Chapter 43

Song Yanyan's POV:

The ride to my apartment was a quiet one at first, with me sitting in the backseat next to Gramps while Mr. Grumpy Pants Wu Haoyu rode shotgun up front. I could tell the stuffy prick wasn't accustomed to having to slum it in the passenger seat, but what choice did he have? No way was I letting Gramps out of my sight after finally meeting the old badger.

We'd been on the road for a few minutes when Gramps angled his wizened face towards me, warm affection crinkling the corners of his eyes.

"I'm proud of you, my princess," he said gruffly, pride evident in his gravelly tones. "You showed remarkable poise back there in the face of such unpleasantness."

I rolled my eyes so hard they practically stuck that way.

"Grandpa, please don't call me that ridiculous nickname," I groaned in protest. "I'm not some sheltered little flower waiting to be plucked, you know."
