When it rains, it pours.

She went to the office and she had already noticed the icy atmosphere there. She saw some people she talked to at the party that night and their attitude toward her completely changed. They gave her a meaningful gaze and then avoided her. Now, the atmosphere in her current department is spread all over the other departments. At least, that is what she thought. She decided to focus on her work since she really wanted to go home early that day. Lunch break came and she just decided to get a jelly drink and went to get fresh air outside. Her phone rang, it was her uncle.

"Hello, Uncle."

"How are you?"

That was odd. He usually doesn't ask that question and goes directly to the reason for his call.

"I'm fine. It's lunch break in my office."

"Your cousin is asking for your bank account info."

"Uhm, why?"

"Your boyfriend invested money in your cousin's business. We decided to send you a percentage of the earnings."

She could not think of what to say. She felt her insides tremble.

"You should ask some other people in there to invest. Ena, you are not getting any younger. You should consider the opportunities that could guarantee your future. Send me your bank details."

Her uncle ended the call and all she could do was stare at her phone, fighting off her tears.

Her cousin's business is questionable and a lot of people on the internet have said that it is a scam and they lost a lot of money. She thought that it may be legit since Aidan has invested in it but then there is the thought that he invested because of her. She wanted to confirm those details right away but she still had a lot of tasks to do. She decided to cut her lunch break short and went back to the office. She was alone that time and she noticed Rachel's PC was unlocked. She went to lock it but then noticed her name on one of the chatboxes on the screen. She was able to read the horrible content inside.

"So, she is dating our boss?"

"Do you think a man like our boss would even bat an eye at a girl like her?"

"But people saw them heading to the parking lot. He was even holding her hand."

"Wow. You just never know about the quiet ones. Do you remember she was also involved in a scandal before in the sales department? I heard it was about a guy again."

"Wow."

"Wowwww!"

"I thought she was with Jake."

"More like stole."

"Yeah, I heard Danielle almost had a miscarriage. She took an early maternity leave, by the way."

"Oh my!"

"Poor Danielle. We should visit her or send her some gifts."

"Right."

"True."

"So now she ditched Jake with our boss?"

"Can't blame her for that. Our boss is hot."

"No, she is awful. How can she get away with all of this?"

"She won't. Karma is a bitch yall!"

"Maybe it will take long for karma to come."

"Or maybe we can be her karma."

"Shhhh!"

She stopped reading by then and went to her desk.

5:00. Time for everyone to leave. She also stood and went to Jane instead. She then handed her a piece of paper.

"What is this?"

She did not respond and Jane opened the letter and skimmed through it.

"Immediate?"

She nodded.

"Take a leave and we will talk about it then."

She shook her head.

"You know that we lack manpower now, right?"

"I'm sorry."

Jane sighed heavily then went to her desk and sent an email to the operations manager.

The others who were about to leave stalled and were curious about what they were talking about. After a few minutes, she just walked past them and left. She caught a glimpse of them huddling with Jane, but she did not care.

She took an elevator to the floor of the CEO's office. The people she passed by were murmuring and she felt like running away. Her heart felt like there was a lead on top of it and her tears were occasionally forming, but she just sniffed and forced her facial muscles to stay in the same place. If she lets any of her facial muscles to droop, then the tears she had been holding onto will flow mercilessly.

She finally faced the secretary and she was giving her a business-like smile.

"I'm here to see Sir Aidan."

"I'm sorry but he is currently busy at the moment. What is this for?"

"Nothing that concerns you."

The secretary's business-like stance crumbled as her eyebrows twitched.

She did not particularly care anymore. She was already at her limit.

The door opened when another employee came out of his office and their eyes met just when the door was about to close. Aidan then told the secretary to let her in.

"Ena. You look pale. Are you alright?"

He was about to approach her when she finally spoke.

"Did you invest in my cousin's business?"

"Yes, I did."

"How much?"

"Ena, I did not solely invest in your cousin's business just because of you. It was purely business."

"Did he tell you that he would give me a percentage from the earnings of your investment?"

"Yes, he mentioned it and that was explained properly to me."

The way he answers her questions tells her how much of a wall they have between each other. She wondered if he would withdraw the investment before doing it if he asked her first. She just wished that he had talked to her. She could not hold it as her tears started to fall, so, she turned away and ran out of his office.

The closest place she could run to hide her crying face was the restroom. Aidan was following closely and instructed his secretary to have the place inaccessible to the others still on the floor. He waited outside as she locked herself in and he could hear her pitiful sobs inside. It went on for an hour and he started to get worried. He wanted to wait to give her privacy but it was already quiet inside.

"Ena. Come out. Please."

She finally opened the door and her face was so red and her eyes were puffy from all the crying. He gathered her in his arms but she just stood there motionless.
