Chapter 98.3 : No Effect??

The lair of the Oración Seis.

"Mr. Brain."

The hunchbacked old man spotted Brain and his companions returning and greeted them.

Brain surveyed the area—no signs of conflict. He frowned and queried, "Did your plan fail?"

"The first attempt, indeed, did fail," the hunchbacked old man conceded.

"The second plan," Brain prompted.

"It cannot fail!" the hunchbacked old man declared firmly. "When Nirvana is unsealed, it possesses the ability to invert light and darkness. Those with weaker minds will undergo direct personality changes!"

"And we have the means to focus this power!"

"Once Nirvana is unleashed, our equipment will act like a magnifying glass, concentrating all the forbidden magic onto Everit!"

"Hence, even if his mind is resilient, his personality is bound to alter!"

"Hehehehe—" the hunchbacked old man chuckled sinisterly and smugly. "Such a favored child of fate, yet too upright, too cautious, and too modest."

"If our organization can obtain him and his magic—"

"Hehehehe."

"I trust this individual truly holds the value you claim," Brain remarked.

"This is the Sky Dragon Slayer, correct?" the hunchbacked old man scrutinized Wendy, who was held by Brain.

"That's right," Brain confirmed. "She can heal us."

"Our technology can also heal you," the hunchbacked old man suggested. "Why bother with this?"

"No," Brain retorted icily.

Allow these malevolent individuals to heal him?

He feared that after the treatment, he would no longer be himself.

"But wouldn't you wish to witness it firsthand?" the hunchbacked old man prodded. "The moment the miracle occurs."

"Are you prepared?" Brain inquired in astonishment.

"Indeed, we make quite the effective team. However, as the coordinator of our efforts, you should be the one to release the seal." The elderly man with a hunched back handed over a remote control.

*Bzzt*

A screen lit up before them.

It displayed Natsu and the others.

In the image, Ichiya and Jura, now recovered from their injuries, were already hurrying to join them.

"Where's Everit?" Brain asked.

"This is a magnetic field radar." The elderly man pointed to a device, showing a red dot on its screen.

"They surely didn't anticipate us setting an ambush where we battled them." The elderly man boasted, "That's the charm of magnetic field magic."

Brain recalled the handful of stones he had previously thrown—magic items used to relay magnetic field information.

On the screen,

The red dot steadily approached.

Then it intersected with a cluster of green dots.

"Press it, Mr. Brain." The elderly man smiled, "Let his comrades witness his resurrection."

"Alright."

Brain pressed the remote control.

*Boom*

The sky trembled as a fearsome magical force erupted!

However,

Several enormous magic circles appeared in the sky.

They redirected this magical force in a specific direction!

At the rendezvous point,

Everyone was stunned by the terrifying surge of magic in the distance.

"How could it happen so quickly?!" Ichiya exclaimed in disbelief.

"Oh no, Nirvana has been activated!" Jura was equally astounded.

"What happens if Nirvana is activated?" Lucy asked, horrified.

"What's that?!" Suddenly, everyone noticed that Nirvana's magical energy had been redirected by the huge magic circle that had appeared, transforming into a massive beam of light mixed with white and black, hurtling straight toward them!

"Get out of the way!!!" Erza shouted.

"Everit !" Tiffany called out as she suddenly appeared in what seemed like an empty space.

Of course, it wasn't truly empty.

Everit was there!

"Idiot!" Everit exclaimed anxiously as Tiffany blocked his path.

With her magical prowess, a direct hit could be fatal for her, though Everit had a trump card to survive.

"Red Thread Lock!" Tiffany clawed her wrist, transforming blood into a mass of red threads.

She controlled them, weaving a ball to defend against the attack.

But it was too late!

Just as she finished,

'Pah!'

Everit kicked Tiffany aside, unable to cast a defensive spell in time.

'Boom!'

He took the magic head-on!

"Miko!" Everit cried out.

"Don't worry, Everit. This magic isn't harmful," a gentle, regal voice reassured him.

'Zizi...'

The beam of light faded, and everyone looked in shock.

They realized Everit had been struck by it!

But he appeared unharmed, standing dazedly, worrying them deeply.

"Everit!" Erza crawled over, afraid even to touch him lightly lest he vanish.

"Are you okay?" she asked, voice trembling.

Silent, Everit offered no reply.

"He'll be fine, unscathed," assured a bird flying overhead—a magical creature resembling a microphone with wings.

It landed before them all.

The proud voice of the hunchbacked old man rang out.

"We meet again, Mr. Everit. Last time, you cut me down before I could even reveal my name. But now, and in the future, I have all the time in the world to tell you my name."

"Who are you?!" Everyone eyed him warily.

Natsu demanded angrily, "What have you done to Everit?!"

"Just a little nudge," the hunchbacked old man replied. "Nirvana can invert darkness and light at the moment its seal is broken, turning those once righteous into darkness and those once evil into righteousness."

"So..."

Listening to their enemy's proud proclamation, everyone gazed at Everit in disbelief.

"Could it be..." Lucy whispered, too horrified to voice the conclusion.

"That's right," the hunchbacked old man declared proudly. "He has fully succumbed to the forbidden magic of Nirvana. Everit, the formal wizard of the Official Guild, your comrade will now join the darkness and stand with me in the future!"

"Everit!" Tiffany grabbed Everit's wrist anxiously. "You fool! Your troublesome nature won't change so easily! If you dare betray us, I'll report you to Miss Mirajane. We'll hunt you down to the ends of the earth!"

*Snap.*

Everit violently shook off Tiffany's hand.

Finally, he reacted.

"Haha..."

"Hahahaha..."

He burst into laughter, snatched his glasses, and crushed them!

Then, he ran his hand through his hair.

Lifting his head, a confident, arrogant smile spread across his face.

It wasn't the familiar Everit smile everyone knew!

Witnessing his arrogant demeanor, everyone's hearts sank.

"Darkness?"

Everit appeared instantly before the microphone bird and crushed it underfoot!

"Are you mocking me?" Everit spoke arrogantly.

"???" Everyone was bewildered.

"How could I, a staunch believer in light, join the darkness?"

"I, Everit de La Valliere!"

"I am the light's protector!"

"I am a man who aspires to be a hero!"

Everit's expression was filled with integrity, justice, and a hint of heroism!

"???" Everyone stood dumbfounded.

Is this Everit's cheerful demeanor?!!

"Hahaha——" Everit laughed. "My comrades, there's no need to worry!"

"They're just six small fry demons; I'll take care of them all!"

"How dare they snatch away someone as adorable as Wendy!"

"They're nothing but monsters!"

"The longer the night, the more troubles there are. I'll defeat them and save Wendy!"

"I'm going!"

*Boom*

Everit stomped his foot and shot off the cliff with explosive force, akin to a rocket taking flight.

He then tossed out two cards, affixed them to his back, gripped Tier once more, and engaged the Wind Jet propulsion.

*Whoosh——* Three gusts of wind, tripling his speed!

He sliced through the sky like a fighter jet, exhilarated.

"Hahaha——"

"This feels amazing!"

I used to be such a fool!

Not fully harnessing this formidable body!

Laziness truly hinders progress!

"Hahaha——"

As his wild laughter faded into the distance, gradually growing fainter and vanishing.

. . . Silence fell upon everyone.

"Everit," Lucy's voice quivered. "In reality, before all this. It was a dark personality."
