A gold rank's prowess

"What!? It's only been like three minutes to me" I stated but then remembered my breakthrough to peak silver rank took five hours it was only ten minutes to me.

It was then that I remembered something, "where are your clan members?" I asked. I had noticed they weren't around the moment I was done with my break through, it's just that the fiasco about the change in appearance and all baffled me that I forgot to ask about it.

"They decided to go ahead beacause your breakthrough was taking too much time. They left about an hour ago" he replied.

"It's good they decided to go ahead. I could tell, keeping that aloof face and demeanor was killing you". His face twitched considerably especially his eye from my choice of words.

I had noticed it, ever since his clan members came, he tried to maintain an authorative aura. Owen who was the epitome of a chatter box kept his mouth shut for over five hours, only giving curt replies when asked a question.

Not to mention he was forcing his face to be expressionless, I could see minute twitches on his face that anyone with a keen eye will notice that he was barely keeping his face expressionless.

"Let's just go" he scowled.

"Fine but first...." I trailed off as my feets gently rose off the ground. So this was where the feeling of freedom came from. My entire body felt exhilarated, like I was free from all shackles and bounds.

It was true what Owen said, it felt natural, like I don't have to think or do something to walk, the same goes for flying, it's like I've always been able to do it just like I've been able to walk.

"We get it, you can fly now, so get down, we have a lot of points to catch up to" Owen said exasperatedly.

Without saying a word, I dropped to the ground, grabbed Owen's arm and zoomed behind a wall of a barely standing structure . Owen looked at me for answers "Listen" I said and gestured with my hand as we heard movements. "I knew it was only a matter of time" I whispered.

"Matter of time till what!?" he whispered back. "Till some Asuras make their way over here. Think about it, my breakthrough did cause a surge of energy in the surrounding, so obviously they would come to check anything happening in their 'territory'".

"Okay makes sense, so what do we do now, ambush them?" he asked.

"No, not yet, we have to make sure they're Asuras, after all they aren't the only ones that will come check the abnormal surge of energy. Humans are curious creatures after all and I wouldn't want to mistakenly attack a cadet beacause I sure as hell don't want to be eliminated".

Soon the sounds were getting closer, before a voice said "I know you're there pesky little humans, and I'll have a fun time tearing you piece by piece".

"All right, they're Asuras, so, what now?" he asked.

"Now we kill them of course, it's what we came here to do after all" I said and brought out my new dagger from my storage and held it in a reverse grip. "Let's go" he said with a nod and also brought out a dagger.

"You use daggers?" I asked.

"I should be the one asking, since when do you use daggers?"

"Since I wanted to" I replied as we moved from behind the wall and came face to face with the Asuras floating a little over ten meters before us. There were two of them, one in the peak gold rank and the other in mid gold rank.

"So you finally came out huh?" The peak gold ranked Asura said with a wide smile showing all his teeth". "Hehe, the master will have a good time inserting them in his event kekeke" the mid gold ranked Asura crackled.

"Which one are you taking?" I asked Owen as we also started floating off the ground. "Why do you even ask? Of course the peak gold ranked one" Owen said as a grin appeared on his face and his mid gold rank aura burst out.

"Thought so" I replied. This was simply Owen, when it comes to fights, he's a battle maniac.

As I was in my thoughts, Owen suddenly left my side and in a moment, he had clashed with the peak gold rank asurain mid air. A visible shockwave emerged from the effects of Owens dagger and the asura's bony claws.

"What are you looking at? Now it's just you and me and like I said earlier, I will have fun tearing you....." But before he could finish his ramblings, my dagger was already mid slash towards his neck. But instead of my dagger cutting flesh, a sharp "CLANG!!!" sounded followed by a shockwave pushing us apart.

"What do you think? impressive right?" the asura said pointing at his neck where a bone whit substance had grown. It still had a one centimeter deep cut where my blade had impacted but overall, the asura was fine.

"We are from the bone clan, we can grow bones from any part of our body, giving us both offence and defence and the greater our ranks, the more sturdier our bones get, hahahaha" the asura laughed after explaining it's bloodline or whatever.

But he failed to understand that in that attack, I hadn't used any bloodline abilities, only bloodline reinforcement, my flight speed and physical strength. But still it didn't do any real damage to it's so called bones.

I realized the true meaning of gold rank when I stepped into the rank, me defeating the gold rank assura during the academy attack was a fluke, infact calling it a fluke will be an understatement. It was why I almost died in El Dorado city in the hands of a gold ranked.

But I wasn't going to use my bloodline abilities, at least not yet. I wanted to feel how it was like to fight with pure skill and techniques. And I also heard the sounds and felt the shockwaves from Owen's clash not so far away. So I held my dagger a little more tightly and got ready to attack.
