Evicted by landlord

Ophelia stared at Connor warily, her tone tinged with slight annoyance. "You're not the agreed-upon person. Why didn't you notify me in advance at the café?"

Glancing at Connor's attire, which matched exactly what he had described as "Connor," Ophelia didn't dwell much on it and assumed he was indeed the person she had arranged to meet.

However, now Ophelia was starting to feel she might have been too trusting. Some things needed careful verification.

Connor gazed at Ophelia and said softly, "From what I've observed, you and your online friend haven't discussed any plans for marriage, have you?"

Ophelia nodded. "No."

"In that case, do you think they'd readily agree to marry you? Pretending to be a boyfriend to handle family matters might work, but who would just casually produce a marriage certificate? Only someone like me, who happens to fit your needs, would agree to such a sudden idea," Connor said, his eyes fixed on Ophelia. "It seems there's some sort of fate between us."

After a moment of contemplation, Ophelia seemed to realize this.

The person claiming to be "Connor" might have only agreed to temporarily play the role of her boyfriend, but the likelihood of actually obtaining a marriage certificate seemed slim, eventually leading to an awkward situation.

In comparison, cooperating with Connor seemed more fitting. After all, she wasn't very familiar with either him or the "Connor" she had initially contacted comfortably through WeChat.

Since they were both strangers, finding someone to cooperate with was enough; there was no need for many demands.

Ophelia gazed at Connor. "Mistaking you for my boyfriend was my oversight... But why are you here now?"

Connor glanced at Ophelia faintly. "Today marks our first day of marriage. I feel we're better off together."

Shaking her head, Ophelia replied, "We'd better clarify some things. I'm getting married just to appease my family, and you, perhaps, have similar motives. Since we're both getting married for other reasons, how could we possibly be like those who marry for love?" Ophelia became serious. "We only need to contact each other when necessary; otherwise, there's no need for further interaction. You carry on with your life, and I'll carry on with mine, unrelated."

After considering the implications of this fake marriage, Ophelia began to sort things out.

This was merely a collaboration; there was no need to involve two strangers further.

She had plenty of things to do and didn't want to be delayed by these trivial matters.

Listening to Ophelia's words, Connor nodded. "You're right, but we don't know each other yet. Acting in front of family could go wrong. We need time to get to know each other."

Ophelia paused for a moment. "Indeed, if we're going to act, we need to do it properly. We need time to understand each other."

Ophelia's mind was in turmoil now, with many things to sort out. Connor nodded. "But it's late now; let me take you back!" He gazed at Ophelia again. "I only know your name is Ophelia. It's on the way, and I'd like to know some details... It won't take much of your time, will it?"

Ophelia didn't refuse after hearing Connor's words, so she went with him to the place she rented.

Renting in the city was quite expensive, and Ophelia definitely couldn't afford it alone, so she chose to share with some college classmates.

As they arrived at the entrance of the apartment complex, Ophelia bid farewell to Connor and got out of the car.

There was no need to invite Connor inside just yet.

But as she walked to her door, the landlord Brittany was standing there, looking rather stern.

Addressing Brittany, Ophelia asked, "What's going on, landlady? Why are you blocking the door?" She didn't understand why the landlord was blocking her way.

Brittany assumed a haughty posture. "The room you're staying in has expired, and there's a new tenant who has already paid. You better move your stuff out today!"

Ophelia was taken aback. "Didn't I already say I wanted to renew? How could you just rent it out to someone else?"

Ophelia found the place quite comfortable to stay in, so why was the landlord kicking her out now?

Finding a new place would take a lot of time and effort, not to mention the hassle of moving!

"The house is mine, and I'll rent it to whoever I want!" Brittany sneered at Ophelia. "And I don't appreciate your pretentiousness. I kindly introduced my son to you, and you actually rejected him!"

Ophelia understood why the landlord wanted her out now.

It was because she had rejected Brittany's son, who spent all day playing games at home!

Knowing the landlord was determined to kick her out, Ophelia said, "It's late now; can you wait until I find a new place? I need time to pack my things!"

The landlord stared at Ophelia without compromise. "You must move out immediately. The new tenant has already paid the rent and will move in tomorrow morning!"

She glanced at Ophelia again. "Of course, if you can come to terms with my son and get along with him, I might consider giving you more time! Hmph, a girl from out of town, what qualifications do you have to aim high? I own three properties here, and my son can choose any girl he likes. If he chose you, it's your good fortune."

Ophelia was speechless. She was being threatened with the landlord's son? She said angrily, "I'll move out tonight!"

Such a person doesn't even deserve further words, it's best to leave immediately!

However, where should she move to tonight?

She's been working hard here alone, with few acquaintances, only Anna. But troubling Anna now seems inappropriate.

As for other acquaintances... Ophelia doesn't want to bother them either.

Just as Ophelia was feeling conflicted about this, she suddenly heard a male voice behind her say, "Move in with me!"

She turned around to see Connor standing behind her, surprised as she exclaimed, "How come you're here again?"

Didn't he just leave? How did he suddenly appear here?

And he arrived just in time for the embarrassing situation of her being kicked out by the landlord!
