Tianhe Base.
The battle was still raging.
After encountering the surprise attack from the Abrody, the original soldiers of the Tianhe Fleet relied on the terrain to set up layers of defenses, stubbornly resisting the attacks of the Free Hearts while awaiting reinforcements from the fleet.
This was the main reason they could hold out until now.
According to the normal sequence of war, once ground attacks entered urban warfare, battles lasting for several days or even dozens of days were quite common.
Tianhe Base wasn't large, and the number of stationed soldiers wasn't high either. However, the commanding officer, Vakiri, believed that holding out for three days would be no problem, especially since the Tianhe Fleet couldn't possibly take that long to reinforce. In fact, before communication with the base was cut off, Vakiri had received news that the Tianhe Fleet had already begun its return journey. This meant he only needed to hold out for a maximum of four hours.
Vakiri believed he could do it.
However, he had clearly underestimated the strength of the attacking force because this was a unit he had never seen before.
Command Tower.
A group of base guards were defending using the firepower of the tower, with a lot of gunfire causing billowing smoke in the distance.
"Fire! Kill those bastards! Don't spare any shells! Commander Vakiri said as long as we hold out for four hours, the fleet can come to our rescue. Pull out all the stops and hold the line!" a sergeant shouted loudly.
"Look, Commander!" A soldier suddenly pointed ahead.
Following the soldier's finger, the sergeant saw a tall soldier walking from a distance, carrying a large box towards them. Although they didn't know what the other side was up to, such a conspicuous target couldn't be ignored. He shouted back, "Take it down!"
At least four laser guns aimed at the big target simultaneously, and four beams of light shot out, hitting the big guy and leaving four charred holes in his body. However, he just glanced down, then smirked, and continued walking as if nothing had happened.
"Oh God!" The soldiers were all dumbfounded.
The big guy stopped at a clearing, opened the box he was carrying, and slowly took out a shoulder-mounted rocket launcher, aiming it forward.
Since he was close enough, from this angle, he could hit almost everything across.
The sergeant screamed hysterically, "Take him down quickly!"
One laser beam after another shot at him, almost tearing the big guy to pieces. But just before he was shattered, he pulled the trigger of the rocket launcher. A rocket flew out of the barrel, then instantly disintegrated into twelve pieces, falling in different directions.
"Duck!" The sergeant shouted frantically.
But it was too late.
In an instant, the shockwave from the exploding rockets swept through the entire tower.
At this moment, the big guy finally fell down, but he didn't die. Pieces of flesh miraculously recombined, slowly restoring his humanoid form.
However, he only managed to restore his basic form and couldn't continue. Fortunately, he wasn't alone. Four soldiers brought an emergency medical capsule, stuffed the big guy inside, patted his face, and said, "Well done, buddy."
Situations like this were unfolding all over the base, with Free Hearts warriors using their abilities to launch surprise attacks.
On top of a high-rise building, Itweir, with his Mohawk, held a sniper rifle, firing shot after shot into the distance, muttering, "Come on, you bastards, let me show you how capable I am."
His shots were accurate. At least three Free Hearts soldiers were hit by him, two lightly injured and one seriously.
Because of him, the entire street was blocked off. Due to the swift attack, the Free Hearts didn't bring many heavy weapons, so Itweir didn't even need to change positions. He just stayed in the building. But as he was about to shoot the fourth person, a voice suddenly sounded from behind him, "Hey, buddy."
Itweir turned around in astonishment, only to see a Free Hearts soldier standing behind him. But how was that possible? Behind him was the edge of the building, with no way up.
Before he could voice his doubts, he saw the soldier's gun flash, felt a pain in his chest, and fell powerless to the ground. Then he saw the soldier holstering his gun and jumping down. At the same time, it seemed that a white thread flew out from his hand, hooking onto the edge of the building, taking him down.
So that's how it is... Itweir finally understood, closed his eyes, and died.
In a corner of the living area, several soldiers had built a stronghold. Two multiple-barreled machine guns roared simultaneously, blocking the way forward with powerful firepower.
Just then, a soldier suddenly appeared and ran towards the stronghold at an incredible speed, like a beam of light. The guards at the stronghold found themselves completely unable to lock onto the target.
"What's that?" they exclaimed in horror.
"Fire! Open fire quickly!" Everyone shouted together, and all the guns aimed at the figure, but the figure was too fast, almost ghostly. A long phantom was pulled out in the air, instantly crossing the distance between the two places, and arrived at the stronghold. Throwing two grenades, he continued to run forward at full speed, leaving behind a series of booming explosions.
Turning back to look, the entire stronghold had been blown into the sky.
The soldier grinned, "Ghost reports, mission accomplished."
In another part of the living area, three or four figures were flying across the rooftops simultaneously. They moved like agile monkeys, flipping up and down between buildings, using obstacles between floors to shield themselves as they advanced. Meanwhile, on the ground, several enhanced soldiers with abilities similar to Tai Kos were relying on their powerful physique, holding machine guns and unleashing a barrage of firepower. The defending soldiers at the base looked at each other as if they had seen ghosts, unable to comprehend who they were facing.
However, more soldiers didn't even know how they died.
In a dark alley, several soldiers were hiding in the shadows, holding sniper rifles from a distance. They were focused on the front and didn't notice a dark figure emerging from the darkness behind them. Then, in three swift movements, the glint of knives flashed past, and three bodies lay on the ground.
In another room, a soldier stood firing at the window. Suddenly, he heard a noise behind him and quickly turned the gun, only to see a cat jump in through the window. He breathed a sigh of relief, turned back to the window, but as he turned, a blade sliced across his throat.
Near the dock, three soldiers were battling the Free Hearts. These soldiers were clearly seasoned veterans, precise in their shooting and coordinated in their movements, making it impossible for the Free Hearts fighters to advance. Just then, one of the soldiers paused, a moment of confusion flashing across his eyes. He looked at his comrades, raised his gun, and fired. Bang! Bang! After killing two of his comrades, the soldier slowly aimed the gun at himself and pulled the trigger...
One stronghold after another was captured like this, and the Free Hearts quickly occupied every street, alleyway, and important location.
What was once considered the most difficult and closest to a meat grinder-style battle among all forms of combat, urban warfare, had become a playground for the Free Hearts fighters to showcase their abilities. They unleashed their skills here, using various unimaginable methods to break through, assault, and occupy enemy positions, swiftly dismantling the defenses of the Tianhe Base.
Many soldiers were defeated, killed, or captured, and the remaining soldiers were retreating step by step.
It was a battle of crushing defeat.
Two and a half hours later, all the fighting ended, and the Free Hearts controlled the entire base.
They quickly changed clothes and began the occupation and disguise work of the base. They covered up the damaged areas that could be concealed and didn't worry about the ones that couldn't be hidden; they could blame it on the bio-humans—before cutting off the base's communication, a virus had sent a message to the Tianhe Fleet under the name of a base officer. The message stated that several bio-humans hadn't taken the opportunity to escape and had launched suicide attacks inside the base, causing communication malfunctions that required a temporary interruption.
To be honest, this lie was a bit far-fetched, but based on the lack of sufficient information, it was difficult for the Tianhe Fleet to imagine that the base would be attacked, especially in such a short time.
So when the Tianhe Fleet returned to the base, they were greeted with an unsurprising sudden attack. Many soldiers were captured even before they could figure out what had happened.
Standing in front of the large screen, watching everything from afar, Reno finally smiled.
"How's the casualty situation?" Reno asked.
"Injured: 138, including 24 severely injured. No fatalities," replied Inigo Laveil, the temporary commander.
"Well done, Laveil," Reno expressed his satisfaction with the report handed over by Laveil. "This is the first battle since the establishment of the Free Hearts, and it holds great significance for the organization. In the future history of the Free Hearts, Inigo Laveil will always be remembered for this battle."
This was undoubtedly the highest praise for Inigo Laveil.
Standing in front of the screen, Inigo Laveil saluted Reno from afar. "This is everyone's achievement. The battle is over, awaiting your next order."
"Count the spoils of war and evacuate from here," Reno said.
"Yes, Leader!"
This was the first time Inigo Laveil officially addressed Reno as the leader instead of the commander.
