Arlo's world went black, and when he came to, he found himself sprawled on Remi's bed. His head was spinning, and he was oblivious to the fact that Remi had vacated the ICU.
"Where's Remi?" Arlo asked, his voice echoing in the room.
Inara, cradling the baby, hesitated before handing Arlo a letter, its paper yellowed with age.
Arlo took the letter, his mind a whirlwind of confusion, and began to read:
"Arlo,
I'm entrusting Chloe to you. I won't be coming back. You must be wondering why I'm leaving her with you.
I need to meet my wife; she is the only one who truly made me believe in this world. Without her, there is no reason to live. But before that, I need to seek my revenge.
My father used to say, 'If you can't do something in the present no matter how much you try, then don't attempt it again in the future. It will bring great misfortune.'
