What is it? I thought I told you not to disturb me at the moment."

"I'm sorry master, but some people from the white lotus are here. They say that they found the avatar." Kaliya spoke excitedly, her voice full of happiness as she relay the news she received.

"Really!" The old master's eyes widened. "It may seem I was worried for nothing... Mako did it huh?.. Very well child, let them come, I want to see them and hear the news my self."

"They're at the gates waiting master Jinora. Come on let's g-" Before Kaliya could finish, she was pushed out of the way as a powerful blow of air was sent in her direction by Jinora. Just at the nick of time for her to dodge a sharp rod made of metal that was sent her way.

Jinora then stared at where the attack came from, her eyes sharpened as she saw 3 members of the white lotus standing on the door, the other is raising his hands, clearly a sign of him bending the sharp metal rod.

"What is the meaning of this?" Jinora spoke sharply, her eyes not leaving the 3 man.

The three man didn't answer, instead they started to bend their respective elements, a large fire ball beamed straight for Jinora as two metal spikes also flew towards her.

She jumped to the air, blowing a strong burst of air under her, carrying her high into the sky. She then moved her hand in front as she created a ball of dense air and sent it crashing towards the three man.

One of the men rushed in front of the others, he then stomped his feet as he got into an horse stance. Creating a large boulder in front that blocked the ball of air.

The other man then kicked the boulder three times, sending three fast moving projectiles towards the air bending master.

Jinora scrunched up her face as she twist mid air, dodging the stones by a hairs width, she then extended her left hand towards the group, blowing a strong gust of air that would even send a fully grown bison flying.

The three man rolled, dodging the forceful blow that cratered the ground where they stood. One of them quickly recovered and did a turning forty five kick as fire followed his movements. A blade made of pure fire then was sent towards Jinora, it was perfectly timed to when she would land.

Jinora moved quickly though, the moment she landed, she spun quickly creating a barrier of air the domed around her. The barrier made the flame's trajectory falter as it turned to a different direction.

'two earth benders and one fire bender.' Jinora's mind quickly gauges the three adversaries she have. 'And by their level, the three of them are masters. from their attack they are aiming to capture me, not kill me. But the question is... Why?'

She shook the thought out of her head, the reason is not that important right now, she can learn it after defeating the three attackers. For now, she has to focus if she wants to come out on top.

She moved quickly, her Airbender training showing its roots as she dodged everything that came her way. Occasionally she would send a counter attack, but the three men worked together seamlessly to twart her actions.

Jinora is doing her best not to get too close to the three man, she knew that the moment they get into her space would mean disaster for her.

The firebender rushed towards her, projecting a strong burst of flame at the soles of his feat, pushing himself towards the airbender. Jinora tried to jump back, but her feet was suddenly snag by the earth beneath her, she clicked her tongue and looked one of the earthbender who trapped her.

When she looked back, the firebender was already right in front of her, she raised her guard to block the blow, but she knew it was a futile effort. But before the firebender could land a blow, a gust of air pushed him from the side, sending him rolling to the ground.

Jinora turned to where it came from and saw Kaliya standing there with her hands raised. She gave her a quick nod as she proceeded to bend the air into a dense orb and broke the earth bindings that held her by the ankles. She then jumped back and landed beside Kaliya.

"Master Jinora, wh-what's happening? Why is the order attacking us?" Her student asked nervously, trying to make sense of what's happening.

"I do not know child. But what I do know is that the other elders would have some explaining to do." Jinora answered sharply, not taking her eyes off the three. "Child, I want you to take Pepper back to Republic city, head straight for Bolin. Tell him that the white lotus might be compromised."

"But what about you?" Kaliya's eyes widened as her voice shakes, she turned towards Jinora and give her a worried look. "Master, I'm not leaving without you."

"Child, the three of them are masters benders, even with the two of us we can't take them on. Especially since you still haven't completed your training." Jinora spoke as matter of fact. "I was only able to fight them off because they have no intention to kill me. You on the other hand..." Her words made Kaliya shudder.

Her eyes unconsciously moved towards the metal rod that is sticking out of the ground. Her mind jumping back to earlier, if Jinora didn't push her away, she would have been impaled.

She shook her head and try to push the fear down. She looked at her master with resolved with the intention to stand her ground and help her. "I'm going to st-"

"You're only gonna be a burden." Jinora spoke coldy, cutting her off before she can deliver her intention to stay. "I can't fight them at my best while protecting you as well. Go child, I will hold them here long enough for you to get out of their range of pursuit."

Kaliya bit her lips, deny it as she wants, she knows her master's words were true. she glared at the three attackers one last time before dashing towards the sky bison.

The firebender saw this and launched a beam of flame towards the young airbender. Jinora moved quickly, jumping in front of the attack, she used the air to redirect the raging flame's, feeling the heat pricking her skin, her clothes burning from the heat, as the sound of crackling fire roars in her ears.

She panted heavily, as burns and scald appeared on her skin. She clicked her tongue in frustration. She wasn't a fighter who excels in direct confrontation. She's someone who relies heavily with her agility and evasion, so blocking and redirecting the flame's took a toll to her, especially at such a close range.

Kaliya stopped on her tracks as she looked at the state Jinora was in. She took a one step forward towards her master, but Jinora glared at her and screamed. "GO CHILD!!!"

She closed her eyes and shook her head, she could feel the tears welling up on her eyes, she wiped it roughly as she turned her back on her master.

Jinora smiled seeing this. "Good girl." She mutters as she turned her attention back to the three benders. She shakily raised her hands up, wincing at the pain of the burns inflicted to her by the fire. "YOU WILL NOT HARM MY PUPIL!!!" Her voice turned cold in anger as the air started to pick up in intensity. It rotated around her as the ground that surrounded her started to be sliced by sharps blades of air.

There is a misconception about air nomads, viewing them as weak due to their pacifism, and while it is true that they choose to diplomacy over violence 9 out of 10 times. The moment they choose violence, they are perhaps the most dangerous benders out of the 4.

The three members of the white lotus unconsciously took a step back and raised their guard up, they know that right now, they're goal of capturing her might be easier said than done. That right now, they should aim for the kill to not lose their life.

Mako dodge a large earth spike that was thrown at him, he then circled his hands as flame's followed his movements, with a grunt he pushed his hands forward sending a large ball of flame towards multiple members of the white lotus.

Peng on the other hand has his hands full with Yong, the two clashed right at the middle, with Xinyi trying her best to keep the other white lotus member away from her husband.

"You have grown soft Peng, weakened by the illusion of peace that you had." Yong smirked as he kicked Peng, targeting his knees.

Peng raised his legs, blocking the kick with his shin that was covered with solid stones. He then spun and jump, performing a picture perfect spinning kick that flew straight towards Yong's abdomen.

Yong smirked, he didn't even dodged the blow, he stood as a pillar of earth rose and block the kick while he delivered a counter of his own. "While you rot here, with you being a father and a family man, I have grown stronger, honing my skill to new heights." He bended the ground beneath Yong, vibrating the earth and turning it into sand. The lose soil made Peng lose his balance for a bit, but that was all the time Yong needs to deliver a devastating blow towards his solar plexus, sending Peng flying in the air.

"PENG!!!" Xinyi shriek as she mowed down multiple people with her bending, she turned the metal marbles into fine powder and used it like sand bending, shredding flesh and armor at every move.

Before she can reached him, an ice spike embedded itself into her left shoulder, she didn't see it coming as her attention flew towards her husband. The blow sent her rolling in the ground in pain. She gritted her teeth and compressed the fine metal powder into a sharp spear and launched it at the waterbender who injured her. Impaling him straight at his chest.

Mako watched the carnage, she saw how Xinyi killed a white lotus without any remorse, he shook his head. "YONG STOP THIS!!! THIS IS NOT THE WAY!!!" Right now, Mako is still trying to reason with him, not wanting more senseless bloodshed.

Yong just looked at him coldly, he then stomped the ground raising a large boulder up in the air. "This is the only way Lord Mako, but you're too weak to realize that!" He then punched the boulder, sending it hurdling towards the old firebender.

Mako stood his ground, he gritted his teeth and steeled his heart. "So be it." He mutters as he twirled his hands, electricity following it's trails, his eyes shone in a dangerous glint as he points to fingers towards the boulder.

Mako's internal struggle reaches a critical point as he witnesses Xinyi's lethal response to her attacker. This pivotal moment prompts Mako to confront Yong one last time, urging him to reconsider their actions. However, Yong remains steadfast in his belief that their course of action is necessary. This final exchange solidifies Mako's resolve, as he realizes that lethality may indeed be the only way to end the conflict. With a heavy heart, Mako steels himself for the difficult decision ahead, prepared to take decisive action.

The lightning moved quickly, destroying the boulder, passing through it like it was nothing, it continued it's momentum, beaming straight to Yong.

Yong smirked, he raised his hands up in the way of the lightning, a metal rod forming into his palms. "The white lotus had thought me many things Lord Mako..." The lightning hit the metal rod, resulting in Yong absorbig the lightning inside his body. He then looked coldly towards Mako and frown. "And unfortunately for you, that includes redirecting lightning." He changed his stance, bringing his back foot forward, he let the lightning moved inside his body and aimed his other hand towards Mako, another metal rod formed in his hand as the lightning burst forward towards the old master.

Mako widened his eyes, he hurriedly got into a stance to redirect the lightning once again. He extended his finger forward, absorbing the lightning into his body. Follow the same movements of Yong. But before he can finish, the metal rod in Yong's hand, sharpened and flew at lethal speed straight for Mako.

In the middle of him performing the technique, he felt a sharp pain at his chest, making him lose his concentration. The lightning burst inside his body, frying his internal organs as the metal rod became a conductor for the lightning to go straight into his heart.

"LORD MAKO!!! Peng screamed in horror as he watched Mako's body convulsing from the electricity that was burning him from the inside. "No..." He mutters weakly and turned his head to the side while closing his eyes, unable to watch anymore.

He then turned towards his wife, Xinyi was holding her shoulders with an ice spike embedded in it. She had her eyes glued at the now lifeless body of Mako.

As the two of them are processing the death of the old master, a voice cuts through the air. "This didn't have to come to this. If only you'd listen to me old man." It was Yong, the couple looked at him and saw him having a face that was scrunched up. His face was the picture of reluctant regret.

"YOU!!!" Peng screamed, as he stood up quickly, the metal in his possession turning into two gauntlets that formed around his hands. "I'LL KILL YOU!!!"

Yong reacted quickly, but it was not enough, he was still processing the fact that he killed Mako, for him it was a necessary move to insure that his plans come into fruition. But it was still hard for him, especially since Mako was the one who had shown him the ropes inside the white Lotus.

This made him move a step late, he turned around, only to see Peng already in front of him. He raised his hands, the metal following his will. But it was too late.

The gauntlet expanded and formed into a blade, Peng slashed towards Yong, Aiming for his head.

Yong raised his hand, and fortunately for him, he was able to block the slash. But it caused him an arm

The rest of the white lotus moved, they surrounded Peng and pushed him to the ground, Xinyi tried to help her husband but she too was overwhelmed by the numbers.

Yong rolled to the ground in pain, clutching his now severed right arm. He looked at Peng with anger as he gritted his teeth.

The white lotus members continue to beat Peng up, his eyes firmly glued to Yong in rage. As punches and kicks rained down on him, he could only think of how he failed in killing that vile man. Perhaps Yong was right, he did grew weak in the years where he was at peace with his life, but he knew, if given another chance, he won't fail again.

Yong slowly stood up, eyes full of rage he kicked Peng in the head while he was being held by the others. "YOU FUCKING WASTE OF SPACE!!! YOU CUT MY ARM OFF!!!" He continues to stomped at his head, as Peng stared at him with anger, his face becoming a bloody mess.

This scared Yong for a moment, the eyes of Peng never left his as he continues to rain down blows on him. It made him shudder.

Xinyi screamed in anguish, begging for them to stop, but the white lotus member continued to brutalized Peng without mercy. His body laid on the ground as they took turns to beat him to a pulp. Yet his eyes was still glued towards Yong, the anger could be felt by anyone who was looking at him.

Yong in rage of loosing his arms, and the unconscious fear he developed due to Peng's eyes bended a metal sword, he gripped it using his sole remaining hand and raised it up in the air. He stared at Peng's eyes and spoke. "I only need one of you to draw the avatar here." He spoke coldly as he raised the sword up in the air.

"I'll wait for y-you in hell!" Peng spat on Yong's shoes as he shakily spoke his last words.

"Perhaps... But you will die today!" Yong let the sword fall on Peng's head, but before it could connect. The whole world shook.

The ground began to open, the sky darkened as the clouds covered the moon and the stars. The birds the were resting in their nest started to shriek. One of the holes the open on the ground erupted, sending a pillar of lava up in the air. The very nature itself began to show it's wrath.

Peng and Xinyi stared at each other, Peng bit his lips in frustration. "that idiot." He mutters to himself. He knew what was coming.

Yong smiled crazily. A hint of fear showed on his face, every other member of the white lotus shuddered.

And out of nowhere, an object feel from the skies. The shockwaved sent multiple white lotus members flying, sending them crashing to the ground, the impact cratered as it sent dust and debris everywhere.

As the dust settled, everyone saw a boy, standing there, looking at them with rage, the earth beneath his feet continued to crack, as he stared at them with white glowing eyes, the ground continued to shake, it grew even stronger when his eyes landed on the bloodied face of Peng.

Yong shakily took a step back, as well as the other members of the order, feeling the pressure that the boy is releasing.

"K-Kai..." Peng closed his eyes, the moment he was dreading was now here. "You fool..." he whispered to himself, he knew that at this moment, he can no longer shield his son of the burden that is the avatar. He realizes that the world itself seems to move for Kai to realize his destiny.

Kai eyes glared at Yong, he then grit his teeth as he spoke coldly. "GET AWAY FROM MY FATHER!!!" His voice seemingly mending with the air, like the world itself was speaking through him.

The avatar had now made his presence known.
