In the best hospital in the city, inside a hospital room.
Adam woke up from unconsciousness to find himself lying in a strange hospital room. Surrounding him were white walls and various medical equipment. He tried to recall what had happened before he lost consciousness.
He remembered being on his way to a part-time job when he witnessed a car accident. A luxury car crashed into an old lady, and he rushed forward to push her out of harm's way. In doing so, he got hit and lost consciousness.
Adam looked around the room and realized that everything in the hospital room matched the images in his mind when he was awake. This puzzled him, making him wonder if he was dreaming.
He closed his eyes, trying to calm himself down. However, when he opened them again, he realized that he could vividly see everything in the hospital room in his mind, as if he possessed some kind of special ability.
After several confirmations, Adam was convinced that he had gained the power of insight.
"This can't be an illusion, it's real!" he muttered to himself, smiling excitedly.
Suddenly, a surge of unfamiliar information rushed into his mind, causing him intense pain and dizziness.
After a moment, Adam processed this information and was pleasantly surprised to discover that not only had he gained the ability of insight, but he had also awakened psychic abilities due to his head injury.
His insight was actually a form of psychic detection, a method of utilizing psychic power. Apart from psychic detection, there were also psychokinesis, hypnosis, mind reading, and so on.
Just as he was about to experiment with psychokinesis, the hospital door swung open, and a nurse walked in.
"You're awake? Then it's time to settle your medical bill," the nurse said, handing him the payment slip.
Adam's heart sank because he knew he didn't have enough money to pay the medical bill.
"The medical expenses should be covered by the person who caused the accident, where's the driver of the car?" Adam inquired.
"I'm a nurse, not a police officer. My job is to collect payment," the nurse impatiently responded.
"In that case, you can leave. I'll take care of the bill," Adam said coldly. He didn't have time to waste with the nurse; he needed to gather money as soon as possible.
The nurse thought to herself, "This poor guy, I shouldn't have arranged a VIP room for him."
"What did you say?" Adam looked at the nurse coldly.
"I didn't say anything," the nurse stammered.
"I can read minds, you know," Adam teased.
"Nonsense!" the nurse muttered under her breath.
Adam chuckled, feeling much better. He was excited because the mind-reading effect pleased him greatly.
The hospital room door opened again, and a young policewoman walked in.
Upon seeing her, Adam's eyes lit up. Her beauty was stunning, yet she emitted a cold aura.
"What's going on?" the policewoman asked.
"Nothing much, are you here for me?" Adam interjected.
"Yes, I'm Penelope. I came to thank you for saving my grandmother," the policewoman said.
"Your grandmother?" Adam asked, puzzled.
"Yes, the elderly woman you saved yesterday," Penelope clarified.
"Is the old lady okay? What about the person responsible for the accident?" Adam asked with concern.
"My grandmother is fine now. As for the person responsible, I'll make sure they pay," Penelope replied.
Adam awkwardly smiled, unsure of what to say.
"Here's a million. Consider it my gratitude," Penelope handed him a bank card.
Adam looked at the bank card coldly. He did need money, but Penelope's attitude was off-putting.
"Not enough? I can add another million," Penelope frowned.
Adam remained silent and walked into the bathroom.
After a while, he came out wearing different clothes, tossed the hospital gown onto the bed, and approached the nurse.
"Take this card and pay the medical bill, then return the card to Officer Ye," Adam said, throwing the bank card to the nurse.
"I got injured saving your grandmother, so the medical expenses should be covered by you guys."
