Chapter 23

The soft hum of the boat's engine blended with the gentle lapping of the river, creating a peaceful melody. The moon hung low, casting a silvery glow on the water as Emily guided John onto the small boat she had reserved just for the two of them. John stepped in cautiously, glancing around at the vast, empty river stretching out before them.

"This is... incredible," John said, his voice filled with awe.

Emily smirked, settling into the driver's seat. "You haven't seen anything yet." She maneuvered the boat smoothly into the current, her excitement bubbling just under the surface.

John leaned back, letting the cool breeze brush against his face. "I didn't know you could drive a boat," he teased.

"There's a lot you don't know about me," Emily shot back with a playful grin, her eyes glinting under the moonlight.

John chuckled, watching her with admiration. There was something so effortless about her confidence, something magnetic that he couldn't quite put into words.
