The car fell into a sudden silence.

Emily waited for Mr. Satan's answer, but this time he was unusually quiet.

He still wore his silver mask, and Emily couldn’t see his expression.

Was his silence an admission, pain, or anger?

She hoped he would refute her assumption, proving her suspicion wrong.

But he didn’t.

Mr. Satan lowered his eyes, tapping his fingers on the steering wheel. "What did Emma tell you? Besides your mother's situation."

"Something I already knew," Emily sniffled. "Mr. Satan, I want to ask you a question, and I want the truth."

"In two days," Mr. Satan said, "in two days..."

"In two days, the court will finalize the bankruptcy liquidation of the Reed family. Nathan and Carol will be left with nothing," Emily said. "So your initial target was always the Reed family, right?"

Mr. Satan remained silent.
