Chapter 94

Huang Yanyan's POV:

Wu Haoyu's grip on my back remained insistent as he propelled me towards the nearest elevator bank, putting an emphatic distance between us and the shrill screams Wang Ming was still unleashing. I allowed him to steer me along numbly, mind still reeling from the revelation about their supposed arrangement.

As the chrome elevator doors slid shut with a hushed snick, enclosing us in a small, pristine chamber, I finally found my voice again.

"So...fiancée, huh?" I drawled, aiming for nonchalance but hitting something closer to brittle accusation.

Wu Haoyu's jaw tightened fractionally as he regarded me from the corners of those intense eyes. For several beats, the air thickened with palpable tension before he spoke.

"Not exactly," he said at length in that deep, raspy timbre that never failed to make my nerves tingle. "More of a...loose verbal understanding between our families some time ago."
