Chapter 57 Evacuation

Tommy started dropping the mines when two more ships jumped near the star of Vengeance.

-Captain we are being hailed.

-On Screen.

When the screen went on Tommy saw two of his friends Earth dragon and Boom Dragon.

-So you brat you finally have your own ship.

The earth dragon said with a smile on her face.

-What's the plan, smart ass?

The Boom dragon asked, smiling at him.

Tommy also smiled.

-Since you idiots came here then i assume that you have a full load of your favorite toys.

Both of them loved to use explosives and they were the only ones in the team that had mines onboard their ships.

-We didn't come here just to chat with you.

the Earth dragon said.

Then I'm sending you codes for my mines and let's start turning this place into hell for the bugs.

It took them five minutes to plan the layout of the minefield and another hour to drop every mine they had.

After returning to the orbit Tommy found his shuttles waiting for him in the company of another three shuttles from the Dragon star team.

They unloaded their passengers and went back down.

All of the other ships were taking on the evacuating people except for the noble cruisers and the emperor's dreadnought.

They already left the system.

Star of Vengeance took on over two hundred people and as much equipment as they could from the hospital and food stores.

Four hours went by quickly but it was enough time to evacuate everyone.

Just as the last shuttle from the planet landed in the hangar bay the wormhole stabilized and a moment later the first mines went off.

-Can we tell what we destroyed?

Tommy Asked Anne.

-I'm working on it .

She answered without even lifting her head from her monitor.

There were more and more explosions on the minefield and then one big explosion.

-That was a battleship class vessel.

Anne Reported.

-So far the mines destroyed around 70 ships and the count is still rising.

She continued her rapport.

-Open a channel to the Black dragon.

Tommy said.

-Daniel how much longer?our mines are almost depleted.

-Ten more minutes we are waiting for the last transport from the planet and then we get out of here.

I also received a report that the capital world got invaded the same way five hours ago,the defense fleet got wiped out in less than one hour.

Apparently the armada on the border was a distraction and we fell for it.

-You can complain about it later, for now let's get a move on.

-Captain the mines are depleted and the enemy ships are getting through.

Simon reported.

We managed to destroy 112 ships with the battleship as the biggest kill and 14 cruisers.

-For three ships worth of mines i'd say that we did incredibly well.

Tommy said.

-And Jess is one hell of a weapons designer, i think that i created a monster allowing her to design everything for us.

Everyone laughed at his statement.

-We have incoming enemy forces and lots of them.

Anne said and the laughter stopped.

-Arm weapons shields to full.

Tommy ordered.

-As soon as they are in the weapons range let them have it.

That was the order Simon was waiting for.

He immediately got everything ready and started selecting targets with a battleship that was coming on the top of his list.

The human ships had a lot more range then the bug ones when it came to weapons and Star of vengeance had more range than anything in its class.

The moment the bug fleet entered the long range weapons range Simon let loose with the MAC's and his reward was one destroyer obliterated and moderate damage on the battleship.

After five salvos from thas MAC's the enemy entered the full weapons range and the ex-soldier really let loose on the weapons.

MAC's energy weapons missiles and torpedoes filled the space and every other ship was doing the same.

They went all out and the bugs were dying in droves but there was a problem with their numbers for every bug ship destroyed there were five more to take its place.

-We are ready ,everyone retreat and jump as soon as possible.

Daniels' voice came from the communications terminal.

All the ships retreated while fighting and as soon as they could they jumped.

The Star of Vengeance was one of the last ones to jump out and thanks to that they managed to tally the losses for both sides.

Bugs lost more than a thousand ships in this engagement and they would probably lose some more to the automatic defense systems around the planet.

Unfortunately this was just a drop in the ocean for their forces.

The mercenary fleet lost only one shuttle and had some damaged ships but other than that it was untouched.

The star itself didn't even change the shields so all in all they had no damage but they used almost 25% of the ammunition and all the mines.

Garry was already working on replenishing the stocks but he informed Tommy that they needed more materials if they wanted to fight more than three more battles like that one.

Hearing that Tommy consulted with Jakob and Monic after a few minutes they informed him that there was a large amount of materials available but he wouldn't like their source.

The Themeris system was on their way to the coalition space and they could restock the materials there.

When they arrived at the rendezvous point he opened communications with Daniel and they discussed the problem of materials they needed.

The mercenary fleet also had that problem especially with the damaged ships and they had to leave most of their materials back on their planet.

After talking with the rest of the team it was decided that they would go to themeris to restock on materials and free the exiles from the red section if it so happened that they were still there.
