A Strange Bat

He put on the helmet and entered Victory. Ray opened his eyes and found himself at his usual spawn point.

In Victory, players could create spawn points by going to houses, talking to owners, and living there. When a player died or logged back in, they would respawn in the house they had set as their spawn point.

Walking out of the house, Ray made his way to the blacksmith to check on the progress of his equipment.

"I still need some more time," the blacksmith said, hammering away at a glowing piece of metal. "After all, you gave me a lot of equipment to make, and I won't be able to finish it in such a short amount of time."

Ray nodded and left the blacksmith's shop, deciding to explore the town a bit. He entered the marketplace, which, though different from the one in the tutorial, still exuded a lively vibe that made anyone feel welcome.

Since he was already here, he decided to buy some supplies just in case he needed them later. He asked for directions from some NPCs and started moving around, looking for what he needed.

While walking, he encountered Martha, the NPC who had given him potions during the tutorial. He wasn't expecting to see her in the main server. Ray approached her to see if she still remembered him.

"Hello, young adventurer. What do you need for your travels?" she asked.

From her tone, he realized she didn't remember him. "What a pity," he thought.

"Nothing, just looking around," he said.

He was about to leave when an object in the corner of her shop caught his eye. It was a black bat with intricate designs and symbols on it. Despite its ordinary appearance, something about the weapon drew him to it.

"Hello, ma'am. What kind of weapon is that?"

"Oh, you mean this? A foreigner came to the land and sold it to me. At first, I thought it was a good idea since it was such a weird weapon, but when people tried to use it, it wasn't good at all. It even weakened people, so no one bought it."

"How much is it?" Ray was too engrossed in the weapon to care much about what she was saying.

"It's completely free. Nobody wants to buy it, and it's just collecting dust here."

Ray happily collected the bat from the woman. Holding it in his hand, he carefully examined it. It was lightweight but felt a bit powerful. He swung it around a bit and realized it felt similar to the bats used in the real world.

"From the looks of it, it seems that you haven't acquired any new skills yet, huh?" Martha asked.

"How can you tell?"

"The look of your equipment clearly shows you're an amateur. Have you even been in a dungeon before?"

"No," Ray admitted.

She then told him how dungeons were no joke and that normal people like her couldn't fight due to the difficulty.

After saying his goodbyes to her, Ray went to buy some skills. He had read from a guide about where to go.

He walked until he encountered an old man in a secluded building. The man looked as if he had been expecting him.

"Here are the various skills you can acquire," the old man said shortly, not even trying to make any small talk like other NPCs. After those words, Ray's system opened, displaying various skills. There were three classes of skills players could use:

Utility Skills: These skills could be used by all players, regardless of their abilities or class. They were generally supportive or enhancing in nature.

For example, the Utility Skill *Insight* allows players to perceive the world and things around them better. This skill is invaluable for scouting and information-gathering, giving players a strategic advantage by highlighting hidden traps, enemy weaknesses, or secret passages.

Ability Skills: These skills were unique to the abilities chosen by the player and could range from elemental attacks to teleportation.

For instance, a fire mage could learn *Fireball*, launching a ball of fire at the target that deals damage over time. Meanwhile, a healer might learn *Heal*, a skill that restores health to the user or an ally, making it essential in prolonged battles.

Class-Specific Skills: These skills could only be learned after selecting a class and were exclusive to that class. For example, a Warrior might learn *Shield Bash*, using their shield to stun and damage an enemy.

On the other hand, a Mage could acquire *Arcane Blast*, unleashing a burst of arcane energy that deals area damage. Rogues, specializing in stealth and precision, might learn *Backstab*, dealing high damage when attacking from behind.

Ray looked at the various skills available. With the limited skill points he had, he could only afford the cheapest one.

He focused on Insight, and some information popped up about it.

Name: Insight

Rarity: F

Rank: Mortal

Description: This skill allows you to perceive the world and things around you better.

Name: Enhanced Senses

Rarity: F

Rank: Mortal

Description: Increases the user's overall senses.

After learning the skill Insight, Ray's senses increased, and he perceived the world differently, almost as if he had a new pair of eyes. The details of the environment became clearer, and he felt more attuned to his surroundings.

He read from the guide that Insight could also be used to find information about dungeons, players, skills, and weapons too. So even though it was the cheapest ability there, it was one of the most useful skills out there.

Having this new skill on hand, he wanted to check out the bat.

Name: ????????????

Rarity: ????????????

The description was short, and he didn't know why he couldn't get all the information.
