My head was still moving at a million miles a minute but after a much needed nap and some food, I felt a little better. My aunt had tried to call me at least a dozen times but I wanted nothing to do with her. I was tired of all her lies. I knew she felt bad but it was too little too late for me.
“You’ve been weird since you came back from visiting your aunt.”
I caught Candice’s face in the mirror. She had a scowl etched on her face and she looked a little…apprehensive.
“What do you mean?” I busied myself with trying to get ready for the morning. “I’m fine, just a little jet lagged.”
“Mhmm." She wasn’t convinced, “I’m going to head out for some breakfast. Do you want to join me?”
“I need to head to the library. I have some work stuff that I need to catch up on.”
“The second round of the competition isn’t here yet. What research do you need to do?”
I wanted to tell her. But how did I even begin the conversation?
