Chapter 21: The Forest ambush 1

Chapter 21: The Forest ambush 1

"So you are saying the first grade mutants aren't even the strongest?"

"Yes, I studied them and noticed the number of zombies that bite a person makes their attack power, some might get more disfigured, taller, fatter and even brutal," Gambit explained not the team all sitting in a circle position around him.

They were in one of the tanks majorly driven by Barnabas as it was the only vehicle with enough space to house them and their carelessness.

Gambit had taken his time to explain a bit about Zombies and mutant from his own knowledge and this took Eri unprepared.

'While I was busy trying so hard to survive in the store, Gambit was actually studying the zombies all day long,' he smiled ruefully.

"What about their speed and innate Abilities?" Carl raised his hand up as though this was a class if students to ask a question.

Gambit firstly carried a face that showed he could not decipher the question however soon got his equanimity.

"Their speed cannot be calculated, or at least I haven't figured how to measure that," Gambit honestly spoke, a true attribute little possessed to admit he was short on information. "Concerning their abilities, I can say it's basically comes with the type of person relayed in the situation not to forget his body type."

"So you are saying I could become a liquid or somewhat fluid zombie if my zombie follows that synergy?" Skylar who got his face stapled with a lot of bandages asked precariously.

Gambit finished off with a nod.

"If a zombie bites you I'm sure you'll become a pile of bandage!" Elsa made fun of Skylar and everyone broke into laughter in reply to this while he reddened in bashfulness.

Eri in the likelihood placed a hand on his chin and took into consideration what Gambit said. 'So if I get bitten, will I become a Vampire or some horror, doll whatever.'

Eri could not place it right but he was typically a mutant too, 'a vampire is considered mutant right, and I still have unanswered questions about the horror doll and why I got the system, come to think of it did they also watch the first broadcast to the end? Or do they have similar system problems.'

Having a new line of chaotic form of thoughts he opened his mouth and asked, "do you guys also have, systems or.... Do you have..."

"Oh you mean the blue stuff holgram that shows your level and continental Ranking?" Carl was the first to fire on, already knowing his exact words.

'So they also have systems, then what species are they? and what are the names of their systems?' Eri felt more eager to further more questions and he did, "do you see your stats and invest points?" He exclaimed like a child and sensed a discomfort in the air in that moment, "the name of your system? Species? Wh---"

"We have no idea of what you are saying?" Elsa said with a shock and disharmony in her voice.

'Man I got too carried away and blurted stupid stuff, shit!'

Just as more questions were about to let loose the truck came to a stop abruptly and soon the sounds of the millitary officers began to rise as they exited there vehicles.

Unsure of the reason the group went foward to meet Barnabas in the front sit to get information on why they had stopped so abruptly.

"Well, we can't keep on going in this dark, it's most dangerous especially in the mountains, we'll be making a stop here in a small base we created rest assured," Barnabas barely flinched while telling them this and Eri perceived something was wrong but ignored his feeling.

'Its probably the blood coming to me again.'

As they left Barnabas to alight the truck, he grinned and knotted the key in it's hole before pulling out.

'We are finally here!' Barnabas sniffed the air and left the driving seat alighting the car to the ground.

Eri and the group saw Barnabas order his team to lead them into the forest and they did almost immediately.

'Why is he doing this? He isn't coming with us?' Eri and Carl found this odd and it showed on their expressions.

Though their suspicions they still had to follow the soldiers.

Sixteen military going up front and two others from behind, perhaps they had some-base up on the mountain path? That was what the team thought about while Eri.

He had the creeping sense of them getting betrayed here, it could be possible the soldiers planned to kill them there. If it was their plan there was no law to hold them from doing it and that was a problem.

'But what will they derive from killing us?' that point was simply unclear.

Eri got closer to Carl and wrapped his hands around his softly. So far he had the best connection with Carl and would love to protect him.

Eri knew of Carl's probability skills and suspected he saw the same red lines here, still, 'If an ambush was to ever happen Carl would be at the greatest disadvantage in speed and reaction time, I would have to protect him.' Eri took this mission, as he kept studying the expressions of the soldiers carefully.

Some were happy while other's carried mean expressions, somewhat turning the sides of their eyes to them and looking with some hate.

'The more I look at them....? The more I get anxious? It's like I can see them smile and harness some hatred towards us..... Especially.....'

Eri turned his eyes to check for Barnabas and he was not there. 'As expected, he owns the greatest hatred and this can longer be ignored, we are with the enemy.'
