La Débutante
Show yourself to the world and don't get yourself captured (or killed)
Award: 500 000 exp, 500 credits, ? , ?
Just to be sure, I [Deep Scan] Hisa when she was asleep - to really get all the info. Especially about the building. I wanted a perfect map and no surprises. Really get to know all the side-kicks and their quirks. Come up with the perfect path to take.
Which brings me here. Time minus five minutes. Not that the time is extra important, it's my timetable after all. I gave Tomura an approximate time as well, to do whatever he has planned. I don't really care about him but he better leave me be for some time after this.
My [Battle Lust] is bubbling up but otherwise I'm calm, going over my steps and my gear. I wanted the heroes to see my Maledicta face so I have chosen Bone Circlet in the end. Complimenting that is my 'spare' armor – not my Mark VIII, but Stealth II. It's black, to suit the character, and it's lighter and prettier. Still badass though. And the Stats are a bit different but still excellent, just in another way. Cue the name.
Looking at the little countdown System has whipped up for me, I hum. Well, no time like the present.
My planned entrance is the roof. Ryukyu, being a dragon and all, has a landing pad which suits me well. I don't really want anyone to notice me before I really start so my path up is carefully prepared and I make use of every stealth Skill in my possession. For the flight I switch my headgear too, Thief's Cowl for that stealth bonus.
I don't really have any idea if I made it unseen or not but as soon as my feet tough the landing pad, I'm off to the door that will take me to the top floor.
The Agency is the only thing in this eight-story building so I have free reign. The top floor has Ryukyu's office, a waiting room, a conference room and that's pretty much it. Then there are three floors for her side-kicks and a gym, leaving the bottom two and the atrium for the 'civilian' workers and the reception. I don't really plan on going through the entire building, that would defeat the purpose. Plus I don't want to kill Hisa, I like her. The sidekicks and hero-reputation are my targets this afternoon.
A vampire in the daylight, I hope they don't question it overly much. But since they think it's a quirk, I think I'm ok. Plus it's overcast today. Might even be a storm later.
My [Presence Detection] pings off only two people with me on the top floor, like I hoped/expected. I want to start mayhem once I go one floor down so right now it's still sneaky time.
Ah, so the receptionist and one other. Not a side-kick. Ah well, sucks to be him.
The duo, the secretary and the man, who is sweet on her, awww, make their way to the kitchenette. Which suits me perfectly as I can take them out where there is no surveillance. Well, electronic surveillance, who knows with quirks.
Neither sees me coming.
Taking both their lives, one with [Mind Thief] and one with [Stat Steal], I claim my first two victims of my planned massacre. I take the 1 WIS off the man, and a new Skill from the woman. A really handy Skill that lets me learn any language provided I kiss a speaker. Weird, huh? Seems like System just copied her quirk. Anyway, to add to the show I bite into the secretary, this time not worrying about leaving fluid behind, and tear the man's throat out with the claws I grew thanks to my shape-shifting.
Claws and fangs. Classic. The blood splatter on the wall is a nice touch too.
Ok so, it's time to begin for real. From my Inventory I bring out my little invention, loving that versatility of the Engineer, that will bring down any and all electronics in the building. From elevators to computers or cameras, nothing will work. The phones should work, which is my design. After all, there is no show without an audience.
Positioning myself near the stairs, and pinging the people on the seventh floor, I press down the button.
Not waiting for the angry and confused shouts and comments, I use [Enhanced Movement] and start culling the herd.
The first side-kick is dead before anyone knows anything is wrong. Having the time I decide to steal his 1 STR before biting down right onto his jugular.
One man down, I take on another, smirking at his slow speed compared to mine. He gets claws to the throat so I can move on quickly. There are twelve people on this floor and I want it clear before complete chaos sets in.
My first real obstacle is side-kick number four. A ninja-themed hero that apparently can use shadow-stitching which he uses to halt my movement and immobilize me. Something two of his colleagues want to capitalize on. Unfortunately for them though, I can use my Skills perfectly fine.
I have to tank an energy beam of some kind with my [Barrier] before I can [Grasp Heart] the ninja, freeing me up to deal with loser number three who swings at me with a katana. He gets my teeth.
Six more to go though one ran out the bullpen, presumably to get reinforcements. I got to speed up.
Claws to the man on my right, [Grasp Heart] to the one that was readying some kind of souped-up fireball. Then evasion, evasion, evasion, as another side-kick comes at me lightening fast. With real lightening too. Him I [Slam] onto the ceiling and them back down before dragging him to myself and impale him on my claws.
Those heroes here have to go, I don't want the others to know about my telekinetic abilities. No witnesses here.
I can hear the shouts and the screams, from this level and all of downstairs. Mayhem has well and truly grasped this building. Faster. I have to go even faster.
I already see the first hero reinforcements so I [Shadowport] behind one of the current batch and bite through his throat, using him as a shield for the bullets fired at me by another side-kick. And apparently, movies lie, the shots penetrate the slowly bleeding out man but also strike me. Well, strike my [Barrier].
Two [Stat Steals] and some claw action, I have in front of me a new squad, all fired up to take me down.
The hero in front definitely does not anticipate me ramming him with all my speed, getting a hold of the woman behind him and flinging her out of the window. The reinforced glass shatters all the same, letting the hero fall. It's seven stories down but she has some defensive quirk. She might even make it.
My [Battle Lust] is singing – this is what I'm living for. A bit disturbing, something I need to control but hey, not even dungeons compare to this. These opponents are strong. And I'm stronger and taking them out with relative ease. This pride, this euphoria – definitely a first.
Side-kicks with physical quirks are nothing to me, with my speed, agility and [Spidey Sense], they are just exp to be harvested. It is those with the more esoteric skills that I have to watch out for.
Like this one. Thankfully Hisa knows him well which means so do I. The Haiku Hero is a fearsome foe, side-kick only because of his young age. He can manifest things if he composes a haiku for it. Hisa told me how he caught a strong villain by manifesting chains around him that he could not break.
But that won't happen to me, I am prepared. Spotting him to the back of the huddle of heroes, opening his mouth, I go right for him and have him insta-killed via [Grasp Heart].
With Spidey-sense tingling, I throw myself to the side, avoiding a net?!, and Shadowport behind the group, attacking them from behind with my claws and Mind Mage Skills.
I need to be careful about my time – it won't be long until the big names come for me.
Time to introduce some more chaos to the mix. I smirk and summon a swarm of bats. Their high-pitch squealing and disorganized flying, along with the sheer number of them, makes the heroes a bit more frantic and confused.
Such a shame that Ryukyu prefers physical quirks in her side-kicks. But that might save some of them as I throw some more out of the windows to make room for myself. [Induce Fear] helps a lot too.
Though I do break the illusion a little when one of the side-kicks tries to use a cross on me instead of his quirk and I laugh my ass off.
Leaving him with the cross wedged in his eye and a slashed throat, I focus on the surprisingly few enemies.
That is my first clue the pace is about to change.
The second clue is a rabbit girl doing a pretty awesome impression of Mighto Gai's dynamic entry.
Rabbit Hero: Mirko, huh? Didn't know she was in town. A bit too muscular for my tastes but cute. And dangerous, she's not a top hero for nothing. Number 5 in Japan, I think. And definitely one of the fastest with her DEX over 300. I gotta be careful.
"So this is the dreaded vampire, huh? I guess you look the part" the rabbit hero gives me the first hero banter in my career.
I have no intention of responding, I don't want any profiler dissecting what I say. Instead I just hiss at Mirko, fangs on display.
"Not the talkative sort, huh? Or not wanting to talk with your mouth full?"
Ok, that was funny. I give her a smirk for that, she earned it.
With me being so nice, I'm a little surprised that she attacks me right after speaking. Another powerful kick is aimed at my body which I use only [Enhanced Movement] to dodge. Another fun option would be the [Aversion Field], letting her slip past me and fling her somewhere. But I'll save that, there is no need to use it yet when my pure physicality is ok for now.
Mirko doesn't let her miss bother her and hops to the side even faster that her attack was, circling me and attacking my flank.
This is just a testing round, I can feel that, but I am especially curious to see what the plan is. Relying on my instincts and my boosts like [Evasion Stance] and [Spidey Sense], I use some of my focus to look into her mind.
Oh? Eraser Head laying in wait? Smart – she is the distraction and the teacher can ambush me with his nullification quirk and go for capture. But it looks like Aizawa is lagging a bit behind, good strategy, making me engage Mirko fully and miss him getting into position.
I withdraw from her mind just in time to better doge yet another kick, a drop kick this time, that shatters the concrete floor of the building. WTF? Collateral damage much? Definitely different than the side-kicks, those were respectful to the environment.
Now we have to maneuver around the hole, fun. But I guess that also opens up another place my enemies can get me – from below.
You know what? I'm going a floor down.
But not before summoning a veritable swarm of bats, half flying towards Mirko and the other half down with me where I expect to find Eraser Head. Him I have to take out fast, I don't want him to 'nullify' my quirk and come up empty, that would be giving him unnecessary information. Nope, he's got to go.
Unfortunately for him, I know about his quirk from the anime. It's all about the eyes. He has protective goggles but that is laughable protection from me.
There! Aizawa!
I throw two smoke bombs, one back to Mirko that got slowed by the bats only minimally, and one towards my current target.
Both evade, the cloud not being big enough. Shuks. Well, how about this.
The rabbit hero attacks me again but this time I do not evade and turn into mist instead. A pretty new ability but I trained it up for this.
My mist form definitely surprises Mirko but she's a professional, not letting that phase her in the slightest. Good thing that wasn't all that I have planned. Oh no, I know all about her amazing, read sensitive, hearing. And I've got just the device for her.
Just as she passes me I throw my little trap, unleashing a short-range but absolutely devastatingly loud and high-pitched directed sound wave. With my perfect timing, the rabbit is caught in the 'blast'.
The mighty number 5 hero shouts in pain and falls, her equilibrium shot for the moment.
I go to finish her but Aizawa is in my way again. He isn't as fast and agile as Mirko, but he is definitely one of the top heroes there. Dammit.
His hair begins to stand up, telling me he's activating his quirk, but I duck behind a concrete pillar. He uses his scarf to pull himself closer but he doesn't know about another one of my abilities – the [Shadowport].
Kudos to Eraser Head for reacting quickly when I catch him from behind, but that won't save him. I got my grip now and he doesn't have enough DEX or STR to get away from me.
It's a split second decision but I use [Mind Thief] as I sink my fangs into where his neck meets the shoulder. This hadn't been my plan at all, Aizawa is one of my favorite heroes in the show. But then… fuck the show! I shouldn't feel shackled by canon or the notion of favorites. I'll be leaving this world once I complete my main quest and I'm probably not coming back. And his quirk is interesting, I'm curious if it will translate into other worlds.
The deed is done, Eraser Head, the future homeroom teacher of the protagonist's class is no more.
I slash his throat for good measure and go for Mirko who is still unsteady, looking about to throw up.
"You fucking…"
She's not as fast now, easily caught.
With my pride being at all time high for killing Eraser Head I don't go at her with my ranged Skills such as [Grasp Heart] which proves to be a mistake.
I only gape as her powerful legs go through concrete again, this time a pillar that goes right at me. I evade easily but the pillar proves to be only a distraction as Mirko kicks again, making another hole in the floor.
Catching myself easily with [Flight] I plan to bring down retribution to Mirko only to find her gone.
What?
My gaze is dragged towards where a window used to be. Son of a… She fucking retreated? Mirko? Did I not remember her character well? Or was she simply more injured than I thought?
Huh. Whatever. Anyway, I think I caused enough mayhem and it's time to retreat. It looks the building has been evacuated and I…
Fuck. I grimace when my neck suddenly constricts. No, not constricts, is constricted, by the threads of my own clothes' collar.
Best Jeanist.
Lucky for me I don't have that much fabric on me with my armor and all, and that I have my [Gamer's Body]. Which basically means I am choking a little but that only makes me lose HP but not anything else.
Lose HP. Lose HP! That fucker actually got to my life points?!
Dissolving into mist means the fiber hero's power over me is lost. Fucker. I'm not taking that laying down. My [Battle Lust] roars, eager to tear the hero apart for his audacity.
What's stopping me? I mean really?
I'm stronger than I thought – I got caught up in the myth of the heroes and the anime, but my Mind Mage is OP. Please don't ever nerf. I mean I can squeeze the hero's very heart from several feet away. Who can survive that except for some freaks like All Might with his freak body and some few heroes with some kind of mutation.
Best Jeanist fails the Stat check and crumples to the ground, the fibers he has woven into a web abound me falling uselessly to the ground.
Well, that wasn't as satisfying as I thought. Maybe conventional fighting is better after all. Or is it that my [Battle Lust] is fighting with my WIS?
Whatever, he's dead and there are more heroes on the way for sure. I'm out. But first… I did say something about tearing that blond fucker apart.
Yeah, I think I am past that B level I was aiming for… That was why I was holding back. Oops. But I did expect the heroes to be better. Ah well, I worked hard for all those Skills and Stats, I simply worked better with what I have. You should've trained more, heroes.
Deciding not to hide what I can do anymore I activate my [Flight] back and take the most direct route out of the building.
BANG!
An armor-piercing sniper round impacts my [Barrier], almost shattering it. My [Spidey Sense] warned me and my high agility reacted immediately, but I took the bullet anyway. That means this is the work of Snipe and his quirk.
But he didn't get at my HP yet, so he's safe. Before I can take another bullet, I drop down, letting him lose line of sight.
Which was probably a bad choice since Ectoplasm is guarding the perimeter and he is partnered with Snipe much like Aizawa and Mirko were. Well, sucks to be him since with my [Observe] I spot the original, not anywhere around me but way back and hidden, letting his clones do the work.
Clones, something that will come in handy.
At the risk of repeating myself, sucks to be him.
New Skill Acquired!
Clones (Active)[Level 1] – Makes a fragile clone with its mind connected to the user - 5000 MP/min
Yeah, enough. I'm out. This time for real. I see heroes converging on me and while this has been fun, it's kind of not anymore.
This time I avoid a bullet by dissolving into mist again. While the force of the shot spreads me around a little bit, it's easy to coalesce again and use [Shadowport] to move in the furthest shadow I see that is pretty much in the opposite direction of my apartment.
I hop through the shadows, further and further away from the shouts and the sirens. I take a sharp turn and zigzag even further, heading pretty much out of town. I don't know if anyone is in active pursuit of me but I think it's pretty much guaranteed. What I did was big.
Heh, yeah. And I definitely made the right choice in going villain, I can't imagine being stuck in a hero role. Just waiting for the other side to do something exciting, never on my timetable, always reacting rather than acting. That would suck.
Not to mention all those Skills I wouldn't have. The Skills that just kicked hero butt in such a decisive fashion. I mean my Mana took a big hit but I got so much to spare that it just feels well-used, and my HP is barely touched. I already regenerated what Best Jeanist took and my Barrier took care of the rest. And my DEX and agility-related Skills, those were a wise investment.
Ok, I think it's safe to drop the villain persona and return to being a plain vanilla civilian. Not myself, not yet, just a random civilian.
Yeah, just a random civilian going to the supermarket. I'm feeling peckish.
Maybe something sweet?
Quest Completed!
La Débutante
Dracula who?
Award: 500 000 exp, 500 credits, Item [ Companion Gem ] , unlocked Class [Dark Lord]
Something sweet indeed!
Companion gem, that is like the most awesome reward ever. My very own henchman! Or woman. Or thing/person? Thank you, System, thank you, thank you!
Every hero needs a side-kick, every villain a henchman. And you just became a true villain
Congrats, I guess
I grin 'Thank you, System. You're the best.'
OK, so summoning a helper will be done in a dungeon or at home at some point. Will have to think it through. Logistically I mean. Will they be like Fate servants that can walk around in spirit form or is the summons to stay. If so, where should they live. What if they look or behave so differently that walking around with them will look suspicious? Stuff like that.
Now the second reward, a new Class. That is kinda cool but I don't really know how to check that out. I'll probably fiddle with that at home but right now clicking on it doesn't work and System is silent on the matter. Ah well, it's not like I can switch mid-leveling anyway.
Wait. Speaking of leveling…
'Hey, System, how much exp I got from killing all those heroes?'
You can do the math, it ' s not hard
'Pretty please'
50 000 for each sidekick, 150 000 for the U.A. teachers and 300 000 for Best Jeanist
'What about Mirko?'
She isn ' t dead and you specifically asked about the deaths
'Could you please then tell me how much I get from defeating Mirko?' I ask nicely.
100 000
'Wha? She was way more work than Ectoplasm and he got 150!'
I don 't make the rules
'You don't? And hey, without knowing that I couldn't've made the math, so ha'
Don 't make me give you the [Smartass] Flaw
'Don't be so touchy, we were having a nice conversation'
I am enjoying it
'No doubt' I smirk, a tad too relieved for my liking, 'You are a smartass too! But I guess that is why we go along.'
I am delightful
I chuckle 'That you are.'
Looking at my phone I hum, time to get home I guess. Can't wait to see the evening news, I'm sure to be the top story on tonight.
X
The tv is turned on as soon as I enter my apartment, I want to hear what the media are saying about me. Right now it looks like they have up a live stream of the site of the massacre but the Best Jeaninst thing hasn't been reported yet. All they know is that there are multiple casualties and that Mirko has been carried off in an ambulance.
Can't wait for them to know about Ectoplasm, Eraser Head and, most of all, Best Jeanist. And the tally of the side-kicks. Hey, if I commit to being a villain, I'm gonna be an awesomely dangerous one. And I want the entire nation to know it.
Huh, maybe I should call Hisa, being the good friend that heard about what happened at her place of work.
Speaking of friend… I eye that Companion Gem in my Inventory. No, not yet. I'm sure I'll be getting that A-rank the world quest asked of me – it wasn't something that I set out to do but whatever, right? It's already done and I'm not regretting it either. I will summon my helper in the new world.
With a frown I tap my chin in thought, if I'll be jumping out soon then there are some loose ends I might wanna wrap up.
Hmm. "Hey, System?"
Yes?
"That world jump thing is instantaneous or I can store it and use it later?"
It has to be activated so you can store it. Even stack them. But once you fulfill the world quest and not use it right away, you have to choose another world quest
"Even if I never come back to that universe?"
You might change your mind later. You choose the next quest for the current world
"But it doesn't interfere with any new world quest I get for another world?"
No. But it does stay in your active quest tab
"How untidy"
Humph
"Sorry, sorry, I didn't mean to fault you"
Humph
"No, really, I…"
My phone started ringing. Wait, it hasn't.
Your other phone, dumbass
"Tomura" I sneer, "I'm guessing he's not calling to tell me how his own plan worked, huh?"
Would not bet on it
I sigh and accept the call "This is the blood drive, how may I help you?"
The murder of Best Jeanist was a game-changer, the whole society was in uproar. Shocked. Aghast. Stunned. The fiber hero was top three in Japan. Top three. One of the best. And I snuffed him along with several other heroes, both known and unknown. And managed to escape.
And hear this, there is speculation flying around about me being an S-ranked threat. S! But that is civilians and reporters, I doubt the pro-heroes will class me that high, even with Best Jeanist. But that A-rank is mine, I'm sure.
I still have some time before it is officially declared. And that brings to mind that phone call I received from Tomura. Pretentious little bastard. He called me to talk about my attack, part-congratulating, part-threatening. He definitely did not expect me killing top heroes. I mean I get it, he thought he got a minor villain on a leash and I go and show him he was so very wrong. Now he struggles to control me again. I think I'll have to show him the error of his ways.
You know what, I'm in the mood for a drink. And I know just the villain bar for it.
If what I think is true, and my time in this particular universe is limited, there is one thing I really want to get. Like hell I'm letting the ability to fast travel slip out my grasp.
Normally I would not plan on coming into the hideout of one of the main antagonist of the series, but my recent massacre proved that I can take on serious threats and come out on top. I credit mostly the Mind Mage and Engineer. And Tomura does not scare me. I know of his quirk and I'm pretty sure that worse coming to worst, either my [Barrier] or [Aversion Field] can hold off his hands until I flee. I have no need for him but better the devil you know. Just in case I do indeed return to this world.
Those are the Skills that I apply to myself, along with some further awareness and defense, as I enter the bar in my guise of Maledicta, albeit one with sunglasses and cap. I know, cliché, but it's not like I'll be wearing those, or the face, for all that long.
"Well, well, well. Welcome back" Kurogiri welcomes me from behind the counter, "I'm afraid boss is busy right now but if you stay for a bloody mary, I'll tell him you're here."
"There's no need, I won't be staying long" I hum as my radar pings someone in the basement of the place but no one else. It's a bit surprising but good for me I guess. There are cameras here so at the last second I decide to get rid of them. Why not, might piss Tomura off more and hide a bit of my Skill. Maybe.
"Wh-" Kurogiri manages to say as static assaults his small screen behind the bar.
I cast my [Mind Thief] right then, not wanting him to teleport away. The Stat check passes easily enough.
[Mind Thief]'s level has increased by one!
New Skill Acquired!
Teleport (Active)[Level 5] – Instant transport to designated coordinates, allows for passengers - 9.750 MP/use
And now he can't. I grin as he falls down, dissolving into smoke as he went. Huh? What a peculiar mutation, would've probably been interesting to study it. How was he even born, being only smoke? Or did it manifest later in life?
I turn on my heel and leave the bar, all in all taking a little over a minute. There is no need to attract any trouble by lingering.
A bit surprising that I'm not caught by anyone, I half-expected Murphy to rear his ugly head and send All for One after me or something, but nope. I [Shadowport] away without any trouble. And again. And then I decide to use my brand new Skill.
Which works maaaarvellously. Just where I wanted to go. Oh yeah, this is going to become a favorite. But wait… Oh my, how come it's level 5 already? That must mean…
I scroll up my Skill list until I find the [Mind Thief] which is now freshly level 10. Brilliant, looks like I get an upgrade. System did tell me by improving the Skill I can improve the effects even here. Lovely! Now I only need to do that with [Stat Steal] too.
Might get to that while I'm still here. I got my teleport, thank Game, which was my main item on the wishlist. Buut a few more Stats wouldn't hurt. And I need to finish my Summoner Class, and maybe get a head start in another. And I need to stock up more on electronics. Who knows what the next universe will be, but I got plans for whatever it is. Bokuhero was just training camp. If the selection proves to be good, I'm going to realize some of those conquering ambitions. I feel sufficiently powered to play for real.
But before that, let's do some more evasive maneuvers. One can never be too sure with powerhouses like All for One.
Oh boy, I'm getting excited again.
I wonder if Kaori is free right now.
Nah, criminal spree first, sex later.
Hisa must be surprised at my newfound religious following of the local news. She herself stopped caring for it, not wanting to be reminded of what happened at her place of work. Which was closed down, police and heroes still there for some reason. But at least she is still employed and paid, and even offered complimentary counseling. On offer she gratefully took up on.
The massacre is still on everyone's lips, so much so that my little spree following that was mentioned less than it deserved. My threat ranking was still undisclosed, which is the thing I'm waiting on to hear, but there is all sorts of talks about me now. And my followers and fans. Which of course I hadn't known about until they reported it. Apparently I have a cult following and those little bastards attack and cause mayhem in my name.
I'd be a bit offended about them claiming it without my knowledge or approval, but they are keeping the authorities distracted and busy. And the opposite of authorities too – Tomura must be incensed about the murder of his so very useful lieutenant. I wouldn't know since I'm ignoring the phone he gave me and asked the System to stop notifying me of it. I still kept it though. Just in case.
Oh boy, the unlimited Inventory is going to turn me into a hoarder.
Anyway, apart from the Twilight parade, Ryukyu is on air all the time. She practically commandeered the Taskforce which is now hunting down any and all pretenders in the hopes of finding me. Her polls fell quite a lot despite her not being on site and me besting even Best Jeanist, but she is slowly rebuilding the public's trust in her.
If I wasn't waiting to be tapped out, I might've done something about that, mess with the heroes some more. But I'm ready to move on. Heck, I even packed already. The System assures me that the world I'm not in is 'paused', but I have no intention of returning here anytime soon. Still, just in case, I jot down some notes about Maledicta and this world in general – things I might find useful should I change my mind somewhere along the line. Doubt it though.
I was quite busy while on this little 'waiting period' but there is one thing that keeeps nagging me – I really wanted to prepare for my next world, I have time for it, but I have no idea what the choices will be. I don't even know if the choices I had previously are staying or if I get another random grouping. If it's even random.
"System?"
I'm not telling you
"Please!"
You already asked me several times and the answer is still the same. Why do you bother?
"Hoping fluttering my eyelashes will help?"
It doesn 't
"Oh, come on. What's the harm. It's not like I won't be leaving soon, right?"
Which means you won't need to wait long for your answer
"Any idea what's taking the heroes so long? I mean, how hard it is to slap an A on me and call it a day?" I sigh. If I can't use the time for preparation, I might just as well leave. Everything I do now is just extra. But at least I got my Class close enough to level 50 – since time is running out here, I thought it would be wise to first see my new universe before choosing another.
Ask Kaori
"As you well know, she's in the dark too"
Sucks to be you
"It's been a week! A week since I killed Japan's number three!"
How fun. They are choosing between S and A and both will qualify for the quest
"Thanks for answering that at least" I allow a small smile, "Any idea who's pushing for what?"
Ryukyu likes S-Rank
"Of course she does, it will look better for her and her Agency. And the Top Ten in general"
Endeavor disagrees
"Dick"
Just go steal something, that always makes you feel better
"I already took all that came to mind, I'm not going to rob a convenience store for petty cash. And I already leveled [Stat Thief] to give me two points instead of one. No need to bring unnecessary attention to myself. Besides, I have a feeling that I'll be jumping today"
Suit yourself
An idea struck me – I could have a little sneak peek after all. System said the Shop for Credits is open to me at any time. I saw the option in my Status tabs. I could do a little perusing. I didn't before since I didn't have enough credits but completing quests in this universe has brought me some. Nothing amazing but I can convert money for Credits. Not all of them right now, that will wait after exiting the universe. But I can window shop. I hadn't really explored what cool things lie in the Shop since, well, couldn't afford it. But I can look and maybe aim for something.
"Shop"
My [Sin of Greed] flares so hard at the neat, and more importantly long, list of possibilities. All this I can have if only I have Credits. Right now I have 12.809 – that is the sum of what I had left over from HotD and what I gained through quests over here. I can also freely count on that 50 000 that I will receive upon finishing the world quest. Not that I would buy something without jumping universes first. I want to see first how much will be needed for the world modifiers.
First things first though, money to Credits conversion. This time I knew about it so I have focused on getting regular money in BokuHero. Most of it was from my engineering commissions on the black market but a lot was also from me selling some of the stuff I took from HotD. I still have a lot of materials and weapons in my Inventory, not to mention actual gold bars, but I sold all the motorcycles I had there except two, many of the weapons, some jewelry and plenty of random stuff. I fetched me quite the sum. Now let's see just how many credits that translates to.
83.693 Credits. Which means in total I have 96.502 Credits. Not a bad haul for being in this universe a relatively short time. And it's not like I mind being broke here, not planning to return once I jump.
So, let's see what goodies can be found in the shop.
Once again I have to admire the neatness, everything is sorted into tabs that are easy to comprehend. And so many! I could buy Skill Books, Items, Perks, Crafting materials, unlock Classes, Customizations to my character, Lore Books on various universes, and the most interesting of all, Game customizations.
That last tag also has [Flashback Jumper] I was looking at in-between universes but it's also a Perk, but there was so much more. For example the ability to hold two Titles at the same time. The same with Classes. Which is really handy. There is also [World Jumper] which would allow me to travel freely between universes – that one was almost impossible to achieve though. So many zeroes. There is the ability to choose form more than 5 universes during a jump. There is the option to choose the next world at will. There is the possibility to render Equipment invisible – you could wear lime green wizarding robes with awesome stats around in any modern world and nobody would think you weird. Heck, there is even an option to turn on the soundtrack or subtitles. There is a lot of stuff but it is either way out of my price range or it just isn't temping enough.
Perusing all the possible Classes is quite fun actually. I take it as a preview of things to come. The variety is staggering, I honestly hadn't expected so many of them. Though it is clear that some of them are tied to a specific universe. Still, it is very good news – Classes is how I get most of my Stats. Good to see I won't run out anytime soon.
Customization to my character are really straightforward – I could buy a re-spec (though only SP counted, not the Stats I gained though classes or via exercise), I could change my appearance or even 'add' things. Like gills. Or wings. Here I could also buy a [Race Change]. With some humor I note that the vampire is quite expensive. I like getting things for free.
Skipping over crafting materials, I hum, undecided between the tabs that are realistic for me. I definitely recall some cheaper Skills and Perks. Even Items but I haven't spent all that much time in the Shop before – I almost burst into tears when I saw just how much Credits they wanted for Excalibur.
Items it is then. This tab is well and truly filled, I'm loving it. And I particularly adore that it has tabs as well, even if it's mostly divided into weapons, armor and misc. Aaaah, Misc is further divided as well. Gods, I really love how organized everything is.
+1 CHA
This never gets old
I grin in response but I am far too engrossed in the shopping list to reply further.
Upon perusing one thing really strikes me as amusing – stuff like the Sharingan and Byakugan are classed as Items. But then again, I got the Hashirama Cells as an item too and upon using it transformed into a Perk. Still, seeing the various eyes floating in a jar in my little window preview is funny. And they are loads of them, not just form Naruto but also Tsukihime, HunterXHunter or others I do not recognize. There is also Lelouch's eye form Code Geass, that one got my panties wet. Reeeeeeeally expensive though. But I wrote than one down, something to aim for in the future?
The Misc tab also holds various objects for summoning, not just the 'Soul Sample' I use but also things that are clearly meant to summon a servant like in the Fate series. The prices there are exorbitant but then again, they probably summon one specific hero. The more vague it is, the cheaper it gets. Like 'assassin companion gem' is cheaper than 'Jack the Ripper's knife', and the completely random 'companion gem' is the cheapest. Well, I say cheapest but boy am I glad to have gotten one as a quest reward. Also, the same mechanic works with familiars, you can get a random egg or order up a phoenix, all depending on the price.
Gacha is here in Misc too. Being completely random, that one is relatively cheap. Even I can afford it. You can also buy them in bulk which is handy I suppose. I might actually invest in those sometime soon – my Luck is good, got even the Perk for gacha spins, and I could get legendary items for a lesser price. Then again, I could get rubbish, but I think it should pay off. I put the gacha bundle on my list.
One other thing gets put on my list as well – [World Jump]. You can just buy it in the Shop. And it isn't that costly either. It would be good to have some more room to maneuver. But this probably works best with that Perk [Flashback Jumper]. That one is on my list as well, it just gets moved up a little.
Going back to the menu, I select Skill Books next. I can practically hear System laughing at me when I find the Amaterasu fire right at the top. Yeah, yeah, I never did figure that out but [Fool's Fire] works well enough. If I want that then I guess I have to either buy it or travel to Naruto and get it there somehow. Whatever.
There are plenty of Skills, some I'm pretty sure I can replicate on my own should I try, it's the 'proprietary' ones, like Amaterasu, that interest me the most. Just looking though, I have a lot of Skills already and I'll be making more. Don't really see anything that special I'd have to buy it.
Perks prove more interesting than the Skill Books. Their quantity doesn't surprise me anymore, though the quality does. Some really powerful stuff here, like double your HP for example! But there is one in particular that caught my eye – [Ageless]. I don't know what I thought but I assumed with my gamer's body I have some kind of immortality. No, I know I can be killed, agelessness, yeah, the Perk got it right. Never thought about aging. Funnily enough, there is another Perk right beneath it that says [Aging]. So I guess you can switch back and forth.
Wait, on which end of that am I then? I mean, in games you don't age unless there is some mandated timeskip that is part of the story and when I read the description of Gamer's B…
News, news, news!
"Wha?" I frown when System overlaps my screen.
Focus on the tv. Moron.
I raise my eyebrow at that but shrug. Closing the interface I focus my attention to the news report.
"…issued a statement regarding the Vampire Killer of Musutafu, now officially declared to be an A-rank threat. Pro-Heroes from about the country are…"
I stop listening and I let my smile widen "Well, System?"
[World Quest Completed!]
Top-notch!
You have become a known A-ranked Villain
Award: [ World Jump ] , 50 000 credits, [Dungeon: Heroes]
I look at the last reward, the one that had been hidden under the question mark, with a bit of a disappointment. Ah well, a new dungeon is good I guess. The Moonlit Forest is boring for me now and this should hopefully give more exp.
Jump?
"Jump" I nod resolutely.
Jumping into Hub in three… two… one…
Aaah, the white room. Hello friend.
Achievement Unlocked!
Quirky: You have cleared the BokuHero world; Achievement Reward: Perk [Plus Ultra!]
Plus Ultra: +5% to Stat growth
I like it. Not a big bonus but always a welcome one. Stats are hard! Getting them the old-fashioned way by exercise takes unbearably long now, not to mention the effort involved. If it wasn't for the Stats a Class gives, I would be pretty much stuck. Or well, stuck at 300 which I guess is ok for some people.
Anyway… "System what have got for me?"
Please select your next World
[Fullmetal Alchemist] [ DC universe ] [ Shadowhunters ] [Sekirei] [ Dragon Age ]
Well, Fullmetal doesn't tempt me much at all. Skip!
I would love DC buuut I'm not nearly in Superman's league and that might be a problem. Plus I'm not all that clear on the specifics of the universe. The timeline, all the players. Besides, I just finished a world of superheroes. DC is in the running though. Supergirl… Wonderwoman… Poison Ivy… Yeah, it's in the running.
Shadowhunters? No, too many teenagers, angst and people getting tried for treason all the damn time! I watched that, didn't read the books though, and it was way too irritating for me. No. Just no.
Sekirei. I know that, ecchi with that loser main character, plenty of beautiful powerful women 'bonding' to their masters and fighting each other. That has potential I guess. But its modern Japan yet again, I kinda wanted a change…
Dragon Age! Gods, I love those games! Though it's kind of funny, a Gamer entering a game universe. Hmmm, I know the lore, and I did mention I wanted to conquer some place… this would be pretty much perfect for it. And it's definitely a change. There are also people stronger than me, like Flemeth or Fen'Harel?, but with my skills, and Skills, I should be up there.
Besides, I could reach Divinity in dragon Age, right? Not the true one of course, the Game is still above me, but like the elven gods tier. Yeah, that is a great goal to aim for.
Yeah, the choice is pretty easy this time – I'm going for Dragon Age! Thedas won't know what hit it!
That was fast
"There was a clear winner this time" I shrug.
You sure then?
"Dragon Age" I nod resolutely, "I'm sure."
Notes:
AN: Yes, I know some of you will be disappointed we're leaving BokuHero so soon but this was always meant to be a training world, as stated the last chapter (or the one before that?). Anyway, we might return some time later but I might have to read the manga to get a more accurate idea of the world.
Dragon Age though? I know DA and I love it to pieces. We will be staying longer and do a little conquering and god-hunting.
Until next time!
