Chapter 42- chase to kill

Mechelle's POV

When I hadn't heard any sounds from outside for a long time, my anxious heart finally eased. Under the eaves, I bowed my head, recalling Lucas's warning—no one from the Duncan family was to be trusted.

The key to Alexander Duncan's Porsche still sat in my hand, and having the car would make it much easier to leave whenever I pleased.

After breakfast, I greeted the nanny and prepared to leave. But as I reached the door, I came face to face with the cold expression of Louis Duncan. His brow barely furrowed, almost imperceptibly, and I instinctively wanted to skirt around him. There was a certain distance that felt just right, not too close, not too far. I could smile at him, but he couldn't return the favor.

Louis Duncan gripped my wrist tightly, leaving me frozen and unresisting. After all, hadn't I provoked him first? I had sought refuge in this cold place, and I had been fortunate enough to find it. But now, I no longer needed it.
