Giving aid in times of need was far more valuable than merely adding to success.
That was Byakuya's philosophy. He preferred those who supported him in difficult times rather than those who only came when it was convenient.
He had no intention of keeping those who harboured grudges against him—those people would be dealt with in a single punch.
-New World – Marine G-5 Base-
Despite the impending attack from the strongest Emperor crew, the Whitebeard Pirates, the atmosphere at the G-5 base remained unchanged.
Rather than being in chaos, everything proceeded as usual, as if the looming threat had nothing to do with them.
Among the soldiers, a common discussion had begun circulating:
"If Base Commander Byakuya really is a member of the Night Organization, what should we do?"
"That's easy—keep following him! It's not like being a Marine really makes a difference for guys like us."
"Exactly! Working under Base Commander Byakuya is way more thrilling!"
"Yeah! Once we become part of the Night Organization, we can take whatever we want. We couldn't rob Marines before, but now?"
"We can even take from them! Just thinking about it is exciting!"
This wasn't just the opinion of a few—it was the general consensus among most of G-5's troops.
The rumor spread quickly, and soon, even the acting base commander, Issho, heard about it.
But rather than being surprised, he found it made perfect sense.
The dark, ink-black justice he had once envisioned… wasn't that the perfect embodiment of the Night Organization?
Only now did Fujitora truly understand the weight Byakuya carried.
If not for witnessing the corruption within the Marines and the World Government, why would Byakuya—a young man who had risen to the rank of admiral at just twenty, with a future full of promise—choose to create the Night Organization all on his own?
Byakuya was truly remarkable! To serve under a young man with such grand ambitions was an honor! This was Fujitora's genuine belief.
If Byakuya had known that his careful manipulation of Observation Haki—guiding Fujitora's perception to create the perfect image—would lead to such an outcome, he probably wouldn't have been able to stop grinning.
However, while neither Fujitora nor the G-5 soldiers were concerned about Byakuya's true identity, the looming threat of the Whitebeard Pirates was another matter entirely.
Under Fujitora and Ferguson's command, the soldiers were put on full alert, artillery was stationed along the walls, and preparations were made for the inevitable battle.
Fujitora was determined—no matter what, he would hold the G-5 base until Byakuya returned!
But to Fujitora's surprise, the very next day, the Whitebeard Pirates arrived in full force, rapidly approaching the G-5 base.
And that wasn't even the worst of it.
When news came that two other Emperor crews—the Big Mom Pirates and the Beasts Pirates—were also making moves toward G-5, Fujitora nearly broke down on the spot.
Three Emperor crews moving together to attack a single Marine base?!
It would make sense if the three of them were attacking Marine Headquarters.
After all, the main base was strong enough to put up a fight, even if facing three Emperors would be difficult.
But for them to be targeting a single Marine branch? That was completely absurd!
It was like using a cannon to kill a mosquito—total overkill! For the first time, Fujitora began questioning his own resolve.
No one could withstand an assault from three Emperor crews!
"Byakuya, hurry up and get back here!" he thought bitterly. "This disaster you caused—why am I the one dealing with it?!"
News of the impending battle spread like wildfire.
No one could have predicted that a single Marine branch—G-5—would provoke an attack from three of the Four Emperors.
Or rather, to be more precise, it wasn't G-5 that had provoked them—it was Byakuya alone.
Wait… no, it wasn't just three Emperors.
There was a fourth.
The remnants of the Red-Haired Pirates—Shanks' crew—had also been affected.
Strangely, the Red-Haired Pirates had yet to take action against G-5.
What was even more baffling was that, of all the Emperors, Shanks had suffered the most because of Byakuya.
His losses far exceeded those of Big Mom and Kaido. Yet while those two were already mobilizing their fleets, Shanks had made no move at all.
His silence was the biggest mystery of all.
The next morning, Fujitora, Fergus, Ain, and Tashigi stood atop the G-5 fortress wall, their faces grim as they stared out at the massive fleet approaching from the horizon.
A heavy weight pressed on everyone's hearts.
They all knew that if Byakuya didn't return in time, the inevitable outcome would be the complete annihilation of the G-5 base—every single one of them would fall at the hands of the pirates.
Even if Byakuya did return, would he truly be able to turn the tide against the combined assault of Whitebeard, Kaido, and Big Mom?
The Whitebeard Pirates were advancing from the north.
The Big Mom Pirates were closing in from the west.
The Beasts Pirates were approaching from the south.
As they drew nearer, the sky over each direction darkened with ominous storm clouds, thick and unyielding, pressing down on the G-5 base like the weight of impending doom.
The suffocating atmosphere made breathing hard as if the entire fortress was being crushed under the heavens.
Even Fujitora—whose strength rivaled an admiral's—felt the immense pressure.
His Observation Haki picked up a terrifying sense of impending crisis, a danger so overwhelming that he couldn't shake the thought:
He might actually die here.
But even so, Fujitora never once considered abandoning the base. Instead, he turned to the soldiers and gave a resolute order:
"Prepare to fire! We will hold this base until Base Commander Byakuya returns!"
High above the G-5 base, Rob Lucci and his group observed the dire situation below.
The sight of Fujitora and the others trapped in a hopeless battle left them in deep conflict.
Enel, never one to hesitate before a fight, suggested, "Why don't we go down and help them?"
Of course, this wasn't an act of kindness. Enel wanted to test his strength against top-tier powerhouses like Whitebeard.
Law furrowed his brow in concern. "If we don't intervene, G-5 will be completely wiped out within half a day."
Lucci, however, hesitated. "But Lord Byakuya hasn't given the order to act."
"If we move without his command, we'll only confirm the suspicion that he's part of the Night Organization."
"If that ends up ruining his plan, no amount of death will atone for our mistake."
As the world reeled from the shocking news of three Emperor crews laying siege to the G-5 base, another piece of information spread just as quickly—Byakuya was already on his way there.
To most, this was nothing short of suicide.
Rather than walking straight into his death, wouldn't it make more sense for him to retreat to the Night Organization's stronghold?
That way, no matter how much Whitebeard and the others searched, they couldn't find him.
Besides, G-5 was a Marine base—what did it have to do with Byakuya? Yet, to everyone's astonishment, the Marines took no action.
It was as if none of this had anything to do with them. With such blatant inaction, the message was clear:
The Marines had abandoned G-5. Or rather… They had abandoned Byakuya.
