Decision and the Waiting Game

Sarah walked into the laboratory, feeling a mix of emotions. The fluorescent lights overhead seemed to hum with anticipation, casting an eerie glow over the sterile white surfaces. She had been waiting for this moment for what felt like an eternity. Looking at Dusty by her side, she gave his hand a gentle squeeze and walked toward the back of the room.

Dr. Mullins and Dr. Marchant were standing at a table, surrounded by various equipment and contraptions that looked like they belonged in a sci-fi movie. Dr. Mullins looked up at her with a serious expression, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he furrowed his brow.

"Good morning Sarah," Dr. Marchant said, her smile wide.

Dr. Mullins added, "Sarah, it is great to see you, how are you feeling today?"

"I feel really good, a little nervous I guess but anxious to hear the results." She replied.

"Sarah, we've made some good progress," Dr, Mullins said, his voice low and measured. "The test on the zombies were successful. We're ready to move forward."

Dr. Marchant nodded in agreement, her curly brown hair bobbing up and down as she did so. "But we need to be cautious. Remember, we don't know, for sure, if it will work on you."

Sarah's eyes widened with excitement as she took in the details of the laboratory. She had always been fascinated by the science behind the zombie virus, and she couldn't help but wonder what secrets these two brilliant scientists might be hiding.

"What do you mean?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Dr. Mullins explained, "We made this serum by using your blood, we looked for things that were different than the other zombies, that's how we were able to figure out what to extract. We want to try the serum on you, we think it should work the same but we want you to understand the risks. If it works, we can move forward with the next phase of the experiment, but if it doesn't we are back at the start for you."

Dr. Marchant added, "We need to be careful. We don't know if you'll react to it the same way as the other zombies."

Sarah's heart was racing with excitement as she listened to their words. She had been waiting for this moment for so long, and she was determined to see it through.

"I agree to do it," she said finally, her voice firm.

Dr. Mullins nodded, his eyes lighting up with enthusiasm. "Good. We'll need to take some of your blood now, so we have it so we can compare it to your blood after the injection." It will show how what has changed and hopefully point us in the direction we need to go.

Sarah nodded, feeling a sense of trepidation wash over her as she watched Dr. Mullins expertly draw a vial of blood from her arm.

As they prepared the injection, Sarah couldn't help but feel a sense of nervousness. She was a zombie, but she had control over her emotions and intelligence. She was scared of what might happen if she lost control.

But Dr. Mullins reassured her, "Don't worry, Sarah. We'll be here for you every step of the way."

Dusty, sitting beside her, whispered softly, "I'm here for you, no matter what happens, you know I will be here.

Smiling at Dusty, she nodded for them to proceed with the injection.

After the injection, Sarah was instructed to go about her daily routine for three days. Each day she was to come in to the lab and they would take a sample of her blood and would continue to monitor her progress. Dusty promised to be with her every step of the way.

"I'll be with you every day," he said, his eyes filled with concern as he looked at her. "We'll go shopping, and we'll hang out together. Whatever it take, I won't leave your side."

Sarah felt a sense of relief wash over her as she smiled at Dusty. She knew that she could count on him.

As they left the laboratory, Sarah felt a sense of excitement mixed with fear. She didn't know what would happen in the next three days.

But she was ready to face whatever came her way.

As they walked back to their house, Sarah couldn't help but think about the future. If this worked, would she finally be able to live a normal life?

Only time would tell...

Back in the laboratory, Dr. Mullins and Dr. Marchant were busily analyzing the data from Sarah's injection. They were discussing their findings when suddenly, a mouse scurried out from under a nearby table.

The mouse's beady eyes darted around the room as it sniffed out food scraps on the floor. Dr. Mullins chuckled as he watched the mouse scurry around.

"I never thought I'd see the day," he said to Dr. Marchant. "A mouse taking over our laboratory."

Dr. Marchant laughed, shaking her head. "I think we've got more pressing concerns than a mouse taking over our lab."

Dr. Mullins nodded in agreement as they continued their analysis.

Before zombies, they were concerned about rats and mice getting into the lab and the risk that it caused.

Dr. Marchant looked over, "Andrew, don't you miss the days when the worst thing we had to worry about was that a mouse or a rat might get loose in the lab and we would have to try to catch it."

Dr. Mullins replied, "Ya, I would take a mouse or two over that zombie we have in the back room."

"Let's hope this works for Sarah, if it does, and if her blood changes like we think it will, she may be the cure for this whole dam problem."

Back at their home, Sarah and Dusty updated William and Samantha on what had taken place and they all cheerfully sat down at the table to play cards and enjoy some home made cookies.

Sarah feel asleep that night with one thing on her mind, three more days.
