Winter ball
The next day,Emily had gone to the orphanage home. She volunteered to help in an orphanage home,she had helped them save their home when it was getting bulldozed by the government.
With help from her father she had gotten their home back for them and had been going there helping them,it had been her second home after her father's death and she found fortress there.
"A man is waiting for you"those words gave goosebumps to Emily,her feet turned cold instantly when the little boy informed her that.
She wasn't sure if it would be another meeting with that stranger again.
"Where is he?"she asked the boy who pointed at a direction.
A man stood with black shades on his eyes,he wore a leather jacket and shiny shoe,he rested his back on his black sport car.
Emily frowned and went to where he stood,
"What are you doing here?"her face dropped in annoyance,she now preferred the rude sexy man to be waiting on her now.
"Is this the way to greet your boyfriend?"the man removed his shades to reveal a set of blue eyes.
He smirked at her while touching his chestnut brown hair and smiling innocently.
"We are not dating"Emily rolled her eyes,
Alan was Emily's childhood friend and her crush since high school,she expressed her feelings to him after high school and he rejected her.
Emily was heartbroken and they were back to being friends till his so called girlfriend cheated on him,he had turned to Emily for a rebound and Emily foolishly agreed because of her feelings.
It still played in her head a day she would never forget,
'Sarah cheated Chucks' Alan called her by her last name and didn't call her Emily which made him always unique from the rest.
'I'm so sorry Alan' she hugged him,
'It not your fault' he looked up at her before asking those questions that made her heart thump and gave butterflies to her belly.
'Will you be my girlfriend?'he asked,
Emily's eyes widened,she had been trying hard being his friend while she still had feelings for him and yet he dated another girl,she didn't like the feeling but tried hard to be happy for him.
'Yes' Emily replied heartily and regretted it.
Alan never had time for her and they bickered and fought all the time.
Emily soon realized Alan wasn't the one for her and she broke up with him,she was still heartbroken when she learnt he went back to his ex.
"How is Sarah?"Emily asked with a frown,
Alan stared at her before answering,
"She is fine,as always focused on making it big"Alan chuckled,
"Everyone wants to make it big"Emily muttered,
Sarah owned a fashion line and her work was one of the best in Atlanta.
Emily and her were once friends but the friendship died later and they moved on with their lives.
"So chucks,how is the foundation for the new shelter home going?"
Emily's eyes widened,how did he know?
"Don't give me that look,my step dad is the mayor of course"he flashed her a smile.
Alan's step dad was the mayor of Atlanta and they had to get his approval to start the building.
He had agreed immediately knowing it was Emily,he always treated Emily well and cherished her.
"He kept on dragging how I broke your heart and you should forget me and keep visiting"
"He sure really missed me a lot"Emily replied as both of them were walking the garden in the orphanage together.
"So I heard you are going to the winter ball?"alan asked,
"Yes,are you coming?"she returned the question,
"I don't really have a choice"Alan sighed because he hated the ball alot but since he was the mayor's step son he had to be there.
The winter ball was held by an unknown person,no one knew the person but every year the wealthy people in the society get invited to the ball.
The ball had lot of rules,a mask was worn in the ball and anyone who removed their masks were thrown out and never invited anymore to the ball.
People didn't really care if they didn't know the organizers of the ball,they saw it as an excuse to show off their wealth in a fancy place.
"The mayor is still hellbent on finding the originators of the ball"Alan drawled as he didn't care much.
He wasn't keen into politics and just wanted to own a film studio where he could direct and produce movies.
"Give the mayor time,I know he will let you do what you want"Emily assured him knowing what was in his mind.
The mayor wouldn't stop Alan from doing what he want but the mayor wanted him to focus more on politics and looked at the social world as a mere distraction to Alan.
"I hope he will"Alan murmured.
The day of the winter ball came,Emily had never gone to the winter ball but this time she had gotten an invite.
She felt it was because of her new development on the shelter home that why she got an invite.
After her father's death,her and her mother weren't considered as wealthy people anymore even do they still had money,but they didn't longer had power.
It didn't really bother Emily or her mother and they kept on doing their things.
She was excited on going to the winter's ball as Riley was always invited but going with Gemma put her on edge.
Emily had only heard how fancy the winter ball is from Alan and Riley but she had never seen inside as phones weren't allowed to take pictures and what not.
That day,Emily Riley and Gemma went shopping for their gowns for the night event.
"Gemma should better be on her best behavior cause the winter ball has lot of rules and it would be bad if she got kicked out"Riley informed.
"I have spoke to her,she has promised to be good"Emily concluded.
Soon the pairs got ready and left for the ball,the three had their masks with them and ecstatic.
