"You must feel it too," the empress's voice suddenly cuts in between her thoughts, Rain raised her head instinctively. "You must feel that the duke is using you as an insignificant piece in his twisted game, don't feel too special that he is choosing you right now, that's exactly why he wants you to marry Aryan, you have to stop the wedding with everything you have, if not, you will regret it for the rest of your life."

"I am trying," she muttered, her voice trembling as tears blurred her vision. She quickly wiped them away before they could fall. "Why can't you do something about it? You're the queen. Everyone just blames me without offering any solutions."

The empress sighed, her gaze shifting to the far window, avoiding Rain's eyes. "I'm afraid there is nothing I can do. My son is already in love with you," she said softly. "As you must know, Aryan isn't the emperor's son. Just a few weeks ago, he was diagnosed with some kind of madness."
