Blood mixed with brain matter exploded, splashing a steaming mixture of red and white.
No matter how much technology evolved over thousands or even tens of thousands of years, the moment a skull was cracked open, there was no distinction of high or low, no nobility, and no gap of any era.
The soaring blood confused everyone's colors and shook their spirits.
Following the gunshot, whistling shockwaves slammed into the ground, creating a tidal wave of impact, raising billowing dust clouds that greatly affected everyone's visibility.
"There's a sniper!" screams echoed through the sky.
Soldiers shouted in confusion, experienced veterans quickly sought cover, rookies fired indiscriminately, and the black-clothed figures simply lay prone on the ground.
At the sound of gunfire, Reno dashed out as well.
He rushed towards Colonel McLaren, lowering his body as he charged forward, executing a sliding tackle.
Swish!
A laser beam nearly grazed his face, fired by a soldier reacting quickly to Reno's advance. But just as the soldier aimed for another shot, a depleted uranium armor-piercing round tore through him, shredding him to pieces, scattering flesh like a crimson feast across the sky.
Simultaneously, Reno's foot connected with Colonel McLaren's, the sudden impact knocking him down. Before he could get up, Reno had already lunged forward, embracing Colonel McLaren and rolling into the building with him.
In the moment they rolled in, Colonel McLaren raised his knee, thrusting it into Reno's abdomen.
The force of the blow was not light, causing Reno's body to stiffen in pain. The Colonel seized Reno's arm, saying, "I've been through wars like this before. This little skirmish doesn't scare me!"
With a twist of his wrist, a titanium dagger appeared in his hand, viciously stabbing towards Reno.
Reno tilted his head, the dagger grazing his neck as it thrust past. In response, he raised his head, ramming it into the Colonel's nose. The Colonel recoiled, howling in pain as Reno slammed him against the wall, saying, "Do you think I'm here to scare you?"
The Colonel elbowed Reno's shoulder from behind, causing him to hunch over. "Then what are you here for?" he demanded.
Reno remained silent, only turning his head to glance at something lying not far away on the ground—a black sphere that the Colonel had failed to notice earlier.
Seeing the black sphere, Colonel McLaren suddenly realized something. He lifted his foot, kicking Reno away, then lunged for the black sphere.
He didn't know what the black sphere was for, but since Reno wanted it back even in such circumstances, it must be related to his plan. Whatever it was, he couldn't allow Reno to get his hands on it.
He rushed out of the building, loudly ordering the soldiers rushing towards him, "He's inside, go get him!"
Although Nora's location had not yet been discovered, the infantry battalion had roughly analyzed Nora's position through trajectory calculations. A fierce barrage of artillery fire swept over, forcing Nora to temporarily retreat.
After all, it was just a rifle, how could it compete with an entire battalion?
Colonel McLaren stepped back a few steps, relieved.
Looking at the black sphere in his hand, he couldn't help but feel curious. What exactly was it that made him so nervous?
He held the black sphere in his hand and carefully examined it, noticing something flickering on its surface, as if...
A timer!
Colonel McLaren's heart sank as he suddenly realized something. Why didn't Reno use his ability to control objects and retrieve it?
A sense of danger surged in an instant. Colonel McLaren shouted and threw the black sphere away.
The black sphere flew in an arc in the air and landed on the ground.
Nothing happened.
Colonel McLaren breathed a sigh of relief.
Then, in the next moment, he saw the black sphere suddenly emit a buzzing sound.
The sound was strange, like bees buzzing, or like someone whispering in your ear.
At first, Colonel McLaren didn't understand, but then he reacted. His face changed drastically as he shouted, "Everyone, get down!"
Suddenly, countless black disc-shaped objects flew out of the ground around the hospital.
Spider Mines!
These were intelligent mines invented by the New Federal Government to counter the godly race and the Yark insect race, capable of automatically analyzing friend from foe based on sound and heat signatures.
And what the small black sphere emitted was the sound of the Yark insect race. It was like putting a piece of meat in front of a wolf's mouth, immediately luring all the Spider Mines out, whistling towards the black sphere.
This was the biggest flaw of the Spider Mines. Its identification system was still primitive. Due to being buried in the ground, it couldn't conduct scans and observations, only making mechanical judgments, making it easily lured out by some false information. The only way the New Federal Government solved this problem was to shorten its reaction distance as much as possible. When the lure distance exceeded a certain threshold, it wouldn't work.
This was why Reno had to bring the small black sphere in. Only at close range could the bait be effective.
This was a trick originally used by the rebellious Lakmir tribe to deal with human Spider Mines during the Polaris Battle, but was learned by Reno and used here in reverse.
Admittedly, this method was quite effective, but it was also dangerous.
Hundreds of Spider Mines swarmed over like fearless warriors.
At the moment of impact, a huge explosion deafened the ears, and even the buildings constructed with alloy steel frames trembled, the surging shockwave spreading like waves, washing over the soldiers, killing them instantly without a chance to cry out.
But this was not the end. The explosions from the Spider Mines continued to occur in succession within a short period of time, continuously accumulating. The shockwave's wave of waves received maximum power in an instant, rushing towards all directions, trees collapsed where they passed, all plants were uprooted, everything was flattened, even the sturdy building collapsed at one corner, fortunately, its special structure prevented it from collapsing completely, just leaning slightly.
Three of the surrounding bunkers were overturned, one of them facing the shockwave head-on, flames pouring into the fortress, roasting the soldiers inside in the first moment.
The power of these mines was so great that even mechs couldn't withstand their damage. Although only the lowest model of Spider Mines was buried here, the power erupted at this moment still created a huge crater on the flat ground.
Colonel McLaren was lucky not to die.
The explosion happened in the air, and the shockwave generated by the Spider Mines was highly stable. This meant that when it flew over the heads of the soldiers, there was a certain chance they could avoid it.
Colonel McLaren was lucky enough to survive this wave—he went down in time, avoiding the shockwave, leaving only a terrifying scar of heat on his back. But compared to losing his life, this was nothing.
As the shockwave passed, Colonel McLaren raised his head, seeing a mess before his eyes.
There wasn't a single person standing on the field anymore.
Whether alive or dead, they all lay on the ground, the only difference being that the living trembled with fear at the sight of what had happened, while the dead no longer had to fear.
"Reno!" Kneeling on the ground,
Colonel McLaren shouted hysterically.
Reno's figure appeared at the building, still holding his terminal.
He looked at Colonel McLaren, his gaze filled with sympathy and helplessness, shaking his head slightly. "I told you, I'm not here to surrender."
"You haven't won yet, Reno!" Colonel McLaren gritted his teeth as he stood up.
As he rose, more soldiers rushed over.
These soldiers had been stationed in various places and survived due to their dispersion. In fact, despite the fierce attack of the Spider Mines, only a few dozen soldiers had died. The First Battalion still had hundreds of soldiers, and now they were all mobilized.
Reno shook his head. "It's over."
He pointed to the sky.
Looking up, two fireballs had appeared in the sky at some point.
The fireballs fell from the sky like meteors, crashing down with tremendous force!
"Oh, my God!" Colonel McLaren exclaimed, "It's mechs! Mechs being dropped!"
Like two huge fireballs crashing towards the ground, all the soldiers scattered and fled, except for Reno, who stood calmly.
One fireball fell towards the direction of the hospital, landing on a lawn, igniting a towering flame.
Then, a giant figure, six meters tall, crawled out of the crater.
It extinguished the flames on its body, walked out of the crater, and knelt in front of the building, emitting a rumbling vibration. "Juggernaut One reporting, Commander!"
