Chapter 172

"Oh that was an amazing match! I'm looking forward to the next game tomorrow!" Holding a stack of board games, Kurai walked over to one of the tables in the office and placed them down neatly.

Sitting at his desk, Kurai's colleague looked up at the green-haired man with a frown. "Get back to work, you've been slacking lately. All this talk about golf, soccer, and basketball, you're hardly making any progress!"

"I know... I know... it's just- why can't we have some fun?"

"You can but when times are rough you gotta get your act together!"

Kurai crossed his arms and slumped on the chair, "What are you talking about? I am getting my act together! Why is everyone so fussy this week?" The green-haired man watched the rest of his buddies walking into different rooms with the same type of expression as Akito who was staring at his computer screen like a robot. What was so magnificent about that? He's hardly getting anything done too.

Both Akagi and Chachamaru stepped into the room, discussing about the events that happened in Rome about half a year ago. He sat up and listened to their conversation, it intrigued him and he wondered if there was anything else he could add.

"Well apparently, there was a strange light that engulfed the entire city for a while before vanishing. Locals claimed a large swan-like creature did it. All the damages were repaired in an instant." Akagi took a sip of his coffee and watched Akito typing something on his computer.

Chachamaru scratched his left ear. "That was Jeremiah. Another angel that came here to help us defeat Ryukushu. In fact he and Douma were the ones who defeated that demon and retrieved the three weapons he had stolen."

"I know but given the emergence of all these creatures I fear that there are other things we need to worry about. Remember our encounter with that ruthless entity who killed some of our comrades back at Twin Island? He's still out there and it's only a matter of time until another threat emerges with a similar motive."

The large feline glanced at Akagi. His explanation was solid and it's great that he brought up these key factors. Everyone resorted to celebrations while the threat continues to lurk around. The Chaos wants them to get distracted.

Furthermore, Chachamaru couldn't let this slip off his mind, he was on the entity's list of potential hosts. Nothing has happened so far, but he can't help but feel he was being watched since the first few months of the year. It was affecting his concentration and stamina during training and missions.

Kurai spun around in confusion. He lifted a brow and strolled towards Akagi and Chachamaru. "A bright light? What bright light are you guys talking about? There wasn't any light and maintenance going on."

The two of them exchanged puzzled looks with each other, Akito rolled his chair backwards and stared at Kurai who was starting to feel uncomfortable by their reactions.

"Kurai, you were there the whole time. How could you not have seen it? The light covered the entire city." Akagi questioned.

"I swear there was nothing like that!"

"This has got to be a joke." Chachamaru commented in disbelief.

"Absolutely not you guys are the ones making all these jokes. A giant bird? Are you all out of your minds? No such thing exists on this planet, not anymore I should say. This is all a fever dream that I don't wanna be a part of."

This man was getting on Chachamaru's nerves, before the feline could say something Akito frantically stood up from his seat and approached Kurai who seemed lost in this whole conversation.

"A lot of people lost their memories after the light appeared. So even though they were physically present at Trastevere they don't recall seeing a large swan or a bright light that restored the city."

"Yeah I heard about that too but still there are witnesses. We even have proof there's footage." The silver-haired man insisted.

"But there's no bird in any of them. Almost half of the population claimed to have never seen one at all. They're willing to believe that a bright light appeared but not the presence of a feathered creature prior to that incident. So it still remains a mystery despite the evidence circulating around."

Chachamaru sighed and placed his palm on his forehead, "Oh yeah we forgot about something important. Cameras and other technological equipment can't detect angels."

Kurai scratched his head. "Huh? Is that true?"

"Oh come on why would I make this up? They're from a completely different dimension you don't see them taking selfies with anyone."

Everyone watched the output displayed on the screen. Akito sat back on his chair and began typing again.

"That doesn't mean a large bird was in the city."

Akito stopped typing and shot Kurai a glare, "Tch. Are you even paying attention?" The man growled at Kurai who was startled by his sudden flare.

"We're literally friends with an angel. Stop being slow." Chachamaru raised his voice, leaving Kurai a shuddering mess.

"Oh right my bad!" Kurai said, looking around fearfully. He hoped Douma wasn't around in the office, he'd be disappointed to hear that his own comrades had overlooked on his presence.

Akito clicked on several files on his computer, revealing some important details about the world's response to the footage of the bright light and the existence of the large swan that caused it. The information was hopeful yet off-putting at the same time. Despite being a hot topic its position to the general public was still stagnant.

"Given the lack of basis to support the claims and origin, a majority of nations have decided not to declare the incident as a legitimate case anytime soon." Reading the sentence out loud, Akito took a deep breath and sat back in silence.

"Whatever at least Jeremiah isn't some maniac so we have nothing to worry about." Chachamaru casually responded.

"Since the three weapons have been returned to that old building on the mountain we can push this case to one side and move on to the next." Taking another sip of his coffee, Akagi took a closer look at Akito's screen. The man immediately navigated to another section of his folders clicking on the files to open up several documentations.

Taking a step closer to Akito's screen, Chachamaru squinted his eyes at the images and glanced at Akagi who was standing beside him. "Yeah this next one's tricky. We have little to no information about it. This is like trying to find the missing puzzle piece that doesn't even exist. Great, just great."
