Now in the forest, where so many deadly eyes were on him, he wasn't sure how many there were since the trees covered his vision, but he knew that murderous intent was being directed towards him from multiple sources.
Not wanting to find out the holders of the murderous intent, he turned around and quickly ran. After all, not too long ago he had struggled to kill a rabbit that was trying to run away from him. How was he supposed to fare against beasts that wouldn't flee?
"At least a coward will live to see another day," he thought as he fled. But his efforts were in vain because the true hunters of the forest had finally left their positions. Jumping out of the bushes were wolves, larger than those on Earth, with canines that could probably cut his body in half and hungry eyes that were waiting to devour their next prey.
Each of these ferocious predators was now surrounding him from all sides, ready to pounce. They were of different colors and sizes, but roughly the same size. The first one, a brown wolf, lunged at his head. Due to his augmented reflexes and speed from the spear on his back, he dodged just in time, going under the wolf's belly. He used his spear to stab the wolf deep enough to kill the beast.

Not wasting any time looking at his notifications, he quickly ran from under the wolf and dashed back the way he had come without looking back.
The wolves didn't dwell on their fallen brethren but instead chased him with bloodlust in their eyes.
After running for some distance, he was getting tired and was approaching the area where he had killed the rabbit, the lifeless body still there. The wolves, however, showed no sign of tiring.
"Shouldn't NPCs have a certain area they can't leave? But these guys have been chasing me all this time," he thought as he continued running for his life.
He monitored his energy, which was already at half, indicating how long he had been running.
[Energy: 5/10]
At this rate, the wolves would eventually catch up to him, and he wasn't sure he could fight with zero energy, so he had to think fast. When they reached the dead rabbit, some of the wolves stayed back to devour it, leaving only three chasing him.
He kept running to put some distance between himself and the remaining wolves. When he reached a clearing far from the others, he stopped, making the ferocious wolves stop too.
Turning back with a grin plastered on his face, he looked directly at the wolves.
"You guys are gonna help me level up," he said, making his wide grin even wider.

He only needed 50 more experience points to reach level 2.
The wolves, not wasting any time, quickly descended upon him. He was ready, though. Dodging their synchronized attack, he moved with precision, his spear at the ready. The first wolf lunged again, but this time he sidestepped and delivered a powerful thrust, his spear piercing its side deeply.
The wolf yelped in pain but didn't go down immediately. Using the momentum, he twisted the spear, causing further internal damage. The wolf collapsed.

His energy was depleting fast.

Two wolves remained. They seemed hesitant now but were still driven by their predatory instincts. The next wolf, a grey one with piercing blue eyes, tried a different tactic, circling him to find an opening. He watched its movements closely, his grip tightening on the spear.
The wolf lunged at his legs, aiming to incapacitate him. He jumped back just in time, avoiding the sharp teeth. Taking advantage of the wolf's momentary imbalance, he struck with his spear, aiming for its neck. The spear hit its mark, and the wolf fell, twitching before going still.

One more to go. The last wolf, slightly larger and with a black coat, growled menacingly. It seemed to understand it was the final one standing. The man, despite his exhaustion, felt a surge of determination. This last kill would secure his level up.
The black wolf didn't attack immediately. Instead, it sized him up, pacing back and forth. He could feel his heart pounding, his energy reserves dwindling.
[Energy: 2/10]
With a sudden burst of speed, the wolf lunged. This time, it was more aggressive and coordinated. He barely managed to block its initial attack with his spear, but the force of the collision sent him stumbling backward. The wolf didn't let up, pressing its advantage.
He dodged left, then right, narrowly avoiding the snapping jaws. He needed to end this quickly. Summoning the last of his strength, he feigned a stumble, drawing the wolf in. As it pounced, he rolled to the side and thrust his spear upward with all his might.
The spear pierced the wolf's chest, and it let out a final, blood-curdling howl before collapsing.

He had finally leveled up. The rush of energy that coursed through him was invigorating, restoring his vitality and replenishing his depleted stamina. He stood there for a moment, catching his breath and reveling in the sense of accomplishment. The wolves lay dead around him, their bodies a testament to his newfound strength and skill.
Looking at his hands, he marveled at the power he felt surging through his veins. "Level 2," he muttered to himself, a smile spreading across his face. "This is just the beginning."
He knew he couldn't stay there for long. The forest was still a dangerous place, and more predators could be lurking nearby. He needed to find a safe spot to rest and plan his next move. But before that, he decided to take a closer look at his surroundings, making sure there were no immediate threats.
Scanning the area, he noticed that the dense trees provided excellent cover but also limited his visibility. The clearing where he had fought the wolves was now eerily silent, the only sound being the rustle of leaves in the gentle breeze. He took a deep breath, savoring the moment of peace after the intense battle.
His thoughts returned to the wolves. "If I can handle these creatures, I can handle whatever this world throws at me," he thought, determination hardening his resolve. He couldn't afford to let his guard down. He needed to stay sharp, to keep improving and pushing his limits.
He glanced at his spear, now stained with the blood of his enemies. It had proven to be a reliable weapon, but he wondered if there were better tools out there, ones that could help him in future battles. The idea of upgrading his equipment became a priority in his mind.
With renewed focus, he decided to move on. The forest was vast, and there was still much to explore. As he walked, he couldn't help but think about the journey ahead. Each step brought him closer to uncovering the secrets of this virtual world, to mastering its challenges and becoming a true warrior.
He was no longer the same person who had hesitated at the sight of a rabbit. The encounter with the wolves had changed him, had given him a taste of what he was capable of. And he liked it. The thrill of combat, the satisfaction of victory—it was addictive.
As he ventured deeper into the forest, he kept his senses alert, ready for whatever came next. He knew there would be more battles, more creatures to fight. But he was prepared. He had leveled up, and with each new challenge, he would grow even stronger.
In the distance, he heard a faint sound—a rustling in the underbrush. He tensed, gripping his spear tightly. Whatever it was, he was ready. This was his world now, and he was determined to conquer it, one battle at a time.
The journey had just begun, and the path ahead was fraught with danger. But he welcomed it. With a steely gaze and unwavering resolve, he pressed on, ready to face whatever awaited him in the depths of the forest.
As he moved, he began to strategize. He had learned a lot from his encounter with the wolves. His reflexes had improved, and he understood the importance of conserving energy. He also realized that knowing his environment could give him a significant advantage in battle. With this in mind, he paid close attention to the terrain, noting potential hiding spots and obstacles.
Every sound, every movement was scrutinized. He was determined not to be caught off guard again. His experience had taught him the value of vigilance. The forest, with its dense foliage and unpredictable wildlife, was a constant reminder of the dangers lurking within.
Despite the peril, he couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. This world was challenging, but it was also full of opportunities. He was ready to seize them, to test his limits, and to become the warrior he was meant to be.
