Chapter 20

John was at home, engaged in a conversation with his mother. "Oh please, Mom, stop with your 'my baby is the most handsome man in the world' talk," John blushed, a hint of a smile playing on his lips.

"Yes, you are! Can't you see all these pretty girls falling for you?" His mother pinched his cheeks affectionately.

"Whatever," John muttered, his blush deepening.

"Don't 'whatever' me, you little monkey," she pouted, shaking her head. "Anyways, now you've realized that Charlene isn't as bad as you thought she was, right?"

"Yeah. They were all big misunderstandings. I'm glad we talked it out," he sighed, relieved.

His mother smiled warmly. Just then, John heard Mabel calling his name from the living room. He went out to see her.

"Hey, how was your day?" Mabel asked, hugging him tightly.

"Great. I was by my mom's side the whole day," he chuckled.

"Is she fine? She was worried," Mabel asked, pulling back from the hug.
