Preparation

A month had swiftly passed since the day Riley was summoned away, and school had returned to its usual rhythm. But for me, the approaching day of my 18th birthday was a crescendo of excitement and nerves. Preparations were in full swing, and every detail had to be perfect.

The first task was the invitations. I spent hours poring over designs, selecting a parchment that was both sturdy and elegant. The script was written in flowing gold ink, each letter a work of art.

I sealed them with my family's crest, a symbol of pride and tradition. Handing them out was a ceremony in itself, a personal touch to show my esteem for each guest.

"Your presence is requested to celebrate the occasion of my birthday," I recited as I handed an invitation to Sir Gareth, one of Louise most trusted knights. "I hope to see you there."

Sir Gareth bowed, his smile genuine. "It would be an honor, Lady Aurelia," he replied, tucking the invitation into his tunic.
