chapter 2

Adeline's POV...

It was sweet how she called me sleeping beauty, who calls another person that kind of name.

She was shocked, "oh....I I'm sorry I didn't know, it was a mistake I didn't mean to call you that" she stuttered while trying to explain.

I nod at her funny gestures.

"What's.....your name.....what's your name" she asks with an awkward smile.

My name, will I really tell her. Maybe I should use a fake name. I hope I haven't said too much. She already knows my routine, telling her my real name wouldn't that mean she'll know much more now.

"You know if you won't tell me I'll just keep calling you sleeping beauty" she smirked. That's annoying...

"Adeline" I finally say, immediately regretting it. "Adeline Jones".

She smiles, and nodded "your name is as beautiful as you are, it suits you"

What?. I felt a cringe coming up but I stop it and place a small smile on my face. Is that your way of flirting? Dumb.

"I'm Maya Cyril but you can just call me Maya" she introduced herself

Sigh.....no need really, this will have to be the last time I see you. Or maybe not, she works part time here I think. I see her often, arranging books and helping people check in and out.

I decide to ask, "do you work part time here at the library?". I rub my own arm for warmth from the cold generated by the pouring rain.

She raised an eyebrow, "why do you ask?" She returned my question.

"Well I see you alot here and you're never reading, just arranging books here and there" I say thinking back to the days I've seen her.

She laughs, "seems like we are each other's stalkers" she laughs even more

My cheeks flushed as I realized I just fell into her trap, I raise both my hand as in surrendering, "no no I didn't stalk you" she just kept laughing

"I've got better things to do hmph!" I fold my arms.

Didn't even know she was laying trap for me, you're the stalker here. Creep.

"The rain has reduced" she says while looking outside. I listen to the sound of the rain drops and watched the speed it uses to come down, indeed, it's stopping.

"This was nice" she says out of the blue.

What was ?

"Talking to you and all that. It's nice, it's nice to meet you Adeline" said Maya, she looks at me and smiles.

I gulp. Not sure if I could say the same, after all I come to the library in order to avoid meeting up with people.

I say nothing to reply her.

"We best move now before the rain comes up again" she stands up and pick her helmet. I follow suite, grabbing my umbrella.

She pushed her motorcycle, walking with me through the drive thru. She hops on her bike

"Common ill give you a ride" she offered

I shake my head, " no need I can get off here on my own".

Her helmet was blocking her face and I couldn't see if she was disappointed or neutral, in other words I can't see what she's thinking.

There's no way I'm letter her know the direction to my home. I don't know what kind of person she is and if she has ulterior motives against me.....I'll have to play it safe.

"Seriously, what if the rain starts pouring heavily again besides it's not cool for a girl to walk on the street at night like this on her own" said Maya.

She's trying to convince me, doesn't that mean she wants to try something bad?, She's giving me reasons I can't walk on my own, I'll have to decline.

"It's okay, I'll handle myself. I'm kinda skilled when it comes to fighting, no worries" I smile and reply.

She removes her helmet, I see her eyes carrying worry

"Are you sure?" She asked me and I nod

"You kept me company today it's really the least I can do for you, it won't hurt me" she added

"I said I'm okay I'll manage on my own", she doesn't have to pretend to care, it's revolting. Just drive on already .

"You .....don't want me knowing where you live", uh oh shes seen right through me.

How can I deny it now, I lower my umbrella letting it cover my face.

"Alright, you've got trust issues. It's okay I understand, if you can manage then I'll let you" . She cranks up up engine and drives away.

I sigh in relief, she seemed angry. Anyways it's a good thing, now she won't speak to me again. I'll have to stop coming here to the library for a while, who knows what else she knows about me.

She definitely was stalking me, she might be one of the people my uncle has sent to keep an eye on me. I can never trust no one, I'll change tactics or maybe leave this city but do I have enough cash ?....

Fortunately, the rain continued to reduce and I got home safely. I open my doors and I'm greeted by the sullen face of my cat kiki.

He's sitting next to his food bowl. He lets out a low growl

"Oh my kiki you must have been hungry" I pick up the food bowl. He meowed, kind of like he was saying "you think" in his own sarcastic way.

I pour his food down and watch him gobble it up. I reach out and pet his head earning a scratch from him.

I grunt, why do I even bother. Loving you and you can't love me back.

I throw my bag on the couch and heat up left over pasta. Kiki and I share the kitchen counter to eat our dinners.

I sigh thinking back to Maya Cyril, if that's even her real name.

"I met someone today" I said to kiki and he purred.

"It's a girl and no I don't like her, she acts very suspicious. We talked a lot today" I continue. Kiki meowed at me, grabs his food bowl by the mouth and goes away from the kitchen counter.

I stare unbelievably at the soul I suffer to feed each day, can't even listen to my troubled story. What a sassy cat.

"You ungrateful kiki!" I yell at him from a distance and he meowed back.

It felt like he was telling me to go get a boyfriend to listen to my stories.

I sigh in defeat, I could never win when it came to kiki.
