I woke up feeling energized. I admit the noise I made was stupid. Yes,so stupid that my guardian frowned. My guardian is basically the man who took care of me when I first appeared here. He gave me all the basic information about the spirit . Could you believe that if you weren't him I wouldn't even know my name was Eileen. He used up most of his power to help me regain my lost memory.
He goes by the name Merari or as I like to call him,The Keeper. He initially orientated me when I arrived as a newbie. Surprised?,yep I was too.
The keeper placed both indexes in his ears.
" Would you quit singing on top of your voice?. You sound like a toad at birth. Is it so difficult for the dead like me to rest in peace?" he irritatedly asked.
Well ,he saying that meant I had really gone out of control. Several minutes later I managed to calm down.
" Why would you sing so early this morning?.Trust me, if I find out it's for a silly reason my peace was ruined I swear I'm going to have to give you The SLEEP" he lamented. I knew what was best for me. I did not want to be given The SLEEP - a special curse the Keeper invented for me, a curse to tame me when I became stubborn, a curse made to put me to sleep for a month or two to silence me- especially when the fault was extreme.
" Well" I started " You know the young boy whom I told you about?, the boy who could see me but suddenly disappeared 11 years ago, he has returned ".
" Your reason is at least pleasing to the ear. Yes, what about him? he asked, urging me on.
" Well, he came yesterday and explained the reason behind this disappearance. I'm actually expecting him today" I concluded.
The Keeper gave me a stern look. The look meant he was about to give me a lengthy piece of advice. I braced myself for it.
" Listen" he started " I know you are young and naive. I'm glad you found some sunshine in your life, BUT" , there was a long pause as he took in a deep breath.
" But,try not to fall in love with the young man. This love isn't entirely wrong but you know the complications it comes along with. We both how Laura - A ghost 5 years older than I. She fell in love with a human who couldn't care less about her existence because she was invisible - was and is now".
" I'm doing nothing wrong. And I never said I like him. I'm just happy to have someone to talk to after being here for 30 years" ,I retorted.
" You should be grateful among all things that he can see you. I'm not sure he knows your name. You barely even know your name " I frowned when he said those words.
" Obviously, with the look on your face" he continued," I can tell that you don't even know his name"
" Right, I forgot to ask him about it". The Keeper gave me an ' I know everything look' as I said the words.
" I'm leaving" I told him, bowing to show my respect. He gestured me to leave which I did. I wasn't going to allow him kill my happy mood.
...............
The young man came as he said he would. He came with a bag in his hands.
" What are those?" I asked
" These are your clothes. I mean clothes for you to change"
" You seem to be forgetting that I'm a ghost and I can't actually hold objects yet" I made him aware if the facts.
He looked at me and smiled. From the back he took out a metal bowl and some clothes I'd seen most humans wear but never really bothered to ask about. He dropped some clothes in the bowl and lighted it. The clothes burned out. Instead of turning to ashes they somehow appeared on me. Smart kid but what the hell was I wearing?. I freaked out when I saw what was on me. I had never revealed so much skin. Never. The top was short sleeved. It held firm to my bust leaving my tummy exposed. I was also in jeans with length which ended right at the end of my butt.
" What on freaking earth is this?!" I asked him.
" We're in the modern century. That's a crop top and shorts, made by my very hands. By the way you have quite the body" he winked, complimenting me.
" Hell no!.There's no way I'm wearing this out. It's way to uncomfortable" I said
" Chill babe, no one can see you Plus I have the advantage of being the only one to peer at this body " he sized me up. The audacity. Wasn't he aware that the other ghosts could see me?.
" Cut it out. Change the outfit" I pleaded, battering my lashes as much as I could.
" Alright" he replied,defeated.
He dropped another set of clothes into the bowl and lighted it.
" Much more comfortable". I was in a black set of clothes that covered my arms, had some sort of protection on my head and had tiny pockets in the front. It came along with a matching below and a footwear that covered the whole of my feet.
" And what is this called?" I wanted to know.
" A hoodie, skinny jeans and sneakers. Another collection from yours faithfully" he pointed at himself, bowing with another wink. I giggled, appreciating his efforts to make me smile. I tried bringing up the topic of his name but he beat me to it.
" I never really asked you for your name since we had little time. I'm Skylar Tawan, 21,leader of the basketball team in Oxford and final year student . I see beyond normal" he introduced .
Okay, not bad. I admit I wasn't surprised when he claimed he was a team leader. I mean look at him, absolute perfection.
" Almost forgot. I'm in the faculty of computer engineering" he added.
" And I'm Eileen. 18, I presume from the little fragments of memories I recollect. I was a cardiac patient and died about 30 years ago, I think" I needed with years almost visible in my eyes.
" Well, that's sad to hear. Do you mean you don't remember anything from your past life?, not even your full name?"
" Yes" I replied " I know I died from a cardiac arrest"
" And I know one thing. You don't know how you died" he said
" What are you implying?"
" From what I know, ghosts don't move on to the afterlife because if three reasons. It's either because they died before their time, they don't know how they died or they had no one to assist them to the afterlife. I've got the power to feel and see,so I'm sure you don't know how you died"
Okay this guy had to be joking . Did he just make me question my entire existence as a ghost?. He wasn't even making sense. I wasn't going to believe him.
" So you're saying, according to your senses, I don't know how I died?" I asked
" Yep. You don't" he replied as swiftly as I'd thrown the question at him. He looked at his watch. I knew he was about to leave
" I've got to go. I won't be here this week or the next I've got exams and a basketball match but I'll be here the week after the next he explained to me. I meekly nodded my head as he started running to the exit .
" See you soon" he waved before leaving
